MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic Vs Fleetwood Town : Saturday 2nd September 2023 : KO 3:00pm

So here we are, The first game after the window has slammed shut, and also of course the first game without a permanent manager...
Pearce takes the reigns in his first, and maybe only game we will see on that one, as caretaker manager.
Sort of feel for Pearce being thrown into the ring, but have every confidence that he will want to put his mark onto this game and hopefully get the lads geed up for what really is a must win against a team just two points and four places behind us.
Not even looking in that direction today are we...Come on you Reds, get us moving in the right direction for a change...⬆

A warm welcome to The Valley for the new comers

So anyway, here we go..

Jason Pearce makes three changes, while Miles Leaburn is named wiinhin the matchday squad for the first time this season after returning from an ankle injury.

The predicted 4-3-3 formation will see a back four of Nathan Asiimwe, Hector, Lloyd Jones and Tayo Edun sit in front of goalkeeper Harry Isted.

Chem Campbell will join a midfield duo of Karoy Anderson and skipper George Dobson, with Tyreece Campbell, Alfie May and Corey Blackett-Taylor completing Charlton’s front line.

Lucas Ness and Daniel Kanu, who both started at Oxford United last weekend, join Leaburn, Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Terell Thomas, Terry Taylor and Charlie Kirk on the bench.

Charlton: Isted; Asiimwe, Jones, Hector, Edun; Dobson (c), Anderson, C.Campbell; T.Campbell, May, Blackett-Taylor

Substitutes: Maynard-Brewer, Ness, Thomas, Leaburn, Taylor, Kirk, Kanu

  • Possibly 4.2.3.1 if so, very happy.
  • Quite like that lineup, great to see Leaburn back on the bench. Would prefer Taylor to Anderson but not much you can do if he isn't match fit. Stockley starts for them after injury concerns ..
  • Nah surely 4-3-3. Good to see Tyreece and Miles back. Kirk makes the bench. With the new four missing plus Fraser, Camera, Aneke to come back we at least now have the numbers. Whether we have the quality is another issue.
  • Let's hope we have plenty of the ball because, bar Dobson, that midfield isn't winning it back!
  • What’s happened to Camara. Another random injury that never goes away?
  • Fleetwood playing games saying Stockley was injured.
  • 4231 it looks to me. Or maybe more of a traditional 442 with Chem up top with May?
  • Pleasantly surprised to see Leaburn on the bench already. Hopefully we aren’t rushing him back and risking further injury unnecessarily. Midfield looks too attacking but hopefully it works.

My concern as well. Surely he should have featured for the U21s first?

He was missing last weekend so has definitely been injured.

  • It'll be fascinating how Kirk plays if he comes on, now that he knows we're stuck with each other until January...
  • Good Luck Pearcy.
  • Whatever it is I like having 2 wingers on the pitch. Let's see if May can lead the line on his own.
  • No more 3-5-2
    Hurrah
    Home win
  • No hard rock on CharltonTv today. Chill vibes!
  • I would guess 4-2-3-1. Sensible
  • Hasn't Leaburn not long returned to training ? Bit worrying he's on the bench so quickly, yes we all want him back asap but don't want him breaking down again.  :o
  • Walk from the shops half one so noticeably quieter than normal. Fear for a dire crowd today. Fleetwood currently have more players than fans in the ground
  • Ex academy player Junior Quitirna starting for Fleetwood. Stockley also starting.

Really hope we turn up today. 3 points desperately needed.
  • Agree with Brownie and Curbs, total cock up regarding getting rid of Dean without having someone lined up at least, anyway water under the bridge, and at least we have two weeks off after this game to get it done...hopefully...

  • Looking at that line up, there really is no excuse for not winning.
  • I predict a goal fest, not sure who for though.

Minto: who would you want to bring in?

Brown: someone “a bit Bowyer”, doesn’t have to be Bow but someone who’s principled and strong at the top

Curbs: someone with experience at the level

Going to be one to watch out for, wasn't surprised when he was let go as never really got an opportunity, but must have something to be still at this level.
  • Good chat with Jason, and says 4-3-3, expecting Fleetwood to line up 3-5-2, sounds up for it, and we need to back him today...

Described as a front 4 by Pearce, Chem a 10 roaming so closer to the 4231 look I'd guess
  • Good luck Jason ..
  • Pearce says the formation is 4-3-3 but then describes a 4-2-3-1 with Dobson and Anderson sitting and Chem Campbell in behind Alfie May. :-)

With the train strike numbers were always going to be down today
  • Pearce has said 4 3 3.

Then went through the team in a 4 2 1 3 set up.
