Comical but the owners have lots of money to invest remember that....
Nowhere has it been said that this is due to finances, why would he be kept around if Jones doesn’t fancy him. Stupid to say it’s the owners with no knowledge of what’s going on
From the beginning of Jones’ tenure he hasn’t been keen on May , May tried to talk to him back then and the fruit bat nut downed him . source Alfie May
Charlton pulled off quite the coup when they signed Alfie May with the striker bagging 43 goals in the previous two league one seasons for Cheltenham Town.
Not my words but Charlton Athletes from opening day program last season.
With another 27 goals last season scored trust we get a good price for him if sold.
Didn't NJ say everyone has to trust the process and get behind the team, love alfie but one player doesn't make the team... NJ has got promotion out of this league before, so I think he knows what he is doing, and if alfie doesn't fit in with NJ'S ideas so be it...
Appleton got Oxford promotion & Lincoln into the league 1 playoffs
In the minority, but I wouldn’t be devastated if May goes. I have total faith in Jones and trust his judgment and decision making.
I support Charlton Athletic, not Alfie May.
Having supported Charlton, one way or another since '69, I'm never devastated by a player leaving, but I have also long since never had total faith in any one at the club with maybe the exception of Curbs, who earned it through 15 years of achievement with us.
I still don't believe Adkins was bad, his squad was mediocre and his hands were tied by awful recruitment. I remember one match of a midfield 3 of Arter, Gilbey and Ben Watson

It's a bit early to say you have total faith in Jones. Like you and everyone else I hope he proves to be a great success. But it's too early to say I have total faith. If May leaves he better have a good replacement lined up.
It’s not surprising that promotion chasing teams in this division will want Alfie May, 3 consecutive 20+ goal seasons at this level makes that a certainty. Huddersfield may well have bid for him, but unless they bud what we value him at then he is going nowhere. His value to us is always going to be more than teams are going to be willing to pay for him due to his age.
If Huddersfield came back with a 1.5m bud honestly we would be silly to turn that down considering his age.
All players are for sale at the right price but for someone like Alfie that price will be much higher than his market value.
Just in case anyone is late to the thread and wants a recap:
We're potentially going to be in a position soon where in a bid to get promotion out of this shit division, we have since January got rid of CBT, Dobson and May. 3 players who many would argue were our 3 best players.
Been told this morning "All that has happened is that we have turned down a bid. That's it. "
To be fair that will probably be the (pretty small) fire that is causing all smoke. He is the league top scorer, its highly likely that other teams are going to try and make a move.
What it doesn't confirm is whether May or Jones are actively pushing for a move. It could easily be a bit 2+2 =5 honestly.

We are owned by about 27 billionaires plus Charlie Methven. Offing our two best players in Dobson and May will be no problem because we have more spending power than Manchester City and can buy success.
cafc have rejected a bid from Huddersfield for Alfie May.
Remains to be seen if the Terriers come back in for League One's top goalscorer last season.
Don't see anything happening - even if acceptable offer is made - until Nathan Jones had the replacement or replacements he would want in that scenario

Until he does actually go, it's all noise.
My guess would be that either Huddersfield have spoken to his agent, and Duff might have even spoken to May personally, so they would already know whether he was interested in moving before a bid even went in.

May might even be playing some games to try and work out how important he is to Jones plans. Put a few feelers out to an old manager to tempt a bid in and then our response will tell him he’s still wanted

Can’t go without being replaced first - exactly how it should be.
He might not be someone we see thriving in the Championship but we’ve got to get there first and would do very well to replace him with a better player who scores just as regularly,
No player especially at league one level is unsellable regardless of our project and own goals. The team is bigger than one player no matter how good. That said forgetting about whether they see eye to eye, if May does not fit the jones system or personality etc. the morale in the squad is something which needs to be up there with the ability. We need to ensure “if” it was to happen the replacement was already lined up, no guarantees with any striker, but any championship striker (unless unproven) is gonna be on big wages and unlikely to drop down. Go abroad no idea if they will work. So therefore it’s looking at best striker in league one which was Alfie so then where do we go? Devante cole isn’t an upgrade and only one I could poss want is langstaff from L2 but seeing he has been made captain and settled that is unlikely too. We cannot rely on Chuks at all and Leaburn yet to prove any consistent fitness as good as he is. Kanu is a 4th/5th striker if we’re serious although I’m not wetting the bed at May leaving I am worried at how we could guarantee finding a minimum 15-20 goal replacement.

Make it make sense.
After watching last season I’d be happy with whole new 11.
There’s simply no excuse to sell Alfie May. If you can’t make him work in your team then the team is set up wrong
It's a fair point. Yes you could easily argue Jones should play a formation that suits May (ie. 2 up front) but if he has had success in his career playing a different way or thinks we're better playing 433, 4231 etc then it's his call. Managers live and die by their decisions, and this would be a very big one.
Jones has almost exclusively played two up front his whole career, and one could infer from our business and rumours that he’s looking to play 3-5-2 again this season.
Alfie May has scored 20+ goals for 3 seasons in a row, winning the Golden Boot last season. Selling him to a promotion rival is simply bad business whatever way you want to look at it.
What if we used the money to go and get Matt Godden and Kion Etete, for example?
Sell your best player to a promotion rival for either a 32 year old who’s never scored more than 14 League One goals or an inexperienced striker whose highest tally is 3 goals a season.
Both strikers would be good signings, but if we have to sell May to accommodate them then we’re in trouble.
I disagree - it’s not as simple as have a 20 goal striker, win promotion. And the opposite isn’t true either.
Alfie has played three seasons back to back with 20+ goals. Very impressive individually. But his teams have never not flirted with relegation during that period.
I’m not going to argue too much here otherwise I’ll be accused of being anti-May like what happened with Dobson all over again…
In NJ we trust.
