Seasons when Charlton have been top of the league

  • Well clearly the 1999/2000 season where we were top for ages. Same again for the SCP points record season, although that was more towards the end of the season whereas 99/00 was more Feb/March time and then in good old CAFC fashion we fell over the line.
Utter nonsense, I watched us go top of the league in September 2011 the day before I moved to China.
  • Prior to starting the game on Saturday we were second, Stockport went behind and we were drawing, we were top for a while.

If we ever went ahead first game of the season before anyone else did, we’d have been top.
First game of the season v Notts County 1975-6 we scored a penalty in 2 minutes, pretty sure it was the first goal of the season anywhere, although we ended up losing 2-1 after that.

If we win on Saturday we could go top after 5 games played, having played a game more than most - that’s only if Wrexham also fail to beat Shrewsbury.

If we win our next two games against Rotherham and Shrewsbury we will be guaranteed top of the league after 6 games played, on the evening of Saturday the 14th.

That’s because the only team that could stay above us with six played is Wrexham and they don’t play until the evening of the 16th, against Birmingham.
  • August 92, i watched us beat Cambridge Utd away, and recall singing “we are top of the league” on the way back to the station!
  • We were top of the old First Division for a few weeks during 1936-7. There might be ne or two of us whose fathers or grandfathers went to one of those games.
