  • Mitchell is such a poor option. Cannot pick a pass plus his passes generally backwards put us in a poorer position. Berry non existant ......again.... plus look at the differance of the crossing. We have not got a head on one charlton corner/freekick.
  • Interesting first half we had the better of the start , Shrewsbury got a grip of the middle , we come back into at the end ..

Again defensively we been very strong , our wingbacks are the problem not really got forward or created anything which is a problem in this system .. midfield worked hard but again getting outnumbered a little up front Ahadme had a very good game , Campbell not really in it .. needs to be replaced at   HT

But it’s 0-0 and we are very much in it .. they only really look dangerous from set plays .

Like watching a Rugby side, kick it long, run up and try and force an error in the oppos half to win possesion.

Small and Berry not having much impact on the game, we can press, not much else.

Our approach play, no idea what it is, for all the talk of wingbacks they rarely get on the ball for crosses, we've tried threading it through the middle to no real success and hoofing it for Ahadme to win it for... no one.

Dont really see how Jones wants us to play going forward.

What was our XG for that half?
    Minus 2.7
  • This is toilet
  • Campbell on for Berry at half time for me. Needs someone to get their foot on the ball and calm everyone else down.

Benning looking like a prime left footed Beckham with his deliveries helping Shrews keep the pressure on
  • As expected first 45 has been dire. Please get the ball down and try to play football rather than this lob it high and long style. As normal the front 2 working hard but absolutely no creativity. It’s going to be a bit boring this season waiting until 60 mins before we start playing
  • We are looking and playing very much like a mid table league 1 team. If this squad is meant to be good enough for promotion, they are deluded.
And Miles Leaburn alone won't change this dross.

Has TC been involved at all? I've been half listening and following online and haven't heard his name once.

Berry and him off for Godden and someone else please, maybe Anderson, maybe A.Campbell?
    Anderson not on the bench
  • We don’t look at the races today but still in it, how many times before would we be 2-0 down.

Smash and grab incoming and I’m all for it.

  • A first half that has followed a similar pattern so far this season. A lack of fluency, passing not good or incisive when we have the ball. Nathan Jones has to be careful now, 'we are not as fluid as we should be yet' will only last so long. Hopefully a better second half.

We can’t do anything from free kicks and corners, we can’t score when on top, and we can’t get a shot on target. All seem pretty basic and you’d think the manager and coaches would be able to sort it out.
What do they even do in training?
Should be the text on our club badge

Is it possible for xG to be measured in the negative?
  • I thought Berry would be a really strong option in this league. Hasn’t quite been the case.
  • We’re playing like we’re underdogs from a division or two below Shrewsbury, just about doing enough to stay in the game but another day they get a penalty or one of those long range efforts goes in (as we know from the last few games).

  • Half-time. That was much worse/flatter than the first-half at Reading so expect Nathan Jones will be fuming.

    HT stats

    Possession 57-43
    Shots 5-6
    On Target 1-1
    Inside Area 2-2
    xG 0.51-0.50
    Corners 4-3
  • This is toilet
Perfectly summed up in 3 words. No need to use more.
  • Pretty poor fair and on another day could have conceded a penalty, fortunately the player was looking for it and the ref had a good view. Booked two of ours when they did simular without punishment.
  • This football is bad and berry is shit so slow

  • We werent great at home against Rotherham, compared to Leyton Orient and Bolton - But away from home, we really do seem to concede possession / control of the game much more than what we do at the Valley

Wigan - Reading, now Shrewsbury have been lacklustre on the road.

We're almost going into these games with a "Dont lose first and foremost" mentality.
  • Strange why our midfield is so distant from our wing backs. Makes us so flat and one dimensional.

The quality of our play simply isn't acceptable.
We are being outplayed by Shrewsbury.
We have no patterns of play In and around their box.

Notice I've used the word "play" a lot.
Something this current side don't do.
  • Potts for Small is a possibility, as is Campbell for Berry or Godden.
  • Ahadme looking more and more like a total dud. Think he won two headers and there was one good chest down. Other than that he’s been completely in their centre half’s pocket. He doesn’t look like scoring but more importantly he doesn’t look strong enough to dominate centre backs and hold the ball up. That’s before you factor in his inconsistent (I’m trying to be kind) touch.

    Berry very anonymous too.

TC not been involved a ton, but at least you get the feeling that his pace might get him an opportunity at some point.

I’m still trying to figure out what Doc’s strengths are too. Good goal the other week but apart from that he hasn’t stood out at all.

Playing shit football is fine as long as you’re winning, but how long can you keep winning playing shit football?
  • Promising start then the same old turgid hoofball. Ahadme a bit busier and more productive than we’ve seen him but if this is a promotion side I’m Gunga Din. Being given the runaround by a Shrewsbury side who will do well to stay up. I said I wouldn’t draw conclusions till about ten games but I’ve seen enough in five and a half to conclude that I don’t much care for this Jonesball stuff!    Now come out and put egg on my face please lads.

Not Potts for Gillesphey? - Seems most likely, else we lose any chance of forward play down that left.
  • Well that was a real wake up call.

On that display there's not a hope in hell of a top 6 finish. In fact we will struggle to make the top half of the table as have no doubts we are being outplayed by a Shrewsbury team who really should be in front.

We can't keep the ball, it's just a series of hoffing the ball up front and hoping something happens. Which isn't going to happen with Ahadme and Campbell up front.

Jones has got his work cut out here.

With my negative outlook on life in general I went with bottom half finish when the poll was done on here before the beginning of the season. Couldn't see what others saw but it's still early days... we might end up even worse than that.
