Main thing I keep thinking is that for the past 5 seasons we lose that game. We need to win it ideally but once we conceded our heads didn’t drop, our subs made an impact and we scored. We lost ourselves a bit after but it never felt to me like we were going to lose after the equaliser.
Also thought Ramsay was excellent, Mitchell did well not to get a second yellow considering how physical his game is and A Campbell looked a step up from Berry who has looked off it for a few games.
If you keep conceding ‘worldies’ then there is something wrong with how you’re defending.
I'm not convinced theirs was a worldie tbh. No doubting it was a very good strike, but we gave him loads of space to do it. The thing about this defending game is that you have to do it for the full 90+ minutes. You're only as strong as your weakest moment.
Every goal from outside the box these days is a worldie Stig
The press and percentage stuff is fine when it works and if we score first it is effective at grinding teams down. But if we go behind we're reliant on a player coming up with a moment of inspiration to rescue things and that's not sustainable long term.
I'm not going to get too down yet, we've won 60% of the games in the league and only lost once. Obviously its a miniscule data point and means very little so far but it does suggest that there is some sort of plan and potential but it's going to be a very long very tedious season to watch on current evidence.
That's not a criticism of NJ, he's obviously decided to focus on being physical and scrappy over fluid and entertaining and he's succeeded in that - his job is get results not be the most entertaining team in the league. But that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend that I'm actually ENJOYING all things CAFC much right now.
Yes it covered a lot of clichés - bright start, no shots on target, concede from long range, Aneke digs us out a hole, their manager getting a yellow card. It was fairly exciting and open by this season's standards.
I’m not having any of this “we were shit” chat. We weren’t shit in the slightest. We definitely could’ve been better going forward but otherwise we were ok. It was just a very solid draw. No more, no less
Very disappointed after we scored, thought momentum would win us the game, but in reality we couldn't put two passes together.
Standard stuff. Just after we score an opposing player goes down injured for 3-4 minutes. Takes all the sting out and any momentum out after the goal being scored.
We did something similar with a Mannion ‘injury’ when under the cosh in the first half last week.
There’s so much spoiling shit in this league it’s unreal
First game at the valley in a long time. We could and should have done better in that game and I'm sure Rotherham fans feel the same.
I stopped off on the way back to the station with the kids at what I thought would still be Seabay Fish Bar. at first I felt some disappointment that a childhood memory was gone. I walked into it's replacement CLV Pizza and Grill with the kids as they saw pizza and wanted pizza.
They loved their pizzas. The owner was really kind too, giving us a freebie drink and chips for the kids. Would highly recommend as despite the police presence, they're open and serving on match days til 11pm.
Anyway back to the football, I thought we looked good in spells, but felt Ramsay aside we were just fine at defending today.
We really need to get Chuks and Campbell on up top together more frequently.
It seems that the Nathan Jones style of play is the most well known throughout the league. Not hard to scout or defend against if you always know how your opponent is going to play.
That was grimly disappointing fare from two poor sides ultra sCrappy with the emphasis on the crap Kayne Ramsey stood out first half Ahadme looks worse by the match TC was quite the upgrade on Godden Chuks will get plaudits for the goal but that was the sole time in his cameo he managed to keep his feet. He spent most of the warm up and halftime practising heading goalwards from crosses. Given the chance for real from 4 yards he fluffed his lines we win the ball back quite quickly but rush to give it away The teams we’ve beaten so far are all right at the bottom of the table let’s hope that’s a portent for the Blackpool and Shrewsbury games
Their goal was a good strike from outside the area. As with Reading’s goal last week, it was a speculative shot that you rarely see go in when it’s handled properly by the defending team.
Those speculative shots are in general about a 1 in 50 (2%) type of shooting opportunity and we’re either unlucky that they’ve gone in twice in the 10 shots (20%) we gave up from outside the box against Rotherham and Reading, OR if there’s longer term trend (it feels like it) from last season, then something’s going on that has to be addressed.
I am disappointed with all three midfielders for letting him get the shot on goal this afternoon. They made up the ground and then all shirked it when push came to shove.
Kayne Ramsay. Brilliant performance. Chuks screamer Jones subs
Negatives
Christ our football is dull. I dont mind it when its effective, but when its not, its just shit. Nothing wrong with long balls early to stretch them out, we did it against Bolton but then got the ball down and played. Today, we just smashed it diagonal for 90 minutes. We do not utilise our midfield 3 to their potential. They are all good footballers, get them passing the ball. Gillesphey is a decent defender, but my god with the ball he is woeful.
Ahadme wins some decent aerial battles but i think we've had our pants pulled down im afraid.
What are people's thoughts on Thierry Small at the moment. For me he seems to be really off of his game and not at the levels he was producing last season. Thought he was poor today.
I actually thought we were better going forward and better at controlling the ball than the 2-0 win over Bolton. We had some great chances, particularly in the first half, and I think starting with the front two we did, and then bringing Aneke and TC on in the 2nd half was a much more effective use of our forwards.
Rotherham are a good team. We need to beat the good teams at home more often than not, but a point is just fine.
Fair result but, as a few have said already we are simply not getting enough from our wing backs and our midfield is truly missing someone like a Claus Jensen to put a killer pass in.
Its still early days and there's a few changes at Nathan's disposal so it's a bit unfair to judge anybody too harshly and that includes Gas, get him and the other other front men some quality service first before we go all judgy!
This is a blood and guts League to get out of and it will be a war of atricion but I have faith in Nathan.... He knows what it takes to get promoted.
I do however hope that the next three games we perhaps tweek the performances and go for it a bit more.

Better than being shite and having 3 points from 5 games and your manager gets sacked like this time last year.
Get out of this league however we can. I will take winning 3 out of every 5 games between now and the end of the season.

We've regressed up top.
Midfield is better but lacking creativity.
Draw a fair result and peach of an equaliser but should be banking these as home wins if we want to have a solid push.
Hope Jones stays with us long term. He's sorted defence out. Now we need to enhance a creative midfield and better goal threat up top.
Ramsey was outstanding and best performance on the pitch by a country mile.
Wonder who the six potential starters were? A Campbell is the only one I can think
Happy to be proved otherwise though.
