Agree entirely. Perhaps Daisy would have preferred a 17 minute interview with "No comment" as an answer to each question posed. You can't win sometimes.Redmidland said:
Happy Clappy? Bloody hell, just because some people, myself included, enjoyed his refreshing interview, it does not make me or others 'Happy Clappy '.DaisyEdwards said:Blah, blah blah. We have heard it all before. Next week someone else will be spouting the same old. Nothing can change until the club fundamentally changes from top to bottom.
Unbelievable that there are so many happy clappy Charlton supporters who fall for it every time. Wake up. We are sleep walking into oblivion and it will be your fault.
CF was honest, said we need to keep clean sheets, and, in his opinion, we have the players with enough quality to start winning games.
What did you want him to say "sorry were fucked!"
Just for the record, I don't think he should be made 'Manager/Head Coach' (unless he goes on an extraordinary run), but I wish him and Pearce all the best for the next few matches, because we need points!
This also gives our, so far, failing SMT to get in the right person as manager, be that Jones, Duff, Eustace or whomever!
Another wrong full time appointment and we are 'fucked', but for now with Fleming/Pearce in charge, I'll support them, like I've supported every manager in the last 63 yrs for their first few games! (Except Fraye!)2 -
Why would you want Fleming for caretaker when we have Curbs available dont make sense to me!!1
-
Curbs was pretty clearly not interested on Charlton TV the other night. Neither was Brownie before you ask.bertpalmer said:Why would you want Fleming for caretaker when we have Curbs available dont make sense to me!!3 -
I’d sooner have Fleming. Curbs hasn’t taken a training session for 15 years.bertpalmer said:Why would you want Fleming for caretaker when we have Curbs available dont make sense to me!!5 -
I thought he did too but haven’t we said that about all our recent managers, Appleton included?0
-
Indeed, why on earth would you choose someone who has worked with these players, knows the current situation behind the scenes and has been working consistently for the last 10-15 years when you could have someone who hasn't had a coaching job since 2009, has expressed 0 interest and has a very comfortable position hes in no rush to leave?bertpalmer said:Why would you want Fleming for caretaker when we have Curbs available dont make sense to me!!
Baffling, really it is. Absolute mystery.10 -
And I think that’s the nub of it @thenewbie, he’s very comfortable where he is and he’s also on a hiding to nothing!thenewbie said:

It would be good to know if he’s ever been sounded out, by the current lot or previous?0 -

Appleton used to like doing interviews the day before. The Fleming interview was on the traditional Thursday, but that might be because of travel to Blackpool today.
So given that there are probably some rules about doing a pre match it fell to Fleming,
I didn’t get the impression that he was being political or putting spin on things or dishing out platitudes but rather simply being himself.
Beyond knowing he was a senior Irish international it was my first time seeing and hearing him. Knowing he was born in Manchester I was quite surprised at how Irish he was, both in accent and style of speech and turn of phrase. I suspect his family returned to Ireland not long after he was born.
With absolutely nothing to lose I believe Fleming was being himself, and I would bet he is a good football raconteur if you’re hearing his stories for the first time. It was genuinely amusing when he effused about Brian Robson’s man management style being so good players would thank Robson when they were dropped!
Sometimes in our history ‘accidental’ managers have been our best appointments. Maybe Curtis Fleming can accumulate points and turn out to be another,
If this post reads like coming from an easily pleased melt so what? It is my first impression of the bloke, but I admit that he starts as a positive being I believe the second Irishman to pick a team for a first team Charlton Athletic match after Brighton last season.2 -
good interview and I wish him all the best in these difficult times .. he can't be any worse than the last clown we had on board1

Curbs does not have to take training, that is what his coaches are for. We need his experience to work with the players individually and help get the players confidence backShootersHillGuru said:

Please let’s forget about Curbs coming back
Lets enjoy him on Charlton TV
Have to be realistic about this
He is a legend /always will be2 -
This is a serious statement, why are you being silly with your answer, we must assume they still have offices or in the gym, where they can talk personallyShootersHillGuru said:

Excellent interview - a real football person who I have trust in. Handled the questions very well, kept the pressure off the players by not accepting its a relegation fight at this stage and played down the February run of fixtures - exactly what was required to be said. I wish him the best of luck and will back him from the start at Blackpool tomorrow, as Im sure everyone will, a tough first game which based on form is likely to end in defeat but hopefully we will see a difference on the pitch.
I understand the talk of Curbs coming back - I would love it and it would be quite emotional - we continue to want our Charlton back and Curbs would instantly give us someone to believe in again. I dont think it will happen, but in his absence Im more than happy to get behind Fleming .
I have nothing good to say about Appleton so wont say anything as there is no point.4 -
More or less silly than the idea that Curbishley is somehow instantly going to shake off 15 years of rust and somehow be this inspirational figure to a bunch of league one players?ross1 said:

Because as much as I love the guy, that really is pretty silly. Sorry.1 -
Heart to heart office / gym based conversations with players. Ok right. I’m sure the bloke on the training ground would be ecstatic. Curbs needs all in or all out in my humble opinion. Being a kindly uncle figure is frankly ridiculous.ross1 said:

If you wanted to discuss your future with your boss, if you had one, would you talk in his office or in the car park where your mates are all there? Say no more, we obviously disagree although we all want the same result1

Just seen Flemings Press Conference....

How he didn't get the managers job over Jones, based on just talking alone, is a mystery to me 🤣0 -

Wholeheartedly agree.Curbs_Ball said:Just seen Flemings Press Conference....

Best "talker" we've had since Bows. Talks a lot of sense and cuts through the bullshit.
I would have stuck with him until the summer.1 -
The guy oozes class4
-
It’s likely Jones is coming in with his own team. I just hope they can find a position for Curtis in the new set-up. The guy is a class act10

Sorry, just to be totally clear, I was being slightly tongue-in-cheek. My bad.golfaddick said:

As much as I like Fleming, Jones for me is absolutely the man to take us forward on this occasion.1 -
