MATCH THREAD : Shrewsbury Town V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 14th September 2024 KO 15:00

Hi everybody, and welcome to another match day...

We travel up to Shropshire for todays match with Shrewsbury Town who currently sit 21st in the table at The Croud Meadow, on paper a match we have every chance of grabbing all the points on offer, we've locked horns with Shrewsbury on 33 previous occasions winning 11, Shrewsbury winning  11, and the remaining 11 clashes ending all square, so match statistics have us paired pretty even, the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw at The Valley back in April when we last met.
Nathan Jones confirmed that Josh Edwards trained on Thursday, while Miles Leaburn, who recently returned to full team training, featured in last nights U21 1-1 draw with Leeds, completing the first half looking ok, will be great to welcome them both back just as soon as possible.

So, Come on lads, get yer finger out and don't return home empty handed today ..ok

Here we go...

Birthday boy Tyreece Campbell returns to the starting line-up for this afternoon’s clash, he clearly impressed in his cameo appearance off the bench in last week’s 1-1 draw at home to Rotherham United and replaces Matty Godden in Nathan Jones' XI.

Elsewhere, Daniel Kanu is back amongst the substitutes bench having returned from international duty with Sierra Leone.

We are expected to once again start in a 3-5-2 formation with Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey starting in a back three in front of goalkeeper Will Mannion.

Kayne Ramsay and Thierry Small are expected to start as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, captain Greg Docherty and Luke Berry lining up in midfield.

Campbell joins Gassan Ahadme up front.

Godden and Kanu are joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Dan Potts, Tennai Watson, Allan Campbell and Chuks Aneke.

Charlton: Mannion; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Ramsay; Coventry, Docherty (c), Berry, Small; Ahadme, T.Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Potts, Watson, A.Campbell, Aneke, Godden, Kanu

  • C'mon you rip roaring free scoring three point grabbing Addicks!

    These pills are gooooooodah!
  • Win the toss.
Make them kick the wrong way.
Equip Mannion with a cap to shade his eyes if the sun gives him trouble.

I think as we look on the television, the Shrewsbury home end is on the right hand end, our support behind the goal on the left.
I think I remember Shrewsbury getting a last minute winner or equaliser once at their end when the heat was on us and we were trying to see out the game.

Mistake by Morgan I remember the ball come back into our box and the ref gave a pen
  • Aneke on bench, no Anderson
  • Just swapped the front 2 back

  • Their no 12 is no surprise. I have seen lots of TV ads telling their manager to Play Ojo!
  • Looks like Potts has edged REG aside.
There is a degree of versatility about Watson, can see why he is a sub, and I am glad to see Kanu there but wouldn't expect him to start anyway after being away this week.
Campbell back in for Godden rather than Ahadme is a talking point.
  • He did look good when he came on last week.
  • Ahadme, ffs
  • 5 games in & the 2 starting strikers have yet to trouble the scorers. It's a shame that Aneke can't start a game as we usually have to wait 60 mins before the recognised strikers make an appearance.
  • We do miss having a sub (or starter) to make the midfield/wing more attacking.

Did you say that when Alfie May didn't score fir five games and then scored a penalty.

  • When do the home supporters arrive?
  • Just swapped the front 2 back

Front one - TC and Godden.

Or when he scored 1 in 13 from mid December to mid February

Playing right wing for a useless manager.

Is this game on Sky or do I need to pop over to France to watch it on Charlton TV? I never seem to be able to find out where Sky list the games they are showing that aren’t on the main channels
  • First time I've been here, lovely stadium, trains on time, couple of Moretti's in the Bulls head, what could go wrong ?
  • Watching the pictures from well before kick off is good.

You'll need to nip over to France - Best website to see what fixtures are available on Sky

We all know that in these sort of situations the football always conspires to fuck your day up?

    Enjoy.
  • Feels like a match we need to get the three points from if we are serious about a top 6 push. Be a test to see how much we are able to create going forward as you assume Shrewsbury will sit back and try and be difficult to beat.
  • Shrews Comms expect a reaction from their team after the 3-0 defeat at Wrexham, one of their Commentators reckons we'll score but it'll finish 2-2
