Paul Hart - steps down as assistant manager 29/8/2024 (p4)

I think Hart actually went before pre season and so Brayne was already in post when Cohen became availableForeverAddickted said:Chris Cohen worked with Jones as well, whilst they were at Luton
Cohen left Lincoln (where he was working last season as Assistant Manager) for Stoke in the summer, but left Stoke in September, and re-joined Lincoln in November. Really wonder why we didnt try and hire him when he left Stoke, especially as Paul Hart stepped down at Charlton a month beforehand.
I cant believe that Jones didnt at least try to get more familiar faces around him with the hole that was made by Hart.
They've been working together since 2020; Cohen even followed Jones to Southampton... So why not here?
I've mentioned this a number of times now, but for a good few Managerial Appointments now, we've hired the sum of parts, rather than the group as a whole; Adkins without Crosby - Garner without Lindsay because we dont look at the bigger picture, and even though Jones is on a fair wage, we're still trying to do things on the cheap
Its like Clough when he went to Leeds without Taylor!!3 -
Is Brayne not the Set Piece Coach though?fenaddick said:

TBH, does NJ seem like someone who'll listen to constructive criticism from A N Other and give their suggestions a try ?Bournesnr said:If Jones can’t see what the problem is and needs someone else to tell him we really are in deep shit.
Maybe Paul H decided he was continually hitting his head against a brick wall...

Said this in one of my posts the other month. It can’t be underestimated how important Hart would’ve been to NJ.Henry Irving said:With hindsight, how much has Paul Hart's departure impacted?
Having your own assistant manager, someone who works so well with you and knows you well, especially when you’re as eccentric as NJ, plays a big part. I think he’s a man that needs guidance and to be the calm figure next to him. He’s probably an excellent coach but man management wise and having clarity is not what I see with him. I don’t think the current coaching set up pushes and challenges NJ enough and I don’t think he’s got someone he can really trust as a soundbite and reflect with, meaning he does it himself in his head and is why we get such conflicting information from him. Which is likely now translated onto the players too.
If they’re going to stick by him, they probably need to allow him to bring his own assistant that is going to do the things Hart did. Otherwise, I see this being over before he’s seen a year in charge.7 -

My boss is very good at spotting problems, but seems to have zero ability to solve them. Hence why my monthly catch up's he refers to as his counselling sessions.1 -
I doubt its made any difference at all, seems like clutching at straws to suggest he would of made a difference. Everyone knows we need a creative mid, a wide player and a better striker.0

Maybe Paul Hart would have pointed that out to Jones and being an older "mentor" he might have been listened to.Kindoncasella said:I doubt its made any difference at all, seems like clutching at straws to suggest he would of made a difference. You're right that we need those players but in the meantime the manager has to work with what he has and he doesn't seem to even be doing that very well.1 -

An assistant that the players respond to and actually like would probably be a great asset. It's not all about Jones and what he needs. Imagine the fall blast, mad as a hatter, bad cop Jones- a good cop would be very beneficial for the players in that situation. If there are just a set of 'mini-me' Jones acolytes in assistant roles, nothing progresses. Shout out for some diversity in the coaching staff, an older wise head as Hart probably was!1

Fleming and Jones were both defenders in their playing days so they basically are the defensive coachesMrBurns said:

We never seem to have a large first team coaching set up, probably why after successive ownerships, SMT's, managers and players we never look any different.
3 specialist coaches and 2 general and even then Jones had to push for Hylton to come in so we could have been down another. We're supposed to be a League one team with serious ambitions for promotion and surviving the next league up, is 5 really enough?

Our keepers are good shot stoppers, Mannion is good in the box and AMB has attempted to get better at that too. Main issue is distribution but that isn't a Henderson issueJustFloydRoad said:

I’ve just picked a random one to quote but there’s a lot of good ones in here…4 -
There are probably several thousand fans (not all on here) that you could quote verbatim in their criticism of Jones at around this time, me included. Bristol Rovers away in October was a particular low-point for me, and I would have been very happy to see Jones binned after an atrocious performance where we simply punted the ball from defence (not) to Ahadme's head whenever we had possession.2
