Sat in the West Stand October 1983 a 1-0 win v Man City , my friend had cancer and was mascot or at least we went in the changing rooms and met the players before the game , can only really remember Killer . Kevin , RIP, passed away within a year, my sisters kept in contact with his sister and I got her and her kids tickets for the 2019 Play Off Finals .
I can recall sitting in the Jimmy Seed away stand for part of matches you could walk all the way around the ground early eighties this would have been.
Boro for Simonsens first game , Leicester with Lineker, Cardiff and for Chelsea when we lost 3-4 in a midweek game 1981 I think it was and my old man had a row with a racist Chelsea fan who was giving his own player , Paul Canoville shit ., although saying that I think the Chelsea fan was Italian and my old man called him a wop 🤦♂️ , two wrongs dad don’t make a right ! We went in to the Covered End second half and i remember shitting it when loads of Chelsea came and joined us in there .
What’s this ‘west’ stand crap ? I can’t recall it ever being referred to as that. In fact, there was none of this north, east, south and west stuff. I can only ever recall the four sides being referred to as the Covered End, the main stand, the open end and the big side terrace..
I would have been there when that picture was taken and in the covered end, probably somewhere further back from that point. We are/were are reasonably tall, I’m 6 foot 1 and two of the others were similar height so I guess if the cameraman had been a bit taller he would have captured us in his picture as well.
I eventually moved to the main stand but not until the next time around when we were in Division 3 when at the last game the previous season when we were relegated my dad asked me if we were getting a ticket for next season and I said yes but I’m not going to stand behind a fence to watch it and the only part of the ground that wasn’t fenced in was the main stand where the seats were.
Edit, there was also the two side of terrace either side of the main stand and possibly the Worthington sign bit by the covered end would have still been there

Shit view from that bit of terrace next to the covered end.
Me and me Dad used to stand at the front of the south terrace now Jimmy Seed. I was there for that Hales Walsall goal and remember it as my favourite goal for many years particularly as it only plays in my head but fits in with the comments on here. A sweeping move a wonderful volleyed finish. Used to move behind the covered end a lot when we attacked there in 2nd half. When the fences went up stood half way up the East but wonder if that generation of kids who would of stood at front from 79 just didn't go.

Pretty sure I’m in the ‘mosh’ down the front to the right - can see a couple of fellas I know near the back further to the left - think it was the Stoke game ?
I missed the “last” game at the Valley as stupidly swapped an office job for one in retail which meant working every Saturday. Started that in September 1985 so missed all the Saturday games that entire season. Didn’t miss much, only the first promotion to the top flight for 29 years!
Is that actually the Valley ? Why is there a fence behind the people at the back ? There was never a fence there. What is that small enclosed carpark with the building with windows in the corner & what looks like a small brick wall running off it. Where did this photo come from please ?
100% the valley @charltonbob, exactly the terrace I remember in the early to mid 80s, can't see the bearded man with a orange crash helmet who used to stand in front of me though, some nice pringle jumpers on display dates this one nicely.
