I don't recall seeing the player but Campbell looks to have a good pedigree and this is hardly a loan in which Charlton are developing someone else's player. I don't know what Campbell's contractual position is but, having been loaned out last season as well, he might well be a free agent next summer and, even if he is not, a successful spell at Charlton could well lead to him joining us on a permanent basis.
On the basis that Fraser and Taylor have no future at the club and Edun is not rated, we now at least have five midfielders for the three slots. We'll certainly need them with injuries and suspension over a long season, particularly given the team's high energy, aggressive style.

People saying Karoy and Kanu need to go out on loan! C'mon these two were brilliant for us last season FFS. Getting older more experienced players in doesn't mean you have to ship your prospects out. It actually gives the management the option to use the boys when he needs to and not flog them cause they are the only option! Never heard of Allan, but hopefully he does well. COYA
I think that works for Anderson, being one of 5 competing for 3 midfield slots, but Kanu is one of 7 competing for 2 striker slots. I would give Dan a good season long loan, he's still young and we'll have striking positions open up in the next couple of years.
Dixon is a completely unknown quantity. There is an inevitability that Chuks will be injured soon and Leaburn still is . We might not need Kanu now but we will soon . Anderson leaving is a complete non starter .

I hope not. If we’re relying on two kids stepping up then we’re in bother. We have two of our seven front men with question marks, one is learning his new role, one is still a kid which leaves Ahadme and Godden. If all goes well then I think we’ll be fine, but if Chuks gets crocked and Miles needs easing in then suddenly it’s not quite so rosy. Having said that I don’t see anyone coming in.

At 26, Glasgow born Midfielder Allan Campbell had played 135 games for Motherwell which as we all know doesn't mean a lot when compared to playing in England. Rated at Luton in 75 matches but couldn't make a mark at Millwall in a dozen games. 24 U21 caps and 1 full cap so you would think a decent addition to a League 1 squad with a top 6 minimum requirement.
This 1 season loan just confirmed that Terry Taylor will struggle to get a game or even a place on the bench and Fraser is persona non grata until CAFC can arrange a loan deal with a financial hit.

The Alan Campbell who excelled under Eddie Firmani is my standout Charlton player - period. The 68/69 season is still without equal in my mind for sheer excitement, even though we just missed out on promotion to Derby County (under a certain B Clough) and Crystal Palace. He was ably assisted by Matt Tees, Ray Tracey and Graham Moore. A great Charlton side.

Heady days indeed, loved all the games you mention not forgetting 2000 (according to the Kentish Independent) walking to selhurst from the Valley for the league game about September going 2-0 up missing a penalty (I think) & grabbing a 3-3 draw which was the problem, too many drawn games 8 at home if I remember correctly. Remember going up to Derby playing them off the pitch hitting the woodwork 4 times & losing 2-1. Putting in a bid of 70k for John O'Rourke from qpr which was apparently accepted but we pulled out & signed Ray Crawford instead who was a class act but on his way down whereas O'Rourke was in his prime. We could & should have done better but still as you say magical times. Better than 99/00 ? I'm on the fence but I loved both seasons

Whose position does he take? Berry or Coventry or Docherty? TBH, I don’t know too much about him and as much as we need strength in depth, it’ll be a shame to drop one of those players 🤔
If you want to wind up Leuth then 100% definitely Coventry who isn’t fit to lace Dobson’s boots.
Otherwise from what I’ve read about him he’s competition for any of the midfield roles. Assuming it’s confirmed it’ll be great to have a proper senior alternative rather than completely relying on Anderson (though he still has a part to play).
There are bound to be injuries and suspensions, and even if there aren’t, rotation will be crucial when the Saturday - Tuesday grind kicks in.

Not sure we need a Dobson replacement right now. This midfield is doing a pretty decent job protecting the defense already. Campbell is just added depth I think.
The Dobson replacement is all the players taking on defensive/tackling/closing down/leading by example responsibilities rather than leaving all that to only one player (Dobbo).
