I swear we always win just before one of these meetings, then as soon as they are over we go back to being shit.
Everyone’s going to go into it in half a decent mood. I wonder if Charlie and Jim will get an easy ride. Also wonder how many times they will say we are only 4 points off the playoffs. Or use that as an excuse for not needing to sign any new players.
Easy to cherry pick questions to make it look like an easy ride.
We shall see if that’s the case tomorrow night
On the plus side though. They can get through at least half a dozen more questions with Paul Ellliott not being announced to attend. Why use a thousand words when 10 will suffice
SMT and Nathan will get it easy tomorrow evening mores the pity. With YouTube link.
Show some balls guys and address a live audience in one of the lounges at The Valley.
You would get to feel how the fans really think face to face, and questions just put to you with out you knowing the question.
Have some balls next time and do it just like the old owners and directors did. At least Murray, Alwen,Norris , Ufton and Collins plus Lennie Lawrence the manager had the balls to face the fans.
With the exception of Bromley Addicks and one of the Kent ones, none of the other supporters groups or the club have organised a face to face meet since lockdown. These YouTube meetings never have the same issues in terms of difficult questions which probably suits the club and the other supporters groups
Well it’s about time the club organized a live meeting with fans in person at The Valley.
Thing is if you don’t vet the questions you get 50 in a row asking about the state of Bovril in the west stand or how the toilets only have cold water.
Don’t know what meetings you have attended but those questions will not help anyone.

There was a very scripted live meeting with Garner at the Valley which he clearly hated doing and where the questions all had to be submitted in advance and where read out by Charlotte.
It wasn't a very good meeting IMHO.
Sorry I forgot about that one, as it was a total farce I obviously don't count that one.
What is needed is question asked, replied, and the opportunity for the questioner to go back. The zoon/you tube meeting completely take that opportunity away
Agree that is was very forgettable.

But it gets harder and harder to have our meetings in the format that we prefer.
‘have any conversations been held with RD since your last update AND by when do you expect to either have progressed a sale or renegotiated the lease?’
Is the pitch better or worse than the contractors indicated it would be AND are you spending more money on it this summer?
What’s happening with the long term search for a new club secretary?
There are many but some more specific points might force some answers (or holes to dig themselves).

Question one is where the follow up question should be given, they'll know this is going to be asked and will trot out some rubbish.
These things are a waste of time really. It’s all just an effort at PR. This isn’t knocking the SMT at all. What question can ever be asked and answered that will please everyone ? Football is an emotional subject and we all love our club but we all have different priorities and expectations so no answer to any question can ever be not controversial.

Yes, we are building a strong relationship with the owner of the ground but by their very nature such talks are commercially sensitive so we can't say too much.. We and the American owners understand that longer tenure is important but there are ten years left so we are not concerned at this point.
Is the pitch better or worse than the contractors indicated it would be AND are you spending more money on it this summer?
We are disappointed with the pitch and have been speaking to the contractors about it. New pitches don't always look their best after one year. This summer we played a pre-season friendly very soon after it was laid and we've then had unusually wet and cold weather. It looks worse than it plays but work will be done in the summer.
What’s happening with the long term search for a new club secretary?
Chris Parkes, who is very experienced and a real Charlton man, is helping us. A Club Secretary is a vital role and we want to make sure that we get the right person. Sometimes, the best people are already employed so there are long periods of notice to work. Jim Rodwell and Andy Scott are both based at the training ground so keep a close eye on things.
Anyway, great result at Bolton, any questions for Nathan?

Due to the scripted questions or due to the fans. Why was it not a good meeting.
If it made a manager uncomfortable/hated doing must be a reason.
As you know yourself from Bromley, meetings with an audience and question and answer session always agood night if run correctly.

IMHO it was bad because Garner didn't really want to be there. He was the polar opposite of Holden in that he saw himself as a coach and anything else was a distraction. He wasn't a bad talker but he wasn't the most natural or relaxed. He was also relatively new in the role. He also had two of his coaches along and every question was asked of all three of them which was repetitive.
All the questions were pre-submitted, which does have some virtues as not everyone wants to stick their hand up in a crowd of people and speak, but the questions were quite safe and when Ben did say something interesting there wasn't a follow up "Tells us more about it" type of question and it was straight onto the next question which might be a million miles from the last.
Interviews and questioning aren't easy so it's not a dig at anyone but all combined (the venue was the fans bar which isn't great either) it didn't really click into gear.

Disagree. If the people answering the questions come across as authentic, knowledgable, honest, and anything they promised from a previous meeting they have either delivered on or very close to delivery the vast majority of supporters will be happy

I suppose so mate but what I meant was they can’t please everyone, for example I myself would be really pleased if they said they want to get us into the championship and be a stable side there whereas a lot would say that shows lack of ambition! Tbh the thought of us being in the Premiership aka Southampton, Burnley, Luton etc getting tonked every week fills me with no enjoyment

Yes of course they can waffle but you get my drift.
A specific like by when and then a follow up is all that can work.
The point being if it’s too open then we stand less chance of learning anything.

100% spot on with the answers. Makes you wonder if there’s any point having the meeting.

Hoping the recording is made available on the clubs YouTube channel as whilst I'd love to watch live the 3am start on a Friday morning is a bit much. No commitment I hear you say. Yup, I must try harder! For those watching live I hope it is informative.
I have become so cynical about this stuff these days. I suspect any pertinent question that slips through will be met with obfuscation or even annoyance. I expect platitudes and a defiant reaffirmation of their commitment to their "jam tomorrow" "project". I don't trust the SMT and their motives. No doubt some will be taken in by the Directors spiel and will gush about what an all round good egg Gavin Carter is. Just win games.

As someone who has both my ISA and personal pension with Vanguard I have pretty much the whole lot invested in US and Global index funds. I’m concerned with what is going to happen with a Trump lead US and how that impacts the global economy. I’m 55, not thinking I’ll have to touch either until I’m 65ish, although you never know right. What should I be looking at to spread the risk a bit? Bonds? I get so confused with the vast array of them and when I look up the data they seem to perform so poorly. Any thoughts on what might be a good area to look at. When people mention cash is that a Money Market Fund? For years I’ve always just stuck with index funds and done pretty well at it.

Maybe at the start of the event the chairperson could ask openly and out loud which types of topics or questions won’t be allowed.

Funny enough Bromley Addicks always did this with Richard Murray and his response was "ask about anything but individual player wages"
