Brilliant. I suspect that if certain posters that you argued with vociferously on recent posts had posted this, you’d have found a very different angle.
If you think the first post is funny, you're right. And, if you think the first post isn't funny, you're also right.
But, if you need an explanation as to why a Mr Patel, the owner of a successful property business has found its way onto CL, then that's probably because you missed a long-running CL joke.

What are you waffling on about ? You need to stay off the sauce mate .

Nice Jimmy Carr quote about the nature of comedy…he’s funny.
I know the Mr Patel property thread very well.
You are now pointing out that this Mr Patel is successful. That was a nuance notably absent in your comedy, which seems, to me at least, to rely on stereotypes. But then your comedy is often nuanced, like the one about Nigel Farage dying. Apparently you forgot the nuance there as well. Sometime us mere mortals miss the nuance in your comedy.
Maybe I’m being sensitive because I know the Mr Patel in your picture. Maybe I’m not.

If you saw stereotype in the original post, you saw something that wasn't there.
I'm only responsible for the words and pictures I post. I'm afraid you'll have to take responsibility for seeing things that weren't there, again.
There was a long running story about a Mr Patel buying a property.
A bloke of Indian origin, who owns a property company that sponsors Charlton, is in a picture.
the OP makes a joke which can only be based on a suggestion that all people of Asian origin are Patels.
Hopefully that explains my point of view. If not then I apologise.
If it’s genuinely funny, I’m sure the original post will get plenty of LOLs.
The bloke in the picture is a Mr Patel. That, and the fact that he's in property, are the the entire points of the post.
You're the only one who decided to bring up the "origin" of either of the Mr Patels: the one who tried to scupper the property deal and this one, Kalpesh Patel.

I just cannot for the life of me understand how this is your take when you do actually know the back reference.
Surely the OP is simply playing with the notion that the guy in the picture and the guy in the other CL thread are the same person…given that they have the same name and are both dealing in property?!?

Did your joke mention that this was a Mr Patel so that people could get the connection? Or did it rely on an assumption that he would be a Mr. Patel. It was the latter. There’s the stereotype.
I understand that would have made it even less funny than it was in the first place.
But as you say, no comedian is accountable for what they say, just how their audience interprets it.
I know Kalpesh well. A lovely bloke and a very good golfer.

Yes. As you can see, "Mr Patel" is named in the title. No stereotype whatsoever.
I think the main thing that makes it less funny than it might have been is the requirement to explain it, over and over again.
Yep that’s my take. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it’s not stereotyping based on certain characteristics. But it certainly looks like it.
Should we make a new CL category entitled ‘desperately looking for everything and anything to be offended by that I can label as racist/sexist/homophobic’? Have a fucking day off.

Quite a remarkable post which I’m sure will soon be “justified” as some sort of humour others don’t understand. There’s precedent…
It’s more that they have the same name surely?
