  • Still no clean sheet.

Defenders come & defenders go.......but there is no change.
We not played a first eleven defence yet in any game , plus we are still experimenting with Ramsey and Edwards .
whats the fascination with a clean sheet as long as you score one more then them you win the game
  • Enjoyed the thread but didnt know whether the setting was a training pitch or selhurst- where was it played please someone?

    Their training pitch…
  • The training facility was far better than Selhurst Park which is the worst stadium in the worst location in the country.
  • Thanks.
Looking forward to seeing us in the flesh v pompey.
  • They seemed to have a strong side out and I must say, it was a pretty even game though we had a few who I doubt will be starting.
  • Didn't see the game but sounds like an encouraging performance/preparation.
Don't think we read too much into Palace's PL status. Didn't we beat them in a pre-season friendly a couple of years back? Made them look toilet as I recall. Had bugger all significance as we continued our respective trajectories when the League games commenced.

It was strong but was still missing 8 first teamers I think, plus their first pre season friendly so they are behind us.
  • Based on the scant evidence so far, and the context of the matches and following events, I think some have made a good start and some still have extra points to prove.
For me the keepers have been much of a muchness and none have been stand outs so far.
Gillesphey and Edwards have been a bit inconsistent, Small has not shown a lot of his attacking, Asimwe still seems to need to grow into games. Jones is Jones, and REG has not been seen much.
However in a defensive sense Ramsey and both of the  Mitchell’s are doing well. Potts briefly caught the eye yesterday.
Coventry and Taylor seem to be rather level at the moment, the glimpses of Docherty and the other new midfield players and triallists I think have been inconclusive so far, but not horrible.
Godden and Gas have been hard to assess.
Anderson returning late has stepped up, and done well, and the notion of Aneke getting fit and having an Indian Summer with us is exciting. Tyreece Campbell and Daniel Kanu have both had a good pre season up to now.
I was’t really that aware of Danny Hylton, but even so, his displays so far have been shithousery on steroids.

As we know, JRS can open up even decent defences.
  • Why didn't Ahadme play?

Crystal Palace have a 50 acre site for their training pitches in Copers cope Road, Beckenham, next to where Kent play a few matches.

The site was revamped in 2020. Also across the road is their Academy training ground and my son thought it was this pitch which their under 18's and U21's play on which was used for the game against CAFC.

the game might have been 'only' against Palace, a club so many on here like to 'hate', BUT we more than held our own against a PREMIER LEAGUE side and were held to a draw by a superb late goal

I don't know what so many on here expect, BUT if that result is not a great reason to be very optimistic for the coming season, I don't know what is. And YES, I do appreciate that the game at Wigan will be the real acid test

There's nowt so strange as folk Lincs...🙄

the Palace training facility and Kent's ground next door were once the sports grounds for the Lloyds and Midlands banks, lucky they weren't sold for housing 'developments'

    That's right:
I used to play squash either there or next door, and it was to do with the Commercial union insurance, back in the days when I was as fit as a butchers dog.

They are protected land so it wasn't lucky it was the foresight of the countries planning division.

I used to arrange our office matches at Lloyds for Sunday afternoons so I could play for my Sunday league team in the morning and then head over to Beckenham and play again!!! Oh to be that young and fit again 😢
  • Palace's training facility used to be Natwest. They have another one down the road which was Commercial Union. Midlands is now HSBC which is next to New Beckenham station.
  • some absolutely lovely grounds round that way, Copers Cope / Langley Park Road - played there loads back in the day
