That might be because they were misled on this point? The new chief exec is on record as saying that anyone with basic competence can get the operating loss down to £1m-£2m and cover that with player sales. Nobody who knows the business believes that is possible.

I think that’s where we’ll end up.

Rodwell, it would appear, is managing the football side of things through Jones and is therefore best placed to do the negotiations (with a lawyer supporting, I would suggest).
Methven is on the commercial side and as he said months ago (and I agreed through my own experience) that the football and commercial side should be kept separate as no one person has both sets of skills.

People who argue we don’t need to worry about The Valley because the lease runs until 2035 please note. That is not a secure basis for investment in the club, which is what I have always said.
Whether it can be resolved cheaply I doubt, but it is a significant problem and will get worse as the clock runs down.
I’m less worried about the clock, it’s the fan base running down that will be a key one to watch if we don’t get promotion at the end of this season. The EFL/Sky deal will make buying a more expensive season ticket less attractive for many (has that ‘7,000 Addicks’ ST sales number been upgraded yet ?) and losing Dobson and now May by the looks of it isn’t a great indicator for encouraging fans to go to games. Less fans going to the Valley in a promotion winning year is a path that ended up at Selhurst

We have nine secure seasons left at The Valley. Cutting through all the crap, the one substantive thing this board could do off the pitch is to extend that. I think it will be hard to do, because of RD, and I don't think Charlie and his chums have the interest in it to make it happen because they don't plan to be here in 2034/35. I don't expect a running commentary or even care what they say about it in the meantime, but if they did actually manage it I'd consider that important progress.
Those who think it's not urgent should consider that the lease has already run for five of its 15 years and no third party in their right mind will be investing in (subsidising) a club that is at risk of losing its ground in under five. Tick tock.

Supporters can take part in the club’s bi-annual Meet The Directors fan meeting on Thursday, January 23rd at 7pm GMT.
The meetings, which form part of the club’s new Fan Engagement Framework, give supporters the opportunity to put questions live to members of the club’s Board and men’s first-team Manager Nathan Jones.
