ECB's notes in preparation for formal reply to CMS
Yes - btw what's IP? isn;t that summat to do wiv computers? 49% can't be a majority stake can it? The ECB retains the balance of power in all of English cricket - in no way at all ever influenced to any degree by any random bloke carrying a big bag of ready notes 🤑 and especially not if the flash yank shows up to Lord's in a copter - just by way of imaginary scenario ECB remains the absolute arbiter in all matters of "fairness" in English cricket, see also previous point We have been carefully considering the existing vast differences in Counties' ECB sourced incomes from a respectful distance for at least a decade and the paupers are all still here so what's that all about? 🤫 Surrey, Lancs and Middlesex are all delighted so I'm sure the rest must be too, more money won't change any of that Nope, we never have and none of us on the executive can ever afford to countenance anything that lunaticparanoid radical

“All the IPL owners are saying they will bid, but they will want some control for their cash,” a source involved in the sale process told the Guardian. “It’s essentially a big brand play for the IPL so we expect them to push for name changes, which will depend on the amount they have invested.”
Jofra Archer isn't in the final list for the IPL Auction. Might mean the ECB could release him to actually play red ball cricket for Sussex for the first few rounds of the CC.
I wonder how many football owners will get involved? Would Villa or Birminghams owners buy the Phoenix stake for example or Marinakis with the Trent Rockets. If the Southern Brave actually played any games at Hove I would have expected Tony Bloom involved.
I'm still confused at why 100 franchises can be worth the sums being mentioned, when it's just 3-4 weeks of the season, and the 100 has hardly been a massive success financially or in terms of profile.
That's not saying it's a flop or a disaster commercially, just that it feels like a bit of harmless hit and giggle in August, rather than something with real financial impact like the IPL.
If I was Surrey for example, what would I rather concentrate on, the 51% of the Invincibles that they will inherit, or 100% of their own side in the other competitions? Indeed from a private equity pov, that 49% doesn't sound very attractive, whereas I can see the financial attraction of the London Spirit, and from the MCC pov they're probably also looking at Middlesex being a bit of a basketcase...
Also, weren't the Invincibles meant to be a Surrey AND Kent based side, with the women originally meant to play at Beckenham, rather than an exclusively Surrey one with them getting the 51%?
Ditto Southern Brave was Hampshire AND Sussex, etc

The idea is you’re investing in what it could become, one of the reasons it hasn’t attracted big names is because the money isn’t amazing in franchise terms. Those wages will increase and the stars will arrive. If an IPL owner or two buy franchises we might even see some Indian players come over

From an Indian investment pov, I'd rather invest in a county though, which is what is happening with Hampshire.

The Hundred is losing money which is why the ECB need the investment. Viewing figures were 25% down this year. It will become a T20 comp to bring it into line with the rest of the world with Indian players allowed to play in it and will probably last for more than the current four weeks. There will probably be just the 10 franchises/counties and they will compete in that T20, the CC and the 50 over comp with the remaining 8 counties competing with the Minor Counties with calendar easier to manage as a result.
What I've posted on the Kent thread to the Women is the forerunner to this. It is rumoured that the Women in Tier 1 are on an average of £30k and with the Hundred plus sponsorship most will earn an average of £70k-£80k (that's not including what those that are in the England set up get). I dread to think, by comparison, what those playing in the Tier 2 counties will receive. That is why we are seeing that 40% of Surrey's squad came through the Kent system. No one should blame the women as it's a "no brainer" for them to move. Effectively, the ECB in making Kent a Tier 2 county, have undone all the hard work over the years of their coaches. Kent have gone from being very competitive to being second class citizens.

Would all Counties allow that though? And from a fan perspective I’d rather they had the chance to mess with The Hundred than with the county game
I believe that there is a reason why no other county has been able to follow Hampshire's lead. They are one of only three privately owned counties (the others being Durham and Northants) and also the ECB have blocked any new owners of counties from gaining automatic access to the 51 per cent but this made no difference to the talks with the new owners, GMR, because they began before the divvying up of the Hundred franchises was agreed between the ECB and counties.

South Africa are making a great effort in chasing that down at 10-4 (3)
