Genuine question, Benny Hill gags aside, Have we got a serious scouting network?2

Sorry, couldn't resist.2 -

It was one of things he said needed to be bigger, wider and better.4 -
Seem to remember this got cut down during the Roland era, as the network was going to produce the goods.Mendonca In Asdas said:Genuine question, Benny Hill gags aside, Have we got a serious scouting network?2 -
There were times when it sounded like Gallen was almost working on his own10

I wouldn't say that is too far from the mark, and I believe the direction they would go, but Charlton being the flagship of it. Charlie has been the public figure, but is he the brains behind it and the power, I am not so sure!fenaddick said:
We haven’t but I guess that’s because Lenegan works for GFP not CAFC. Still think that in the next 5 years GFP will buy a team somewhere like Holland or a lower division team in France or Spain, maybe even Asia given the ownership connection. Lenegan will then oversee the sporting operation of the whole group to make sure strategy is similar.MarcusH26 said:Have we ever heard publicly from Lenagan if he has so much say on things? Seems a bit odd to have a Sporting Director and a Technical Director as I'd have thought there would have been quite a bit of crossover in terms of who's responsible for what.
Hopefully NJ being appointed as manager and not head coach takes out a lot of the ambiguity surrounding who's responsible for what.
Roland spectacularly failed with the multi club model so CAFC fans are rightfully sceptical but it can work when done correct. CAFC need to be a lot more successful for it to work though, you need to be top end Championship minimum
Your friend ‘ Charlie ‘ . I hope you are getting some airline tickets or discount off the season tickets for all this PR deflection & muddying of the water 🤞6 -
Yes, I get regular meals at Burj Al Arab on the clubs expenses, along with private jet to every single game! Oh he also allows me to have the final say on everything that happens! Along with the odd bit of 'Charlie'...vff said:DubaiCAFC said:

So a real ‘ proper Charlie’ then 💫 Good for you Dubai, glad that you are getting some ‘hospitality’ alongside the retainer.DubaiCAFC said:

Obviously in Scott's (or a new owner's) best interests to frame the issue that way... on the other hand it does seem entirely believable given the combination of the Duchatalet "centralised" scouting setup, the Southall "super deal phone" years, and the Sandgaard nepotism model.Henry Irving said:

Thank you Henry, it would be good for the club to communicate how they have improved it, especially with season ticket sales on the horizon, I can’t believe fans are going to want to put up with this going forwards, it’s a right old mess.Henry Irving said:

One difference between Lenegan and Scott is that Lenegan has a small financial stake whereas Scott is just a hired hand. If I recall rightly Lenegan and Methven were co-operating before the consortium came together. So to some extent Lenegan can specify his own role and have his say beyond that role too, even if only informally. In other words, @DubaiCAFC is right to remind us of his existence.0
-
Sadly Lenagan has literally no football experience, apart from being the son of a rich bloke that bought Oxford. He is also a shit actor but pays for his roles in films.
So, with him having a say and Andy Scott "scouting" the players, we literally stand no effin' chance of improving much.....2 -
almost as if I didn't mention himPragueAddick said:One difference between Lenegan and Scott is that Lenegan has a small financial stake whereas Scott is just a hired hand. It would be unfair to say playing with Edun and Watson is like starting with 9 men but I think you can dock half a man off each and say it is like playing with 10 men.0

Still the tail wagging the dog. I find it unlikely that these small shareholders have any authority in the end, if the main ones move against them.PragueAddick said:One difference between Lenegan and Scott is that Lenegan has a small financial stake whereas Scott is just a hired hand. How difficult do you think it wouid be for the main players to walk away?Airman Brown said:

It's my main fear that Methven and co will be left holding the baby here.
The appointment of Jones and word that the tail was bypassed by the main players to get their man eased my fears a bit. But I'm still a bit concerned.1 -
Personally think we got more chance of the main players going all in, then walking away and losing their investmentcarly burn said:

More likely (to me) that Methven and Co will be removed from the SMT and given token positions or even just removed entirely.carly burn said:

The main players probably wouldn't go through with buying in first place if they were going yo just give up and write it off that soon. Or at least will want more back than they'd get by trying to sell in L2.1 -

Removed entirely is my guess.
and not soon enough.5 -
Where is Methven anyway? Distinct lack of Methven around the interweb since we've been spiraling faster down the plug hole...2

Get rid of both, ask Curbs to run the club! Problem solved!0

Honestly believe the January transfer window has sent us down.
We desperately needed some creativity in the middle and we signed defensive midfielders instead.
Desperately needed a winger but forcing this 3-5-2 instead which we have never shown we can perform with.7 -
Someone's enjoying this thread more than most!

Should be an interesting power struggle between Scott and Jones, if Jones gets his way and Dobson signs a new long term deal against Scott's wish, i'd hope and expect Scott's days to be numbered, (which they should be regardless because of his two horrific transfer windows)7

Your friend ‘ Charlie ‘ . I hope you are getting some airline tickets or discount off the season tickets for all this PR deflection & muddying of the water 🤞New sets of wheels in the car park, powerpoints that promise glorious futures don't match up to reality, crap Jan transfer windows and dodgy SMTs and hangers on.Charlton supporters been there and seen that.It would be great if you could run something by 'Charlie'.To symbolise a new beginning with Nathan Jones and Paul Hart - In the centre circle before the next home game - could 'Charlie' burn a pair of his pink trousers, with their strategy plan (pretty thin that one), suggesty using Andy Scott's powerpoints as fuel and add the 352 formation too. Then 'Charlie' make a proper and solemn promise that the SMT will hand over control of the footballing side with identifying new players and team formation to Nathan Jones and Paul Hart. The SMT can then count paper clips (drawing a wage) or whatever expertise they have.It would really encourage Chartlon supporters & the team for survival in League One and future success. Cheers.

Wonder if Newcastle would be interested when Ashworth goes to Man United 🤣1
