'Nathan Jones added Hart to his coaching staff in February, with the Addicks finishing the 2024/25 season strongly, including a 14-game unbeaten run.'

Isn't this season the 2024/25 one? or maybe then mean finishing the 2023/24 and starting the 2024/25 season strongly??
  • I take it James Brayne hasn’t started yet…
That’s what I was wondering, no real evidence or improvement in set plays that I can see as yet.
  • Paul, does look like he needs a breather and getting past it, in those photos.
  • Cheers Paul. Will be a sad loss for the club, but understand his reasons. All the best for your retirement.
  • Thought it was a bit strange he’d disappeared. Possibly a loss to Jones but I really like Fleming. Seems like a good cop to NJ.
  • Sad to see PH go, and wonder what the background is.
I have met him socially through a pal and he knows his footy inside out.
A backward step (imo) but we will see.
  • Wish him well, at 71 I don't blame him for wanting more time with his family
  • Best wishes for his retirement. The only slightly odd thing is that they've waited so long to announce his departure, when it was obvious something had happened when he wasn't included in the club handbook.

Not sure Id want more with mine if I live to 171

  • Wait... We had someone on the Coaching Staff with the surname: "Hornby"

Just wanna say... Thats Pwopa Charlton!!
He knows how to train them

Other than not conceding any goals.

He has moved up from his previous post with the club.

  • The swaps between us and Luton in the Sports Science area are interesting too, 2 joining us from Luton while Hornby goes the other way.

Does Sports Science come under Will Abbott?

Maybe. Aneke did get a free header from a corner against Bolton. A side with Santos in the defence.
  • Interestingly Terry said on comms he thought he'd seen Paul Hart at the Lincoln game. I wonder if NJ asked him to come and have a look to see where the problems might be
  • With hindsight, how much has Paul Hart's departure impacted?

    A lot I think.

  • If Jones can’t see what the problem is and needs someone else to tell him we really are in deep shit.

Seeing a problem and find a solution to it are two different things.

    Then why have an assistant?

Have you ever written a document where it makes sense to you as the writer but when somebody sense checks it, they rip it to bits? This is not any different.

if hart is watching and consulting, in happy as long as there is an improvement
The assistant will do what the manager wants them to do. Some will take training, some will just hand out bibs. Just have a watch of the Graham Taylor documentary and see what Lawrie McMenemy used to do.

A quick look at Curtis Fleming this Saturday and compare it at to how he acted previously might be telling to the relationship to him and Jones

Agreed, so your saying he can see the problem but doesn’t know the solution, surely he’s payed to find ways of winning football matches.

He certainly is paid to win football matches, well I very much hope he is.

But he's clearly struggling to do that. Either because he can't see what the problem is EG his tactics or team selection or because what he is doing to try and solve the problem isn't working.

If Hart, or anyone else, can help him out then all well and good.

I'm not saying he's not responsible for the results, because ultimately he's the manager and that is he responsibility.

I'm just saying he might need some help.

Impossible to know how much of an impact it’s had but what I would say is the football was shite before he left (yes we won some games in August but we did not play very well in most of them) and the two best performances of the season (vs. Birmingham and Stockport) came over a month after he left.

When did Hart actually leave though? - There were comments earlier on this thread that he wasnt even included in the Handbook released at the start of the season, was he even there for Pre-Season?
  • I wonder if Hart decided to leave because of what he was seeing on the training ground and on match days and couldn’t countenance working with Jones. There’s no doubt Jones’s methods are left field and I’d imagine nothing like what Hart was used to. At his age perhaps he thought feck this I’m out.
