Whats that you say? Charlton Life overreacting to the score of a preseason friendly...?
Impossible.
I doubt people are overreacting to losing. I expect they are worried that we dont look like a cohesive team & with the season starting in 2 weeks worried that this might be another false dawn.
Last season we looked like world beaters against Millwall for 45 mins.....then got walked all over in the 2nd half and ended up drawing 2-2. In the final game of pre season we were totally outplayed by Aberdeen & got trounced 4-0. And look how last season turned out.
For once it would be nice going into a new season with a settled team, all knowing where they are playing, and playing like a well oiled machine. Not like 11 strangers.
Can't read too much into it as we did well against Palace and in Slovenia, but that was poor. Edwards played well, Coventry/Docherty less so. Is Terry Taylor just a better version of Coventry?

We lost 3-2, although we were trounced, and only scored two late goals
Some of the OTT reactions are embarrassing. It’s pre-season. We comfortably beat a side a couple of weeks ago who then beat Luton in their next game, we then drew with and should have beat a mid table prem side last week. All 3 results mean absolutely nothing.
This performance does mean more than any of the previous ones, as it's just 2 weeks to the start of the season, and against a team at the same level of fitness.
Give it 10 league games into the new season - then we can see if NJ has got a grip.
Way too early to start having a go and i am ultra cynical !
I thought Jones was given a "free pass" last season. Keot being told he was given time to assess what players he wanted & that this season was going to be it.
Reminder blues just lost to Aldershot? Do you think they're finishing below 10th? Preseason results irrelevant
Only thing I'll add... What was the squad that faced Aldershot? - As they also beat Walsall 1-0 today - Not sure who scored though... Might have been Clinton Morrison... Edit: Sorry it was Stern John
Dominant for long periods but two individuals errors by Campbell cost us .. first poor defending for the goal just stop the cross , block it pushing out .. second one on one chance rushed his shot .. keeper clears instead of 1–1 it’s 2-0 ..
There was a lot of positive’s especially first half , defensively very good , midfield 3 looked impressive and Godden going to be a problem for defenders but Aneke was off today and did not really help link the attack and mid .. second half them two moments from Campbell whole sale changes just before the second did not help
but it’s only a friendly and you learn more from these games then beating a non league team 6/7 nil
Absolute wank , nothing ever changes, be lucky to beat 16th after that showing & yes I know it’s a friendly, Coventry stinking the place out as per usual

Sorry.....10 games in will be too late.
Out of curiosity, as have seen this 10-games mentioned on this thread already. But what happens if we're ten games in and stuck in mid-table, or worse - Do the calls for Jones to be removed suddenly appear from the stands?
Or do people need F**KING REMINDING we've not had a Manager survive a full season since 2019-20... and whilst we've had some dross in charge, we cant keep replacing Managers every season!! - Because I dont know if anyone has realised, we're not getting anywhere despite that never ending approach!!

Pre season is about giving everyone a chance and getting mins into the whole squad you never see a settled team during pre season

Their stronger side played Walsall and won 1-0. Not sure who scored…
FWIW I don’t think pre season results are as important as some on here but I think it’s clear we’re still lacking quality in a number of spots if we want to really challenge.
Of course the result of friendlies does not matter. But ignoring the result... Our defence cannot keep a clean sheet Our midfield is not creating opportunities and looks lightweight. Our (new) forwards are not scoring goals. I think that is a problem, don't you?
We’ve scored 10 in four pre season games including three against a team who beat Luton. We also grabbed a draw against Premier League opposition, would’ve been a win and clean sheet but for some silky JRS skill.
Today was disappointing but it tells us almost nothing about how we’re going to perform across the upcoming season.
6 against Dartford and 3 against a poor foreign team. The only real highlight has been the Aneke goal against Palace. But of course, everything is fine. I am sure the season tickets will get a big bump after today.
You’re welcome to your misery. Have a good weekend
the main thing I find odd is Ramsay has exclusively played RCB this preseason. Mitchell, Jones and Gillespie feels like the obvious back three but if that’s the case I’m surprised they haven’t been tried with Ramsay in front of them at all. I’m fine with Tennai as our back up RWB but if Jones is just using Ramsay in the centre then I’d be worried about Tennai or Asiimwe being first choice there

Hopefuly its partly because Jones doesn't want to reveal his hand too early

i was there today and it was poor, but it’s a pre season game where things are being tried out.
Also wouldn’t be surprised if there was a hefty running session done this morning by most if not all of the Charlton squad
it’s pre season, it’s still about the minutes and the players developing partnerships and understanding
