  • Agree with fellow posters about the game and certainly showed enough skill out there last night that will see us be one of the top contenders for promotion. However, we still need time for the team to gel so all be patient.

One minor observation is that I dont like the blue away shirt as I could see who was who. Bring back our white or yellow away shirt.
  • Haverson was at West Ham with AP along with Phil Chapple who scouts the other teams. He may even have been at Reading as well but not sure on that.

Haverson scouts for signings although there are other scouts around the country and abroad. I'm told he has a very in-depth knowledge of players. If you mention the Ghana under 21 side, or whoever, he'll tell you that they have this really good full back.

Most importantly, Pards trusts him and his judgement so meaning that signing can be made more quickly than under Curbs who insisted on seeing a player many times himself in the flesh.

Don't know much else about him or his playing/scouting career. Never met him.

Was a teacher at Bexleyheath School (maybe when Hillsy was there ?), played briefly for Welling and a few other non-league sides, owned / run The Bottle Stop off licence in Pickford Lane, coached youth at QPR, and also coached yours truely for a little while.
  • Just a thought...it seems our scouting network has been delivering the goods.

Shouldn't we be thanking Dowie for sacking the last lot?

Never knew that. Tried to get him down to Bromley Addicks last year but without any luck. Will try again if he is local.

NO NO! NO! Thank the board for appointing Reed which meant that when Pardew was available he could be offered the top job and then bring in Haverson.
  • Thanks Henry & AFKA. Seems to be proper local man, - and a good scout.
  • There is also a Jack Haverson at Grays, 22 and born in Sidcup. I presume related given the unusual surname.

[cite]Posted By: Addickson's God[/cite]Iwelumo, the worst striker to wear the shirt for a long time.

seen him twice only I know but inclined to agree.

Two good chances went begging : - ) Does hold the ball up and defend well at corners.
  • Yeah granted but his work rate alone makes a mockery of them two

I like him. Works very hard, puts it about as well but not so as to give away too many silly free kicks, does have some skill and yes he missed some chances but he was getting in good positions.

Reallty feel for McLeod. Missed a pen, fluffed a one on one and must know that Varney will be back, Toddy is scoring and Big Chris is playing well.

Hope he doesn't let his head drop and takes his chances next time.
  • What a difference it is to see a striker clap every move, and every missed pass, trying to encourage.

Iwelumo is everything I had hoped from Bent.
  • Spot on Tricky. True football fans have always appreciated a 100 percenter - and Chris appears to have a little more to his game than just that. He also clearly loves just being a part of what he sees as a relatively glamorous club. Ability or not, M Bent can't hold a candle to this guy.

spot on you two dudes, spot on. he is aproper type player and thats why pards took a punt on him, hats off to him and pards.
  • I love the fact we all call him Big Chris as no one knows how to say or spell his name!

Only girls who watch premier league football call players by their first name... locked on, FACT... etc.
  • if they're Bent we call them Marcus or Darren ....

... no, no Mr Ambrose I didn't mean you!
  • To be a pedant, with the Bents It was 'Dazza' and the 'cleb shagging usless prick'
