It's clearly the last chance saloon for the manager. A win might buy him another two or three (quite difficult) games. I fear that anything else will see open hostility from the terraces and that might force the board to act.
Feeling oddly optimistic for this one despite everything taking place on & off the pitch.
We have added some real quality to the squad who have had a few extra days to bed in than they had for the Burton match. I think/hope that will make the difference tonight.
2-0 to Charlton.
Sadly I suspect it was just a few hours on Monday morning.
UPDATE: Asiimwe is playing for the U21s today, so presumably Tenai Watson keeps his place in the starting line-up, unless REG replaces him and Jones or Ness remains at centre back.
Complete borefest of a game will end 0-1 with Appleton (who had earlier brought himself on for Northampton and no-one was prepared to argue with him) rising at the back post in the 92nd minute to nod in a corner from Blackett-Taylor who had, earlier in the day, been loaned to Northampton from Derby as part of a clause inserted into Blackett-Taylor’s Derby contract that he would be loaned to every team about to face CAFC to avoid FFP sanctions.
Charlton win 5-0. Appleton celebrates at the final whistle by hugging and high fiving everyone before running across the pitch, ripping off his coat and shirt to reveal that "Charlton til I die" has been tattooed onto his chest. He goes into the Royal Oak and buys everyone drinks all night.
Tricky one to predict, we seem to have had Northamptons number over the past few years, but this is the shittest we have been.
They have some decent players in Guthrie, Leonard, Hoskins and Pinnock. They've won 3 in their last 5 so are in a bit of form, beating Oxford and Lincoln along the way, who we couldn't get near.
I think we are due a loss against these and tonight seems appropriate timing. I will say 2-1 Cobblers and truth be told, I couldn't care less if we win, lose or draw.
I am seeing people say we need a Charlton win no matter what, but sometimes you need to stand still or take a step back to progress, and I think this is one of those occasions. I'd rather us lose if it meant the club take action, and set up a decent end of season in sacking Appleton, than delaying it with a lone win. February looks devastating and we are on borrowed time as is.
I've seen a lot of people adamant that we can't go down in recent weeks, what's one more loss for the greater good.

Won't be a popular view, but that's mine
I know where you’re coming from, but relegation would be a potentially mortal blow, and every point is valuable at this stage.

Well according to a fair amount of Charlton fans and general league 1 fans, relegation is not a possibility if we keep Appleton. So in their eyes what's another 3 points thrown away..
It's grim but that's how I feel, we score and I don't care anymore, I care even less when we concede. That's the energy I've gained from the players I watch and the manager pulling the strings.
I've seen talk of a toxic atmosphere tonight, will there even be enough of us to create that type of atmosphere?
Like I said it won't be popular, and I understand people will have the view I am not proper Charlton for having these thoughts, but that's where my head is at and one lone win against Northampton won't change it unfortunately.
We haven’t let a late goal in for 3 games so I fancy us to get back to basics tonight and a 1-0 defeat with an 89th minute scramble from a corner that 7 of our players decide to leave to each other

Fair play.
We’ve been so streaky for a number of years, with almost every manager. Win a few games, go on a bit of a run, undefeated for quite a few. Then an unexpected defeat out of the blue, a draw, and then a horrendous run of defeats, prompting a change of manager.
Haven’t got the stats on hand to back that up, but that’s certainly how it feels.
2-2 written all over this ‘and now, the end is near…’
Apples does a cameo acting role, giving one of our players a thumbs up at some point in the second half while his wave to the crowd at the end we gleefully interpret as a goodbye (and fcuk off), while he is actually gesturing to connect with the fans. 🤨
Our PA has a sense of humour with Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ playing pre-game, half time and at the end of the game. Please do play this track if you are on PA tonight, will be an evening highlight.
I wonder how much sideways ↔️ sideways ↔️ sideways ➡️ back to keeper ↩️ roll out to defender ↔️ sideways ↔️ sideways ➡️ back to keeper ↩️ lose possession, there will be this evening 🤔

Ear cups and a two footed lunge into crowd to end MA's run of hands in pockets. (Cantona nowhere! !!!😉) Unmissable entertainment in store.
As for the game. A scrappy affair for Apples last stand ends in disappointment 1-2.

Scott sacks him the next morning.
CAFC always do the unexpected. Good or bad.

0-0 Half Time, TOXIC BOOS, 2-0 full time. FIESTA Appleton's got no hair and we don't care.
Not sure I’m even tempted with the stream tonight
