Unless there's any more business this week, I can see the keeper and back 5 starting next week, and it wouldn't surprise me if the midfield 3 stay the same either, as Berry to me hasn't done enough to push himself ahead of Anderson.
Indeed, I can see the same 11 starting next week, as TC is ahead of Kanu, and Godden has started his Charlton career slowly.
I’m away so couldn’t go or watch on Charlton TV, so:
How did Mannion do?
Did Mitchell, Jones and Macca look strong individually as well as collectively?
He had absolutely nothing to do apart from one shot low down which he gathered easily . Pompey were toothless.
The three at the back looked comfortable and composed as well.
He actually didn’t gather it easily, he fumbled and had to take a second grab an pull it in to his body. To be honest Pompey were poor and helped us look a better side. Cambell was easily our best player and was impressed with Small and Aneke looked keen and up for it. Ahadme, looked very Stockley for most of the game, was very lonely up front. An to be honest lightweight…..
It was also noticable that there was a very large Police presence. For a crowd of 4,000 was way over the top. God knows what they expected.
The grass looked scuffed up across the field in the video. Especially where the warm up drills were. How did it look in person? I wonder if the pitch is not quite 100% yet
Took father-in-law to his first ever game today.... No not at The Valley, Varbergs BoIS v Helsingborg, so missed all the match. They lost 0-3 but he loved it. First time he's seen his team live at the grand old age of 88. He has also unfortunately seen Charlton lose at Rochdale, but luckily watched us tonk Barnsley 6-0!
Back on topic, so pleased for the fans to witness a clean sheet. Hopefully it shows the team that it's achievable, as is scoring at the other end (all in one game).
This is starting to look like a team that can play together. Much more cohesion and quality needed to be there abouts come May, but green shoots. NJ talks a good game and I hope his team can live up to the hype.
Currently in New Zealand so getting an appreciation of how unsociable the time difference is for our Kiwi Addicks.
Really liking what i am reading about this game. And as a side, this country is quite frankly other-worldly when it comes to scenery that looks like it is from another planet.

Forget Charlton for a while, that's brilliant mate well done

You mean he stopped the ball and then a split second later gathered it in as he is supposed to do. And Pompey looked poor because Charlton played so well. Let's not give credit where it's due, "To be honest".
Brilliant through ball from Edwards for first goal, a very useful pass. Very impressed with how Campbell then dealt with the situation. In past season, feel he would have lost possession, but the strength and patience to score was superb.
Aware they've been on trial for a while, but post-match is first time I've seen Jones say he definitely wants to sign both Hylton and Potts. We just need to move current players on first. Guess is that means Fraser and Edun?
- two academy players (TC, Anderson) - one summer 2023 signing (Jones) - three 2024 January signings (Coventry, Ramsay, Gillesphey) - five summer 2024 signings (Mannion, Mitchell, Edwards, Docherty, Ahadme)
The lingering concern in my mind is the possibility that Portsmouth are crap. Yes they have been promoted so shoudn't be compared to us, and this was the last friendly of pre-season, but they looked it. We shall see. It is a nagging feeling rather than a view and hopefully it will be put to bed next week, which is a strong possibility i'm sure.
"There were a couple of really poor mistakes for both of the goals and I thought we got what we deserved in terms of the scoreline"
"We weren’t at the races and so there’s plenty that we’re going to need to improve on. We got overrun and couldn’t come up with the solutions when Charlton pressed us"
I think Godden has dropped down to at least fourth striker after today. New midfielder?
I think Miles will struggle to get selected in current lineup. For a big guy, he doesn't dominate defenders, hold the ball up or win many headers.
Campbell ticked all those boxes today.
A fully fit Miles is our No 1 striker
A fully fit Miles Leaburn wouldn't be cafc number 1 striker ?
He would be a Championships club striker. Not sure what his ceiling is but an injury free season and extra strength garnered from gym work then the Premier may come calling.
Unfortunately with 3 serious injuries in the last two seasons he has to start again to get up to speed. Difficult to predict as injuries appear to hit some player more than others.
I really hope CAFC can benefit from October to May this season and if the multi million offer comes in then all Charlton fans know what will happen next.

🤞🏼that Miles Leaburn can stay fit.
Jones said Miles was very close yesterday in his interview which is interesting, I wouldn’t like to call the two starting strikers when everyone is fit as they’ve all looked good in their own way.
Wont get carried away, but no team is going to push us around this year.Looked solid at set pieces and even looked dangerous at our corners, bring it on.

agree about the police presence, ridiculous, about 20 officers standing in the middle of Floyd Road after game with hardly a supporter in sight, who pays for this, and havent our police force got greater priorities.

We never win by actually playing well. Our opponents always play badly.
It's certainly a strange one.

They had good organisational strength, physicality and were decent at set pieces. That is what we need to become, particularly attacking set pieces.
I went yesterday and I liked our intensity, pursuit of the ball and physicality. Pompey were atrocious and it will be a long hard season for them.
