I saw Ray Wilson playing for Huddersfield. I also saw. Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters in the car park when Harry Redknapp brought his Portsmouth side to the Valley. Didn't Bobby Charlton play his first game at Charlton?
As an aside, on two or three occasions I had the opportunity he ALWAYS signed with pleasure. George Best was a great, an era where the likes we could relate to.
Peters, Stiles, Sir Bob pre 66 (debut 57 I think), Alan Ball 1980 for Blackpool, we had Nicola Berti on trial too. Played for the reserves at Welling. Sure Desailly and Lebouef graced the hallowed turf on a memorable day too
Charlton 0 Liverpool 4 - 1964 (I think). The year Liverpool walked Division 2. Lawrence in goal, Moran and Byrne full backs, Milne, Yeats and Leishman as half back line, Callaghan, Hunt, St John, Melia, A’Court forward line. @AddicksAddict. What a side for Div 2!
Ah. Thank you!! I think I’ve got the Liverpool team right, although I think Lawrence may have come later and Slater may have been in goal. I remember my Dad saying that you won’t see a better Division 2 team in your life. He was probably right.

I was fascinated, as a youngster, how he would go up for a corner, palm the ball with one hand and let the ball run down his arm to safety.
