Doo Wah Diddy Alfie May song

edited October 2023 in General Charlton
Sorry if this has already been discussed but what are the lyrics to the Alfie May song sung on Tuesday? My daughter asked me what they were but that was the first time I had heard them.

  • Dumb diddy do ?
  • I don't know, but not a fan of these complicated player songs. Give me a "Super, super Clive" any day of the week.

I've been trying to piece it together too. I think the final bit is - "He looks good, he looks fine, Alfie May is on my mind and he's Charlton's number 9"
  • I like it, one that can roll on, on repeat for ages too
  • Christ, comes across as some chant cheerleaders would sing at an American football game.
  • Like it, but shouldn't it be..
    "And he's OUR number 9"...
    ..just an idea 🤔

Quite agree, I think we should be chanting to the tunes of sea shanties and Britten operas...

  • I used to be in the same class as Manfred Mann's daughter.
Me mate's going out with a girl whose previous fellow was the bass player in Manfred Mann's Earthband.
Oh no idea what the song says it's all too fast for us old blokes.

The Manfreds did a decent enough cover of the Exciters song.

  • What about when winning away we sing "An Apple a day takes the three points away"

Whatever happened to chants as simple as

    Ole Ole Ole Ole
    Ole Ole Ole Ole
    Alfie May May May
    Alfie May May May

What about before the match, all the players walk out except May, Red Red Robin stops and Brian Cole goes

'I say Alfie, you say!'  and we belt out 'May'

We do this repeatedly till it speeds up so much that Alfie and May no longer sound like words.

Then we all start the 'oooohhhhhhhhh'

Alfie May comes out doing a tunnel jump at full sprint

    This is truly horrendous.
agreed but I had to share the monstrosity in my mind

    Lands and breaks his ankle
  • Or just

    ALFIE ALFIE ALFIE!!!!!

    MAY MAY MAY!!!!

To the complex tune of "Oggy Oggy Oggy"

He fits the old Darren Bent song.

    Darren Bent Bent Bent.

    Alfie May, May, May.

Job done and no mumbling silly bollocks
