We should add Wigan’s Godo & Jonny Smith to our wishlist.
Both looked very good last night & would definitely be an upgrade on the very limited creative options in our squad.
We had a chance with Godo before he joined Fulham but he was "no better than we already have in the academy". I was inclined to disagree then and certainly do now.
I also like Aasgaard for Wigan - didn't do too much last night but a good player there
Looked up Godo, he’s about 6 months older than Campbell, so he could have been who they had in mind?
Keeper Big striker Number 10 (that can also play wide if needed) Box to box CM Physical CDM (Pratley type) Box to box CM Another box to box CM/10 depending on the system we want to play Back up left back (we need Edun to move on)
I actually think that our current crop of CB's is pretty good. We haven't really had a settled back line under Jones and since REG and Gillesphy came in until the last few games. I expect with a proper pre season under Jones coaching they will make a well drilled and effective back 3.
Thomas and Hector are the 2 out of contract but Jones clearly rates bith highly. Ness is the one who may move on or get a loan but Mitchell would take his place.
I couldn't disagree more about the CB's. Sure it's been unsettled and has improved under Jones, but every game I am just waiting for a mistake to be made and us to concede. We desperately need a top class CB to even think about the top 6.
Goalkeeper - I'd be looking for a permanent here that we can build around long term. Don't know if Luke Southwood could be available if Cheltenham go down? Not convinced by the idea of bringing Dillion Phillips back.
CB - would be looking for someone that can some in and be dominant, I don't think the answer is a return for the BFG just because of his injury record and wages are unlikely to be viable. Depends a lot on if we keep Hector I guess.
CM- Lewis Bate is naturally going to be brought up as an option as he is every window , available on a free . Joe Powell has always looked impressive for Burton. Wouldn't mind at all a non league move like a Chris Conn-Clarke but he's got Peterborough all over him.
WB- I'm a big fan of Lasse Sorensen but know deep down that's unrealistic. Jodi Jones I really like at Notts County but that's a gamble on him staying fit.
ST- would be looking for another physical presence that can give us a similar option to Leaburn and Aneke. Jake Young will probably be a possible option, can't see there being too much from the relegated sides from this league.
Also think we really need to use the loan market a lot more effectively next season.
Loans could be key but I think we have a much better chance of getting good quality players with Jones at the helm compared to Holden/Appleton/no manager. He's much more trustworthy if you're Arsenal, Chelsea etc.
Wonder if there's anyone in the Southampton academy NJ could persuade them to loan to us? Dom Ballard their young striker could be an option if he's fit again after getting injured on loan at Reading.
We've got to get the PL loans right, as in the last few years too many have just been squad fillers, of no benefit to our side AND probably pissing the PL clubs off too.
A PL kid will be inexperienced and have dips in form BUT in L1 should have big potential and stand out as being better than nearly all your own players. If the kid you're loaning doesn't go on to play at the Championship level at least, you've signed the wrong player.
PWR all entries but another for Stephen Humphreys up front. For me has potential to be talismanic in right team and has a touch of class and an anvil of a foot.

I do see that point of view but for me there are a couple of factors: - we haven't had a settled back line all season (until the last few weeks) - at no point has the defence looked properly drilled - the relationships and understanding of each others roles just hasn't been there - playing under multiple managers and systems in one season - midfield has been a real issue for us this year and has given basically no protection to the defence - always overloaded - ball not sticking up front meaning its always been coming back at us, so the defence are having to do so much more. If a defence at this level makes a mistake once every 15 attacks but are facing 40 attacks a game they will make more mistakes than the team dominant higher up the pitch that only defends 20 attacks a game (over simplified example but it makes the point). This is still the case even under Jones.
Things have changed massively since Jan. The change of system, manager and his training methods which I feel we are only at the beginning of the benefits of this, the longer Jones has to work with the defence the better they will look as a unit. I think that's the key point, its not about the individuals but the unit and we haven't been operating as a unit for much of this season. Since Jones came in every CB has improved on their performances earlier this season, Jones looked good in his spell before injury, Hec has been imperious the last few games and THomas has been excellent and is clearly favoured by Jones, even Ness has looked better in the cameos he made. Add to that REG & Gillesphey joining in Jan, both of these are promotion level in this league.
The difference between a shakey defence is 50% the right players and 50% being well drilled. I genuinely believe that with Jones/Hart/Flemming working with this group for a full pre season they will be so much better drilled than we have seen and look formidable as a unit. Add in a proper midfield and a striker that can hold the ball up and we wont have to worry.
In an ideal world, if such a player even exists and is attainable within our budget and pulling power, then sure a dominant CB to play in the middle of the 3, be strong in the air as well as comfortable on the ball but I would put all of my above list as higher priority.
Either way Jones clearly favours Hec and Thomas who are the 2 out of contract, REG and Gillesphey have both just joined and are going nowhere. Jones has time left on his contract and is good enough to be part of the group. That looks a good mix to me and has cover in all roles across the back 3 and plenty of versatility. The only one we could move on is Ness (maybe a loan?) but that doesn't leave much room for new players especially with Mitchell likely to be in contention next year.

2 years ago He was with Dartford u19s and was also on loan at Margate. When I brought up his name Steve Gallen was told “we know all about him and he’s no better than what we have”. So nothing happened. He joined Fulham a fortnight later. I’m fairly sure he and Kanu know each other well but I expect he’ll be looking to play above L1 next year.

If we go with 3 at the back and need 6, I wouldn't be against the 5 you've mentioned plus one new signing. Ness has to go I think and I'd give Mitchell another year in League 2.
If Jones feels comfortable then fair enough, obviously I'll back what he sees over myself but personally if we don't sign a CB who is better than what we have I won't be confident of promotion. It's possible a settled side and a new keeper improves what we have but I haven't seen enough to hold that view.
what are the EFL fair play financial rules for L1? There has been a lot of talk about a total clear out and buying almost a whole new squad but would this breach rules.
I was wondering about buying a new Keeper, given the above and that we have two OK keepers for this level, but then I remembered how we paid £1m for Kiely when we were relegated first time from the Prem. The general feeling was that we had other areas where we needed to strengthen and better use that money. How wrong we were. Kiely was a mainstay of the team, being a great keeper and giving confidence to to the defence in front of him. His only problem was he could not keep it on the green stuff when he kicked.

Not sure how up to date this is but we can spend up to 60% of our turnover on wages - however donations from owners and injections of equity count as turnover in L1, so there are ways around it if the owners choose to.
Did really well for Bristol Rovers last season. Integrated into Middlesbrough’s first team over the summer and started well but tailed off.
Been out with an injury recently but it seems their fans don’t think he has much of a future there. Think he’s the sort of young player to bring in and build a squad around. If he’s available.

I think most EFL clubs struggle with this. Particularly with first-time loans it’s notoriously difficult to scout which PL2 players are going to thrive and when. It’s also extremely competitive, since everyone’s looking for the same thing and budget is less decisive.
With that in mind, the question is: if you have a chance to take a Prem academy player for the season, and it is 50/50 chance of getting RakSaki or Nile John, do you do the deal?
If your squad is in decent nick, I would say yes. You’ll have plenty of misses, but the year you get Conor Gallagher it might just make all the difference.
JCH isnt Jones player I would think. Not sure he works hard enough off the ball.
Personally id look at Humphrys, Stryjet & Kane.
Kane should be a high priority especially if Dobson leaves. I quite like Louie Sibeley As well but I I think he is probably Derbys albie morgan so maybe not the best idea!
I think we should be doing everything to get the Chris Conn Clarke from Alti looks absolutely class and is a midfielder who scores goals which we’ve lacked recently. Maybe a deal can be done and we send some of youth players out on loan there?
A couple of suggestions from Gab Sutton on Twitter…
Jacob Bedeau - Morecambe Isaac Hutchinson - Walsall
I like the idea of Hutchinson…
He also thinks we don't need another striker, because Kanu can partner May....love Kanu, loads of potential, but I don't want him regularly starting next season personally.

Could we persuade Greg Docherty to move south?

Wrexham, Bolton, Charlton, Oxford and Hibernian are eyeing moves for Northern Ireland hot-shot Benji Magee, TEAMtalk can reveal.
Magee has been a revelation for Loughgall in the NIFL Premiership this season, netting 21 goals across all competitions for the club.
Lincoln, played 15, scored 9, assisted 3
Not saying he's on the wish list, just pointing out a premier league loan success story.
