I think dead ball assists account for between a quarter and a third of goals in a match. TT has to start. Goal today was from a training ground corner.
Played well overall, excellent set pieces and positive use of the ball. Felt we lacked some bite with him playing instead of Coventry though. Maybe we keep him in and replace A Campbell next game?
i saw enough to think he's definitely worth persevering with - a far better 'baller' than most of our midfield options and if he can get a run of games, could become a key player
He was good today, dangerous set pieces other than 2 poor ones. I actually felt like we had a chance of scoring from a corner for the first time in god knows how long.
Obviously not quite match fit and was struggling towards the end but I’d look to get him and Coventry in the side together.
Was really good today, clearly flagging at the end but to be expected. Now we're back to the "Can CC and TT play together?" debate. Personally, I think at the base of a box they can. Doc might even look better up there next to Anderson, his physicality would suit that role
Docherty has looked poor further forward. I’d just leave him out and play Berry
In a midfield 3 I would agree, in the box we play you want someone aggressive who presses relentlessly and that isn’t Berry
Second half today showed the difference Berry makes, he uses the ball so much better than any of the others. Plus he has a goal threat, unlike any of the others. We can’t rely on the strikers to score all our goals

Berry was good today but so often these things are about game state. When he starts he’s too passive and our midfield lacks energy. Maybe being in a 4 with Anderson next to him would help but I’m not convinced it would work
Anderson more important than people think. Surely A Campbell is the one to make way on Tuesday.
Agree, he has a mistake in him but he leads the press and makes things happen. He gets a lot of stick but it's no accident that he's kept out the likes of Berry and TT this year.
With the new double pivot I love the idea of TT and CC next to each other with Berry and Anderson further forward. Jones deserves credit for taking this team from hoof ball to football in only a couple of weeks. Now the next step is getting your two best ball playing midfielders in the team.
Also agree with NabySarr that Docherty hasn't looked as good further forward. He said one of the reasons he signed here is that Jones wanted to play him further forward. He's looked his best in holding roles so I think we see why that's where other teams wanted him. Puts in a shift but a lot of huff and puff without a lot of quality so far.
Also, loved TT today until he tired, which was always going to happen. But those dead balls, woof. Don't think he'll start Tuesday as I think he's started one game in the last calendar year (Cambridge). But showed his quality today. He really is a gives it and gets it back type with a range of passing. Also made a crucial block from a shot on the corner of the box.
He was our best player today, closely followed by Leaburn and TC. More or less all of the positive play came through him, and he really grew into the game.
As for the people who I've seen say it's either him or Coventry, I don't understand the logic. They look like the two most technically gifted midfielders at the club, and Coventry has proven he can be our anchor, they should both start next game, not a case of one or the other. Both are better than Berry, Docherty, Campbell and Anderson, so start both. That simple imo.
Disappointed with the result but much better to be complaining about missed chances/playing well than the dross earlier in the season. Finishing games well too

Wrong thread! Terry Taylor played well would like to see him play more. 1 week ban for quoting yourself? Mods gets involved

Well done TT, hope to see more.
I agree, but think it’s unlikely we see it on Tuesday given Taylor looked knackered at the end. Hopefully have both starting on Saturday
Both Taylor and Karoy looked pretty tired towards the end of the game yesterday. Ironically one from having played too little in recent weeks and one from having played (international duty) too much. Forgive me but I can’t see the glaring difference between Taylor and Coventry. What am I missing?

No glaring difference, but Coventry has a hell of an engine and can get all around the pitch. On the ball very little difference and Taylor may even be a bit brighter with the forward balls, but off the ball Coventry is probably our best player (Anderson isn't far off)

set pieces
Well yes.
Sorry @Leuth but yesterday Taylor clocked up a series of better set pieces in a match than Coventry has had all season. There was a reason Coventry was previously taken off corners and replaced by Edwards. I agree that Coventry might have an edge over Taylor in industriousness.
Saying 'set pieces' as a difference between two players is a bit ridiculous really, as only one of the 11 on the field is required to take them, but all 11 (10 outfield) are required to show the virtues of football I've discussed. Coventry is clearly more adept than Taylor at some of the more physical aspects of football, but there's clearly room for both of them in our side imo
Yes, a good point. Talking of set pieces, with Southend United on the horizon, and the silly buggers cup games to come, I hope we are practicing penalties and have identified at least five credible penalty takers.
I would seriously consider a box midfield with Taylor and Coventry at the base with T Campbell and Karoy more advanced. Allows Campbell to drift wide to do what he does on the wing with both Godden and Leaburn in the box to get on the end of crosses. Also plays to Karoy strength of pressing and mitigates his tendency to turn the ball over when there are two midfielders behind him.
Good interview from Jones. I was very, very against us playing Taylor and Coventry together in the 352 but as the two deeper players in the box midfield I'm much more comfortable. Docherty worked hard against Birmingham but he's still trying to find his spot and it would be interesting to see us try him further forward with Anderson. ACampbell was poor yesterday but good against Birmingham so that spot is still up for grabs and I'd like to think that bit of competition will help.

I like this. I think in games against poor opposition where we have more of the ball you could even start Berry instead of Anderson, but probably need his energy in tougher games

I'd use Doherty at a holding midfield player now

Wonder if it was some sort of "keep that up and you're be in the managers plans" sort of pep talk?
