Charlton TV with EFL involvement.

  • No wonder the swedish addicks were treated so badly, they do not travel home and away and are not real fans!
Bad luck for living in Sweden and having in the past a streaming service that lesser clubs are still operating.
Probably does not add up too much but I would pay my 10er per game but now it's an illegal stream because the content from CATV is not worth it.
  • Also my kids are half German but I forced them to watch CATV every match day! They have grown to love Charlton but now without the added gloss and technical difficulties they are losing interest rapidly...
2 fans potentially lost whom would of attended games when or if we return to the UK.

I’m glad you mentioned it @ForeverAddickted, because trying to safeguard attendances by not broadcasting them is like trying to stop kids from wanking in the hopes they’ll want to save themselves for marriage! It doesn’t work that way.

I don’t know the costs involved, which obviously is a major factor, but the thing I find reductive about valuing the studio show solely in terms of paid subscriptions is that we’re then missing the role the show can play in deepening ties to the club. The show is a very good way to provide an answer to the question of “why Charlton?” Why should a person new to the club fall for this particular club? But also reaffirming a long-standing supporters reasons for sticking with it. There’s a long-tail-effect to producing that content and putting it out there, freely accessible. Good content, and the studio show was very good content, will eventually strengthen ties to the club and result in growing the fan base, both outwardly and in terms of depth of feeling. Eventually, watching on tv, getting hooked to the club and its history, leads to having to be there to experience it directly. Slow and steady, the way we’ve successfully done it in the past.
    Good point well made
  • And I'm on one now...
So wasn't the whole point of the coverage to appeal to international fans as there was a 3pm black out in the UK? Not taking into account VPN
If that is the case, the grumpy bloke who said make better choices where to live, his argument is redundant.
I could live in Munich or Medway, I know where gives me a better life, so good luck to me!
Unfortunately the club have pulled the plug on the great service they offered for international fans, which is obviously a cost cutting measure....
Nothing to do with bad luck
  • Don't see why Charlton TV could not have offered the pre and post game show as that does not infringe on Sky TV rights? I am an isolated fan here in Massachusetts USA and it was wonderful to keep touch on what was going on at the club......shame

Not long now before the Moving Magazine makes its monthly appearance
  • The unspoken thing here is that Charlton TV only continued in its format post covid was that our owner lived abroad and was the one with final say over decisions.

I agree that it must have been a great thing for fans not in the UK and it’s a real shame that that connection has been lost now.
  • Thank you Thomas!

You do not even need curbs, minto and Brownie.....
Hearing the same stories every week  was kind of funny but getting a bit stale....
Just have a local journo or even a fan doing a bit of pre match intro and half/full time analysis...

  • The game is still available , the chit chat is brilliant and no one is more besotted by Curbs than me , I watched the Orient game from actually abroad no problems .
I’m sure I’ll be watching matches from ‘abroad’ later on in the season .
As shit as the football is it’s still available to watch and that’s the most important thing .
Of course in an ideal world they’d have the studio action but I’m sure they’ll look at the numbers and if it was cost friendly they’d have them back but they’re squeezing every penny they can out of the asset

  • I was speaking to Paul Elliott on the way back from Wigan. The money that Sky were offering was too good to turn down especially considering so many fans were streaming the game illegally (my comment on the streams). So the club were obviously losing money each game they paid for the 3 presenters. Now the club profits no matter someone streams it on their stick or paying for Sky Sports.

As much as I enjoyed the prematch chats. I'd rather have them with other Charlton fans down the boozer.
Don’t take that experience for granted. Some of us aren’t lucky enough to be able to have it.

In fact, closing off the pre match shows for us international fans is like they’ve closed down the boozer with no alternatives offered.
I completely understand but if we go back a few years ago we didn't even have streams of our games let alone pre and post match conversations with pros. We've come accustomed to this but no matter what we still have CL and people that we can speak to on the phone. And if you do not have that option then lets sort out something between us as fans that you do have someone internationally you can chat and watch the game together online. We're all friends with the same passion here!
  • I am sure that Clive's comment was tongue-in-cheek. Our decision to move to Portugal was only slightly influenced by a desire to distance ourselves from the evil Valley...
