  • De Kock has just reached his 4th ton in six innings in this WC. England have, by comparison, just the one in total. 531 runs and counting.

    205-1 off 36
  • VDD reaches his ton too. His second of the tournament and hundred number 8 for SA.

    252-2 off 42
  • 357-4 off 50
  • The bad news for England here is that if NZ lose to SA we can't go out of the tournament until Saturday, at which point the Aussies get the opportunity to eliminate us if they win the game.
  • It's clear that Willey hadn't decided to retire from England before the WC. After all when the central contract announcement was made, Rob Key said

“It’s fair to say David Willey wasn’t best pleased, as you can understand, being the only one [in the World Cup squad] not to get a contract. It is bloody tough. We’d love to live in a world where you can just say we have a pot of extra cash and you can just give him [one] … because he’s coming out here for the World Cup. But some of those players who have just started and just come on to that contract system, they’re multi-format cricketers … we’re going into a time where we’ve got more multi-format cricketers than not."
  • Always wondered why Willey doesn't bat higher internationally. Scored one of the best hundreds I've ever seen for Northamptonshire in the Blast Vs Sussex when he looked every inch a top class opener. Think he opened for the Scorchers too in BBL.

I'm afraid that any notion that we were going to qualify for the semis is, sadly, misguided. We aren't just reliant on others - we've lost five out of six games. Yes we might deliver now but that will only be because the players have embarrassed themselves into performing.

The ECB and the players themselves were guilty of sleepwalking both in terms of prep and an inherent desire to win it. Look at the ones who have done best here, the likes of Malan, Topley, Willey, Brook and Atkinson - none of them were in the 2019 squad. Only Livingstone, of the rest, wasn't in the 2019 squad. Everything in 2019 was geared towards that ultimate goal. Here it just wasn't.
  • The teams winning the toss (assuming NZ lose here) will only have won 8 of the 34 matches
  • NZ 67-4 off 15.2

Not disputing that - it's just it would have been nice to go out by Afghanistan beating the Netherlands rather than by Australia beating us. The only thing for England to be focusing on in terms of qualification for anything is beating the Dutch to get into the Champions Trophy.

  • NZ 167 all out and SA win by 190 runs. Although it's not mathematically certain, SA have now joined India in the semis.
  • India finish on 357-8 against SL

Gill (92), Kohli (88) and Iyer (82) all failed to convert

Madushanka finished with 5-80 and is now the leading wicket taker in the comp with 18

At 2-3 and chasing 358, I'm not sure that I fancy SL's chances. All three ducks and SL have yet to get a run off the bat.
  • Make that 3-4

    Siraj has 3-0
  • SL fans living that 'oh shit, here we go again' meme right now

The lowest ever first Power Play in WC history is Pakistan's 14-2 against Zimbabwe in 2015 and the Canada's 14-3, also against Zimbabwe in 2011. SL are currently 12-4 off 8 overs.
  • Make that 14-5

Asalanka out for a single off 24 balls
  • And they still managed to comfortably beat England  :D
  • THE worst PP in WC history at 14-6 off 10 overs

  • The six players to depart managed two runs between them off 41 balls
  • Don't know what they would have done without the old stalwart Angelo Matthews who is currently 10* out of 17-6
  • Sri Lanka 21 for 6, chasing 358. You wonder why two Indian batsmen needed to get run out in the last over, chasing a bigger score. It says on the BBC website, 21 for 6: Drinks. I should think the Sri Lankans do need a few drinks.

Extras has a good chance of top scoring for Sri Lanka here, scored 9 of their 21 so far.
  • 22-7

    Shami 3-1

  • Matthews (11*) and extras (9) have all but two of SL's runs between them
  • 29-8

    Shami 4-1

They're batting like they've already had a few
  • Shami was left out of the first three matches. He currently has 14 wickets in the three he has played in.

At least SL are unlikely to regret their decision to field!
