  • The stream issues and injury to Edwards have definitely masked how shit this has been.

We have been crap quite frankly. Our formation relies heavily on the wing backs winning the ball high up the pitch and neither has been involved enough.

Strike force has had little or no service but has looked toothless with what it has had.

    Pedestrian in midfield as well.

I was led to believe that we were supposed to be playing a high press? Looks like Orient are the only ones commited to a press at the moment.

Early days, but it is increasingly looking like there aren't going to be enough goals in this team.

Need some creative influence in midfield and someone with a bit of pace.

Thankfully Mannion and the 3 centre backs look ok at present.

Charlton on top in all measures except the scoreline.
Where did our 0.99 xG come from? 🤔

We’re definitely stronger at the back but if you’re going to lump it you need more guile and physicality up top than TC.
TC's is the pace merchant. Ahadme is the one  supposed to be challenging the balls lumped forward. Balls for TC should be along the floor.
  • 2.5 matches played and we’ve given up very little in terms of chances against thanks to a combination of organisation and determination. Again, a big improvement on last season.

2.5 games played and we’ve created very little in terms of chances. Credit to Orient, they’re working just as hard as us. Campbell has grown into the game but Ahadme has offered very little so far. Small has had a couple of good moments since coming on, need to keep him running at Clare and hopefully we might see a second yellow.

Hopefully Edwards isn’t too badly hurt but it looked potentially pretty bad in the replay. Potential broken foot or ankle.
  • Just seen the replay. Red card all day long for me for Sean Clare. Tough to see in real time for the ref at that speed but that was nasty. #cafc

  • Fast tempo competitive game.

    Good effort.
    Strong defence
    Crap ref.
Disappointed with Docherty and Berry so far.
    Very little created.
Hard to see where the goals will come from.

    Err..that's it.

I’m trying to be positive but I am being sorely tested.
What’s your issue? We have their backline on the ropes
What game are you watching, I’ll switch channels?
You might wanna have a word with Richie Wellens, he disagrees with you!
Richie Wellens will know how I feel?  That’s just plain weird.  Again, I’m trying to stay positive but am being tested.  I’m good with that and it doesn’t need a discourse, or trolling.
Fine. Don’t know why you think I’m trolling though!

Clearly the Orient manager was worried about the threat from our side or he wouldn’t have had the keeper go down with a fake injury to grab all of his defenders and make them aware of something we were doing that was hurting them.

Sorry for those who may have believed me in thinking it was FT. Let us hope we can do better at the real FT 🥴
  • For anyone still watching the HT coverage on CharltonTV, is the bloke in glasses having his voice dubbed? - He sounds so much deeper than what he should do lol!

Well this is no better than last season….no threat up front whatsoever….selling May a big mistake
Exactly. I know some are going to get annoyed every time this is said but selling May looks a crazy decision. Why Jones didn't want him is beyond me.
  • Genuinely pondering whether to watch the second half. Might enjoy doing some weeding more than another 45 minutes of that.

    Spot on.

  • Watching live from the Curbs stand, I didn't think the Clare challenge was a red, as both players had to go for the ball, and Clare was only fractionally late, so I can understand why he only gave a yellow.
VAR of course might have upgraded it.
  • I can understand going long and playing off the second balls if your midfield is physical enough to win them, but ours isn't. And when we do win them, we've not got the quality to do much with it.
  • No luck for those seeking alcoholic relief from this dross.
The queues for the bar in the covered end as worse as I've ever seen them!!
  • For anyone still watching the HT coverage on CharltonTV, is the bloke in glasses having his voice dubbed? - He sounds so much deeper than what he should do lol!

Editing is horrendous. Part way through an interview, suddenly cut to first half highlights, then all sound went.
  • Ref a disgrace for letting Clare get away with that. Should get demoted. I think when you miss a clear red like that, it affects the rest of the game. I don't think Clare meant to injure Edwards but he was late to the ball and it was clearly dangerous play. I think the level of League One refs is a real issue.
  • Bar service in the covered end upper might be even slower than last year. And one of the bars has run out of lager

Where did our 0.99 xG come from? 🤔
    The six recorded shots

    Docherty 30’ (0.21)
    Berry 30’ (0.30)
    Ahadme 30’ (0.27)
    Berry 42’ (0.03)
    Ahadme 45+1’ (0.05)
    Campbell 45+5’ (0.21)
  • Ahadme is a worry
I can't see he adds any more quality than Kanu
    TC isn't a centre forward
Too many times we get in their half and then hey presto we go back, eventually, to our keeper.

I just don't see a system set up to win games by creative play.  Nor dynamic midfield play.

It's only our third game but I don't see patterns of play forming that will break down other sides.

  • Gillesphey a weak link for me. When fit wouldn't mind seeing Edwards there.
  • Midfield isn’t clicking again. We’re not clever or quick enough transitioning out of defence with the ball, and Doc and Berry are playing too high. We need to get the ball wider earlier and stretch them with width. Positioning just isn’t right.

Clare should be off, but this ref is usual L1 crap. Orient look tidy and press well, but we are not taking any initiative.

    Disappointing.
  • Game opened up after the Edwards injury, it looked like that maybe down to Small's willingness to get forward, it certainly got Campbell more of the ball. Defence looks OK, midfield is working hard again but not finding either forward, Coventry, Jones and Mitchell being our standout players.
  • I'd love to hear from Jones how our current tactics differ from his plan.
  • Audio users... anyone else afraid of using their phone while listening for fear of losing the stream??
  • One bright point for me is that Mannion looks decent enough . In fact, I've been quite impressed by him.
  • Gillesphey a weak link for me. When fit wouldn't mind seeing Edwards there.
What with a knackered ankle ?
