  • What is the max we really want them to get in this inning ?

    270?

Because of the poor light the only change may be Root with a couple of overs before stumps in 6 overs time.

LOL, Jimmy coming on to bowl !

    214.
  • Root comes on too bowl a couple of overs as predicted!
  • 219 for 7 at stumps after Hartley got the last over.

Enjoyable day of test cricket which is still the Dog's.
  • I wonder if there is an analysis compiled of the runs scored from the sweep/reverse sweep over the course of this Series what the score would be? Duckett and Pope were very good at playing it when the pitch allowed it to be played with a limited amount of risk but there have been any number of wickets lost as a result of playing it.

I think any lead could be the difference because it shouldn't be easier to bat on the 4th/5th day when India will almost certainly have to.

Is there an index anywhere listing the world's most obdurate batters? If so what metric underlies it?

I imagine it would be easy enough to pull up a list of those who've carried their bat most, which I'd like to see, but the likes of Tavare and Trott, to name a couple of the top of my head, didn't open for their country IIRC.

In the modern 'bazball' era where the demand for instant gratification is on trend, there seems little demand for batters with the ability to come in and take root (pardon the pun), but I think its a much underrated skill nowadays. This propensity for chasing ludicrous targets places no value on those heading out intent solely on preserving their wicket, which could prevent damaging defeats if executed well. Dropping the bat on good and bad balls rather than lashing out, in the interests of self preservation, should be encouraged depending on the game situation. I don't mind sitting watching a war of attrition play out over time, provided the suns out and the ale's drinkable!

16 degrees and it looks cool in India as I wake up to a frost !
50 partnership for Jurel and Kuldeep
    227/7

    Amazing Stat for Robinson:
77 no balls in 20 tests as he gets the siren, 2 balls in a row.

Second new ball taken and Robbo to bowl.

  • 240/7 and Jimmy Anderson comes on to bowl with the new ball.
  • I’m really sick of watching these 2 bat now. Come on England!
  • India trail by just 100 and still 3 wickets to take.
Jurel and Kuldeep accumulating singles with sensible batting.
    253/7
  • Kuldeep b Anderson 28
    253/8
The stubborn partnership of 76 is broken.

Jurel with a 50 from 96 balls and proving he can play the long game and at only 22 years old India may have a keeper.
  • We need to end this quickly, getting far too close for comfort
  • Jurel hits out at Bashir and it goes through Robinson's hands at mid wicket.

    Jurel then hits a 6 and a 4 in Bashir's next over.

    Could prove costly 279/8

    Robinson, what a useless c***
  • Needed that! Let’s get this wrapped up before lunch

    Deep LBW B Bashir 9

    5 wickets for Bashir

    293/9

Expect Fireworks from Jurel now as he wants his 100

  • Incredibly well deserved, he's bowled beautifully

Did you say that when he was batting or bowling ?
  • Fucking finally! Beauty from Hartley gets Jurel. England lead by 46
  • I’d have taken that lead after our first innings, but feels like they got 50 too many

Fine, fine, I take it back a bit. He's easy to dislike though

    Jurel B Hartley 90

    307 all out

India trail just by 46 runs and the game is in the balance.

The India spinners could cause havoc after seeing the inexperienced Bashir and Hartley take 8 wickets.
  • England slight favourites but I’d want a lead of 250 to fancy us here
  • Ashwin straight away for India. I feel a tad negative, hopefully the batsman don't.
  • Ollie Pairp
  • Pope back to being Pope
