Didn’t we also get BWP very cheaply as Plymouth were struggling financially?
I hope they get a proper owner soon but we shouldn’t avoid signing good players from them if they’re available in January. Not saying we should put in lowball offers but I don’t see an issue with a fair offer.
I feel sorry for them but if that really is them back to stage one of a takeover then some low ball offers for Tyler Bindon, Lewis Wing and Michael Stickland should be considered. They wouldn't be able to play until Jan of course and so probably wouldn't accept a move themselves but you can only ask.
Really not a fan of these kind of posts. I'd prefer we left them well alone. When we were going through hell under Roland and co there were other clubs posting the same about our players and it's shite fan solidarity. Let's hope they get out of the mess they're in asap and avoid a feeding frenzy on the carcass of their club.
This, would find it completely classless if we went down that route
Better to leave them to be unemployed? It's the players fault and I couldn't blame any of them for getting out asap.
John Humphrey told me a nice little story about that transfer;
After a few months of being at Charlton, he went in to Lennie about a pay-rise. There was the usual haggling and when it was all settled, JH said to Lennie something along the lines of "Remember, you got a great deal only having to pay £60 Grand for me" Lennie said, "Yeah....Docherty wanted £200 (thousand) but I told him I thought you were only worth £15 (thousand)!".....which was the going rate for a 4th Division full-back at the time!
And so, we got John Humphrey for only £60,000 when even then he was worth about £250,000. I couldn't believe it when we signed him, as he was already good enough for the First Division. At that point, I knew we were properly serious about promotion.

I hope they get out of the mess and find a good owner soon, but if they have players who would strengthen our team and are available and willing to sign for us then i have no issue with it.
Because if we don't move for them, you can bet your life another club will, and our priority should always be having the best squad we can.
I don’t want to see any club, well almost any club struggling with their very future. We’ve experienced it and it’s effing awful. For whatever reasons and no doubt they are complex, Reading find themselves needing to raise money. They have assets that can be sold and inevitably, unless there’s a new buyer very soon they’ll have to cash in some chips. It’s sad but it’s just how it is. It’s not predatory to look at who is available if Reading are making them available out of need.

We did it Ipswich, in what feels like a lifetime ago, when we got first Hermann and then Matt Holland. Hermann was even purchased after transfer deadline day and so couldn't play a competitive game until the following season. Not saying I agree with it, just that we have precedent for it.
Yep, and look at all the Ipswich dross karma has sent our way recently becaue of it.

I might have missed something but how is it the players’ fault?

Relatively speaking, isn’t this what happens virtually every time a bigger club catches the eye of a player from a smaller club? Knowing the smaller club is (usually) on the bones of their arse, the bigger club puts in a low speculative offer.
Not talking about big name clubs and big name players here, just between the likes of us and Birmingham, for example.

Does anyone know people like this in the real world?

Clearly a typo
