Daniel Kanu: One of Our Own who deserves success

    I know you’re not a serious poster and hate on every academy player, but Kanu is 20! Maybe league 2 is his level now (personally think he’s definitely league 1level), but he’s got years to develop into a championship player 

    Karlan Grant was also 20 when he went on loan to league 2 and scored goals, a year later he was playing in the premier league. So Kanu can definitely become a championship player over the next few years if he keeps doing well

    That's interesting if only for the fact that I'd assumed that he chose Walsall because he would have been more certain of a starting position.

    Northampton might be mid-table but no team has scored less than them (7) and their top scorer has just 2. Equally, no team has conceded less (8) and that is probably indicative of the way they are set up to play. 

    The argument for him going to Walsall might prove to be a sound one given that, if Kevin Nolan at Northampton didn't fancy him after a while or there was a change in manager then he might have feared ending up in the stands without the prospect of another loan in January (as in the case of Zak Mitchell at Colchester last season). 

    Starting every game and getting 20 plus goals at Walsall, who are top of League 2, will do him far more good than being in and out of a side like Northampton in League 1.

    Our DK is a smart cookie, I wouldn’t be surprised if he (and the club) decided that Walsall would play more attacking football which suits Kanu

    Doing wonders for his confidence. A good move for him so far. Also good rep for the club that our younger players can be successfil loans.

    Grant was a good player at 17 but lost his way for a bit , but he had more skill and pace than DK.  I suspect DK will be a slower burner but will have a good career - attitude is first class .  If Alfie May can become a goal scorer later on in his career, so can Daniel .

    That argument could have equally applied  to Walsall, if not more so after their second half of season collapse last season. The manager there (Sadler) was under real pressure to get a good start this season, whereas Nolan arguably over achieved by keeping them safe and had some credit in the bank going into this season.

    I'm pleased it's working out for DK so far in L2 but from what I've seen of him he'd be more than capable of scoring goals in league 1. If he is to be a serious option for us and really had the choice of L1 or L2, he should be backing himself and playing as high up the pyramid as he can.
