SKY Stream.

  • Silly question time  - what is the difference to being able to "record" to being able to "add to playlist" ?

You cannot record live programming……but can add items to a playlist to watch later from a library of ‘on demand’ content.

My question would be what percentage of live programming is also available to watch on demand?
  • I am considering Sky Stream - can anyone give a more current appraisal of the quality ? Thanks.
I feel it’s a better picture and generally not too different from sky q. Change the sound setting as well when you get it as the default setting can make the picture look out of sync.
Works like the puck you get with Sky Glass to see content on a separate smart tv.

Playlist is not as intuitive as the old fashioned save and record options. Programmes aren't always immediately available after they finish, there's a delay before uploaded to Playlist. If you watch live programme from start and pause you may find it's disappeared when you try and resume, even if it's scheduled to be saved to Playlist.

    Called progress I guess.
  • Thanks everyone

I haven't found many things yet that I miss live and cannot find on catch-up. One of them is IndyCar racing as the catch up is only ever highlights, and I suspect for lengthier sports programmes that might be similar (like The Open, Wimbledon and Test cricket probably only has highlights instead of the full rerun) but all "normal" programming I've been able to find

It's absolutely fine had it for a year now. Works pretty much like sky plus (it has catch up TV etc. UHD, series link) the only downside is you can't "record" something HOWEVER if you add it to your playlist, it will have it ready for you to watch at any time. It's also great for live sports as there's an option to watch live if halfway through, or start from the beginning (so you can watch the F1 an hour or so behind if need be and pretend it's live)

I have it in the living room with 2 extra pucks in the bedroom and spare room. Only thing to know is the main device can do UHD but the pucks only have HD capability

The pucks do 4k. I know the older Sky Q mini boxes don't and they are barely HD, 720.
I dont pay for the netflix as its included in the Sky package but annoyingly I just get HD.
  • Fair enough, I looked into the settings again and they had defaulted to 1080 but I've managed to change it to 2160 now

Having recently moved back to the UK, I now have a Sky Stream and i'm incredibly disappointed with it. The picture quality is excellent but the box is so glitchy. It freezes up on the TV guide frequently, the picture distorts if you pause live TV then resume it, and most annoyingly, it wont let you skip adverts (and sometimes bugs out after watching ads and makes you watch them again!)

I can't blame the internet as the Stream is hard wired into a 500mbps fibre connection.

    1) Has anyone reverted back to Sky Q after having a stream
    2) Are any of these issues Sky issues (i.e. Am I blaming the Stream unnecessarily?)

    We always play like that.
  • Ok, can someone talk me through this playlist stuff

moving house and might have to move from Virgin to Sky.

Now, we would be popping out for a meal when we notice a new series of (for example) silent witness is starting tonight. With Virgin we just go into the planner and press record.

What happens with Sky stream? Do we have to add the programme to the playlist ? Do we have to search and watch it the iplayer, can we just quickly
click a button and it will be there for us when we get home ?

  • Is there any way I'm going to be able to watch next Saturday's match from about 2pm on Sky? Can anyone help with that? I've got Sky Q
  • I heard years ago (on a BT course) that Sky would ultimately like to move away from satellite transmissions.

Satellites are expensive, they drift off course over time and essentially are all eggs in one basket.
  • Sky have tried and suceeded in selling Sky Stream to my mum twice. We have had to ring them and cancel and complain at their sales tactics twice. She is on Sky Q which she knows how to use. That is a big factor for older people. BTW, Virgin are a useless company in terms of customer service but I really like their 360 box and broadband. I love the speech feature, it is genuinely useful.

Assuming the game is still in play when you click on the match, it should give you the option to watch live or from the start.
