Noticed from the Chuks article that Jones didnt say much more around REG than 'general fatigue' and that the players will be dusted down and ready for Carlisle.

Suggests to me that REG isn't anything serious - which I am pleased with as he has been a big part of our defence looking more solid IMO.
Think REG hasnt played a massive amount this season before coming to us (Could be wrong?) but that would explain the fatigue issue.
Hope so, but think Jones likes to play down injuries rather than them being a big excuse.

    Ramsay's 'niggle' a good example.

Not that I am criticising it at all but Jones style of play requires a lot of intensity and running and probably doesn't really suit easing players back in gently after injuries. And especially given we still need more wins before we're definitely safe you can't imagine any of them getting a nice relaxing 15 minute cameo just to shake off a bit of rust.

No more mid-week games this season, it means the players will get longer breaks between games and for NJ to work on more detail tactics

There might be one in April if the game against Wigan gets postponed for internationals.

I thought he did an admirable job in a position that definitely isn’t his natural one, wouldn’t be disappointed to see him start on Tuesday but expect it’ll be Watson

I hope those poor sods who sponsored his away shirt this morning, either get their money back or offered a suitable replacement

They were offered over a million for Galbraith earlier today so maybe that move is on.

Shame this. I always liked him and thought his versatility was useful on the bench.

This really has been a proper clear out! Money that tight or clearing the decks for a proper promotion pushbsquad build in the summer?

I think his versatility is exaggerated - he's in no way a wing back or a centre back in a back four and he's not a genuine option to regularly play in midfield. He's a right back who can play CB in a back three. Fine as cover but we've got a fee for a player Jones didn't really rate, he didn't have a long term future here.

Agreed, he's the sort of player who's a good character, and who can do a job in a few positions, but without being outstanding in any of them.

A bit like Deji Oshilaja a few years ago, who was never good enough to hold down one position.

Interesting what was said about REG when we signed him 12 months ago.

And of course it was an Appleton signing.......no wonder why NJ was happy to let him go.

    Becoming a common theme.

I don't think he's even a right back. Not quick or good enough with the ball. Not a good enough passer to be a ball-playing CB but not strong enough to be a no-nonsense type like Mitchell. He's a RCB in a three as long as the other two are excellent and his wingback runs the show down the right. He's not a bad footballer per se he just doesn't really fit anywhere

Personally, I don’t think we say the best of REG or ever gave him a proper chance. Signed by either Scott or Appleton who moved on soon after.

Will be interesting to see how he gets on elsewhere

One of those players we’ve had so many of in recent years. Someone we’re constantly told ‘can do a job’ yet whenever they have to do the job they’re not very good at it.

Agree he's a useful option on the bench. Didn't mind him, never did much wrong wheb he played, a little surprised we've sold him tbh

    Another full back sold off.

Jones "He was a valued player but with his game time and opportunities slightly limited here, and Tom McIntyre coming in, I didn’t want to stand in his way."

    Wait isn't
Tom McIntyre a CB?! Kind of weird getting rid of a full back (I know people are saying he played at CB, but that wasn't his primary position was it) and saying that.

In our formation REG was a right sided CB in a back three. In a back four he'd be a RB. He doesn't have the attacking threat to play wing back.

He got pretty much the whole second part of the season and played in almost all of Jones' games before being dropped at the end, though at the time it felt that was for Jones to get a proper look at Gillesphey, Hector and Thomas. I don't think he stood out at all in that time apart from being not worse than what we already had. We kept 2 clean sheets in that time and while we improved over all we were still pretty rancid defensively. It was pretty clear Jones didn't rate him too highly last season and we prioritised that RCB role in the summer. I remember watching him against Lincoln last season and wanting to like him but having a nagging feeling that those passes he was sending forward to no-one might not get any better. I think we saw enough of REG to know that he wasn't going to ever step up more than what we saw.

He'll probably look pretty decent in the right place and playing a style that suits him. But I don't think he's really a Jones type player one way or the other.

Played there (RB) most of the season (Huddersfield and Blackpool being the exception).
Tom McIntyre is a Left sided CB (who is left footed)- that is where my confusion is coming from, or is Tom McIntyre going to fill in at the right side if needed?! Just thought it was odd he referenced Tom being the reason. Getting Tom just means you have another left sided CB/LB (LWB) not CB/RB (RWB).

McIntyre replaces Potts in the squad. And hopefully is more reliable than Gillesphey.
