There was a long running story about a Mr Patel buying a property.
A bloke of Indian origin, who owns a property company that sponsors Charlton, is in a picture.
the OP makes a joke which can only be based on a suggestion that all people of Asian origin are Patels.
I just cannot for the life of me understand how this is your take when you do actually know the back reference.
Surely the OP is simply playing with the notion that the guy in the picture and the guy in the other CL thread are the same person…given that they have the same name and are both dealing in property?!?
It would be a joke, or at least an ironic one, if the man in the picture is the very same one who featured in the house saga thread.
If not its poor taste akin to jokes made in 1970's sitcoms like It Ain't Half Hot Mum or Watch Your Language.
Yep that’s my take. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it’s not stereotyping based on certain characteristics. But it certainly looks like it.
Should we make a new CL category entitled ‘desperately looking for everything and anything to be offended by that I can label as racist/sexist/homophobic’? Have a fucking day off.

No it's not. It's a joke about a successful business man called Mr Patel who works in property. There were very few jokes about successful businessmen in It Ain't Half Hot Mum. That's what makes it a joke. It's not the same Mr Patel.
If it were the same Mr Patel, that wouldn't be a joke, it would be a story.

But that’s the point! There was no suggestion he had the same name! Just the same colour skin.
I recall on this site many years ago someone made a reference to a bloke owning a kebab shop on the basis of being Turkish.
The response on this page was huge, with accusations of racism, stereotyping, tropes etc etc.
This is essentially the same joke - there was an image of an Asian bloke and therefore we can connect that to a previous joke about a Mr Patel.
The only real difference is the poster, who is on the “correct” side in any debate on here.
Do I think Chizz is a racist? Of course not. I think he is many things but not a racist. That doesn’t mean you can’t post something that might be perceived as such, like the Turkish kebab poster many years ago.
And by the way, for anyone that has a recollection of other posters history on here ( as I do) you may recall I am a pro Brexit conservative who would stop the boats tomorrow given the chance, and that rails against the evolution of a woke society (not your definition Plum) and gets pissed off by people that get offended on other peoples behalf when it’s evidently nonsense.
On this occasion I wanted to point out that there should be an equivalent response irrespective of the poster. I suspect that if any of a certain group of posters had made this joke (those of a similar political leaning to me), which can only be funny on the basis of skin colour in the absence of any reference to a name, the “pile on” would have been huge…

At no point was the original Mr Patel referred to as being Asian. That's in your head. And no-one made reference to the picture posted being that of an Asian man, until you did.
If you want to see the post through the eyes of racism, you're perfectly at liberty to do so. But, now it's been explained to you, and given the fact that you claim to know the person and therefore his name, it's faintly ridiculous that you continue to think that the post, the joke or the thread has anything to do with race, colour, creed, religion or anything other than a name and a profession.
Think about the comparison you've drawn. An assumption that a Turkish man might own a kebab shop is stereotyping. An assumption that a man called Mr Patel might be a successful property businessman isn't stereotyping. And, in fact, that assumption wasn't even made.
You're also perfectly at liberty to take offence at the post. But please keep in mind that no offence was made in the post, and the offence you've taken is offence you have chosen to take.

Read the thread title. And then ask yourself how stupid you think your post is.
If the eccentric character in the original story were named Smith, would there be a connection made later to a property business called “Smith’s” or run by any other chap so named? my money says not

If the successful property businessman had been called Smith and there had previously been a long-running narrative on CL about a person called Smith getting involved in a long-winded, abortive property transaction, then I would have made the same connection. I don't see why not.
