Note that the only first class grounds where play is currently taking place are Lords, The Oval, Headingly, Old Trafford & the Ageas Bowl.

Hmm, what's the difference between these & " the rest" ?
I think that the likes of current and former England batsmen, Rory Burns and Ollie Pope, had rather hoped that there was no play at The Oval. Michael Atherton described the Lancs opening attack as the slowest that he has seen for the County and the fact that Surrey are 57-3 says all we need to know about how helpful conditions are to military medium bowlers. Where's Darren Stevens when we need him?

Kent have won the toss and elected to bowl. No surprise there given the conditions. Just one problem - more rain has delayed the start.

We're up and running. First ball of the season, bowled by Quinn, is a boundary. Hope that isn't a sign of things to come.

Not at the Oval, its at Old Trafford.

Looking at that Northants lineup, you'd expect them to be Div 1 strugglers

A wicket each to Hogan, Quinn, Stewart & Evison - sounds like a firm of solicitors!

I see Rehan Ahmed is in the Leics side against Yorks. Bet he wish he wasn't 1-0-22-0 made up of: no ball 6, 4, dot, 4, 2, 2, 4

    62-5

    A great C & B from Stewart

Vasconcelos, currently on 29*, might end up carrying his bat at this rate

3rd wicket to Stewart. McManus the victim

The sort of conditions and opposition who make our rather thin looking bowling lineup look like the 1984 Windies quartet!

    89-7

Hogan traps Vasconcelos LBW for 39 - the only Northants bat in double figures to date

Did play close early? Either way, good to not bat today as I imagine conditions will be slightly easier tomorrow

Nice surprise to come home to after an afternoon out !

    90-8

A second wicket to Quinn. I was rather hoping that, with it being a brighter day, the bowling conditions would become a bit more unfriendly!

    117-9

A third wicket to Quinn and third catch to Billings

Brother just sent a text from the St Lawrence ground that it's £1 to get in today.
Good PR early in the season but a surprise on a Good Friday.
I assume it's only for today other wise season ticket holders may wonder about pricing 🤔

Bro staying with Parents who only live 300 yards away. I'm trying to get them to sell house and move into the flats overlooking the ground. Mum said too many big hitters will damage windows !
Bless her cotton socks; just catch the ball !

So Gilchrist is injured for the game starting tomorrow. As a result we have announced an extremely strong, on paper, batting line up with, potentially, Billings, DBD, Evison at 6, 7 or 8 and Stewart at 9. The question is, do we have enough fire power to bowl Northants out? Evison and DBD each have 22 First Class wickets and with the wicket unlikely to help our part time spinners, the pressure will be on Quinn, Hogan and Stewart to perform.

Moving forward we will have to find a way of introducing that 4th front line bowler. We got away with it in these conditions and the three bowlers mentioned picking up all bar one of the wickets (Evison's wicket was a leg stump half volley clipped to Compton at midwicket). Whether that is Linde or another seamer we cannot hope to succeed with this attack in less seam friendly conditions especially with the 41 year old Hogan was going at 5 an over.

Think we will see a vast contrast of batting styles now - Crawley playing Bazball and Compton doing what he does best and that is occupying the crease. Hopefully, one will complement the other.

    34-0 off 16

    Crawley 9* (42)
    Compton 23* (54)

Crawley playing more like Compton than Compton. Which is great to see in these conditions. Solid base and kick on when the bowlers are knackered!
