This current team is not good enough to be top 6. Another mid season beckons unless something drastically changes like someone who can regularly put the ball in the net and score more than once in a game. Plus someone decent who can create them.
We haven't played a team in the top 12 yet either. I have seen every game (except Cambridge) and have seen nothing so far that will change that view.

We're not good enough for the top six... But we're in the top six?
We haven't played a team in the top 12 yet either, actually you could argue we have, if Bolton had beaten us, they'd be in 11th etc. - That statement is also akin to "If we win, its because the opposition were shit, rather than because we were good", the League table is going to ebb and flow over the course of the season, its not exactly our fault we've not played someone currently in the top 12 either.
If you want to get real, then you can only beat what's in front of you, and we've done that apart from three games.
None of that is optimism either, its just facts.
You can also add that this is a new squad playing a new system, I don't much like the system but it's only failed once so far and that was at Reading, Blackpool for me had more to do with some incoherent team changes. I'm not a fan of the football so far but to give a similarity, Derby were, for me, one of the most negative sides in the division last season, get a goal and don't push on just defend, even their supporters moaned about the negativity, Bolton, on the other hand were a joy to watch, free flowing and free scoring, Derby got promoted, Bolton didn't.
The football is ugly but no one cares if you are winning but if results go south and the football is still as ugly then it could get interesting to see how the crowd reacts
We should all just be really negative. That'll help the situation.
I'm all for people having their say, but this is a new side with a lot of work still to be done that is currently inside the top 6.
Is it pretty, no. Has it been effective to date. mostly. Will it get better as the season goes on. I think it will yes.
People calling for a change of management have short memories. Some of this is embarrassing
No one has called for a change in management. Chinese whispers on the Jones thread makes it look like that
If I've misunderstood a few posts then I'll stand corrected. But I'm sure I read a few people saying effectively they would give Jones the benefit of the doubt, but if we lose this weekend they'll be firmly in the Jones out camp.

Were you there on Saturday? The atmosphere at half time was pretty toxic.

It wasn't toxic. People were pissed at a poor half of football, but it was nowhere near toxic

Indeed i was South Bank. It was not toxic
Toxic was when Appleton walked out the tunnel before kick off in his last game in charge
We finished 18th last season and whilst we ideally would like automatics, we would be happy with a play off place, but even a 10 to 7 position would be a progress after years of mismanagement and chaos. Unless we have brummie like buckets of money to throw about we can only hope to build a squad to get promotion through multiple transfer windows. It may take just the one gone by or the January window or it may take the next two or three.
To not be top 6 this season would be disappointing but it's not disaster, if we are not next season then it's disaster and we can justifiably moan!
Before the season started (at that time we had 7 signings through the door) I thought we would likely end up in the top half of the table but be outside of the play offs at the end of the season. We have had a reasonable start results wise, but based on the performances to date I wouldn't feel confident in changing my view.

And that's ok provided we kick on the following year.

Because this early on in the season, losing a game to us immediately dropped you into the lower half of the table, pretty much. There are teams in the bottom half of the table that will end up near the playoffs, and teams in the top half of the table now that end up flirting with relegation

Just joined this thread and it's histerical. Dozens of posters getting annoyed at people saying the want NJ sacked. Yet no has has said they want him sacked. Classic Charlton life.

Indeed Birmingham up next at home already lost to them once.. Let's prove me wrong and everyone else right and go for it then.
The problem the last couple of seasons was that we were conceding too many goals. Most people know that you have to build a team from the back. We seem to have the defence much tighter but it will take time to build the attacking element. To be slagging off everything due to one bad 45 minutes it’s frankly ridiculous!!

This is a great post. A lot of people forget where we were in the table and just how bad we were when Jones took over. A side heading for relegation who hadn't won for months and couldn't even beat Cray Valley at home!
He signed a long term contract with a clear aim at rebuilding the club. Since then he has had ONE transfer window, yet he's improved the defence massively and he has us currently up in the play off spots. What more exactly do people expect him to be doing at this point in the rebuild?
Obviously we all want promotion and at least the play offs, but if we are to finish 7-10th for example then as long as more dead wood is gone with good players coming in, then that is progress and we can build on that into next season.

I think things have been made worse here because of Cardiff sacking their manager, an easy story with Jones.

Regards your final paragraph, of course it would be progress but with a very low bar given the lowest in our history last season.
Jones would have signed the lengthy contract because of the financial benefits that go with it.
However, we need to stick with Jones and give him time, BUT things can change if Cardiff make an approach.

They certainly are over on the forum whose name shall not be mentioned. Not that that should surprise you.🫤

SACK NATHAN JONES
(I don't actually want him to go but at least this way someone has actually said it so we can all melt down properly.)
