  • Yeah it does seem he never really had a fair pop, good luck to the lad.
  • Never given a proper chance by Jones and when he was he proved he deserved a place in the team .
All I can think is that he didn’t train well or had a fitness issue because I’d have definitely kept him.
I think either explanations are possible, as well as Jones not rating certain areas of his game. We know he likes aggression and athleticism, and Taylor doesn’t stand out in those areas.

Another reason might be that he’s paid the salary of a regular and we don’t want that used on a squad player.

Possibly any combination of the above.

    Obviously nowhere then
You have to be contributing to the Charlton Life Nathan Jones Telepathy Thread for that sort of information.
  • Sad to see him go as I thought he did well when he played . Obviously NJ didn’t think so

It's disappointing but not wholly surprising, feels like NJ has never rated him and only played him because Coventry was injured. Does leave us with no cover for Cov, would have to possibly play REG or Zach Mitchell there unless NJ promoted Kedwell?
I think Docherty would play there and then Anderson or Campbell would come into the team
That’s something to be excited about .  I think Jones favouring his mate Campbell says it all
You mean the "mate" who has played all of 15 minutes in the last 8 games? - The player with Championship experience that wasnt called on to play a single minute against a Championship side in the FA Cup just a few days ago... that "mate"

Its more like we're stuck with Campbell unless someone from Scotland tries to buy him, or if Luton recall him from the loan because they want to play him in games... We no doubt cant cancel the loan agreement ourselves.

I mean Allan Campbell is shite, but imagine his experience means he's still a better option that the likes of Enslin, given that many on here believe that Karoy Anderson should be out on loan, so if he's not ready, I cant imagine our U21s will be a better option themselves.
Yes - his mate that’s always on the bench and that we are wasting wages on .

So really anyone who's not in the 11 is a waste of wages. How very Roland of you

If he's his mate... Why isn't he playing him? - Odd friendship
  • The whole “Jones doesn’t fancy x” is getting weird to me. That’s now the third player that fans can objectively see is decent and should at least be part of the squad, that Jones apparently doesn’t rate.

May, Taylor, who’s the other one?
  • I liked Taylor, decent player.  But I think he is a bit too slow and a bit too soft to play top end of L1.  Good luck to him at Northampton though.

Heard from someone who works at another club (not Northampton) that we wanted 100% of Taylor’s wages paid, so they believe it’s likely Northampton are paying 80-100%.

A Northampton fan has said they believe they’ve missed out on targets to high paying L2 clubs, so it seems believable that they’re paying most or all of Taylor’s wages.

One of them has said there have been L2 signings this month in which players are being paid around £5k - that gives a good idea just how much is being spent at they level, never mind in L1.
Surely there aren't many league 2 clubs paying players 5k a week?

Maybe Salford who have their famous owners and just had a lucrative cup tie at Man City, but who else?

Gillingham & Carlisle both have quite wealthy US owners I believe and Carlisle have been splashing the cash a bit this January

Would expect MK Dons to have a large wage bill for that level too.

Not sure, "a fair few L2 signings" being on that sort of money was how it was described. I would guess that means more than one club but that's only how I read that comment.
  • Few times I've seen him live he was no better or worse than any other player. Probably needs to get away from us permanently to show his worth as Jones obviously doesn't rate him

No, just that it makes no sense to be prioritising Campbell over Taylor , when Taylor is our player and objectively 99% of our fans would say is better than Campbell .  I don’t have faith in Jones; my view only , I’m sure .

Probably we can’t send Campbell back, it’s up to Luton to find a team for him.

Bizarre. Along with letting May go (although not on the same level), I’m not sure we can trust the player judgement of Jones and Scott.
I certainly don't think it's anything close honestly. He has a lot of good qualities for sure but he's just not particularly well suited for Jones' style/system. Even when we play badly I can't honestly see much where you could honestly see Taylor making much difference (where May absolutely would with his goals).

Good player, will definitely do well but Charlton under NJ is the wrong club at the wrong time for him sadly. If it means we can get a more suitable player in, this move makes sense.
    Which is what I said.
