If it's a conventional chair position, has more responsibility in being the 'link' between the board of investors/owners and the SMT of the club. Should be the one who makes sure the strategy of management & investment are aligned
I don’t know about these things really but feels like a slight watering down of CM’s influence? Not day to day obviously but an extra layer between him and the other owner
A non-executive chairman is a board member who manages the board of a company without being involved in the day-to-day operations. They are responsible for representing the interests of shareholders and ensuring the company is run in a way that is in the best interest of all stakeholders
I suggest it is a matter of closer oversight by and greater clarity of communication with the investors. Whether such clarity will extend to all stakeholders remains to be seen. I am still trying to work out Rodwells’ June appointment of specific oversight of all football affairs.
Overall performance might suggest not everybody is aligned with the same script.
Is this an indication of more 'hands on' to make sure that investors money is being spent wisely or am I over reading this appointment ?
That is how I read it.
GC is now better placed to ask questions and get answers as well as challenge the SMT ie Methven, Rodwell and Warwick.
IIRC Scott is no longer on the SMT.
It means, IMHO, Charlie isn't marking so much of his own homework
So the board had no chairman before and these successful business men only now see that as needed?
IIRC Rodwell was chairman of Charlton Athletic previously but it's not clear what his position is now.
My reading of it, since I only know what we've all read on the OS, is that the owners now want one of themselves as Chair so they can have better scrutiny of what is going on.

Hmm. The wording didn’t say Rodwell role changed - ambiguously said no other changes.
Poor comms as usual not to include the updated / refreshed board membership.

Agree it would be better to have reminded everyone of who holds what role now but I don't think that was the comms team being poor, rather it was deliberately left vague.
For all the talk about Methven, it was Rodwell who was Chairman (as well as MD) so if anyone has been demoted, it's him
From June
Charlton Athletic’s board for the 2024/25 season will consist of James Rodwell, Paul Elliott CBE MBE, Gavin Carter, Charlie Methven and Ed Warrick.
As Managing Director, Rodwell will oversee Charlton’s football operations at Sparrows Lane. He will also continue to chair the board.
Meanwhile, Elliott has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Board and continues to lead Charlton’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) initiatives.
Methven has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer, subject to EFL approval. In his role, he will be responsible for the off-pitch growth of the football club and will oversee the day-to-day running of the club at The Valley. Warrick continues as Chief Financial Officer while Carter continues as an independent Non-Executive Director.
As part of the changes, Andy Scott will step away from board duties to focus on his role as Technical Director in charge of the club’s first-team football departments at the training ground, reporting to Rodwell.

I’ve not yet clicked on the link, so not quite sure how this will pan out in practical terms.
However, when GC came to Bromley Addicks, he came across as a decent bloke who loved and cared about the club, so more involvement I hope, could be a good thing.
When at the meeting the other night with Deano and Brownie, I couldn’t help but think we could do with a younger version of Peter Varney involved with running the club, hope Gav has spoken to PV and Curbs, when he has been at the club to suss out, how they made it all come together and tick, on and off the pitch.
I know it was 20 plus years ago, or whatever it was, but it can be done.
I still don’t think I’ve got a clear picture about how our recruitment works, because it seriously needs fixing.

Hopefully SMT will now be held to account. Go get 'em Gav!
Don't remember him saying it would be a new chair but maybe that was said elsewhere.
