Garner has spoke a lot about really wanting to bring the team and the supporters closer together. He recognises that this is a key element to success, especially when he hasn’t got all the tools he needs. Well, I’ve got to say the spirit, the character, the fight and passion that came on and off the field today could well be a catalyst. We have a lot going on at the moment that’s not positive, but if we are to be successful despite that, we need that togetherness Garner has spoken of. I hope this is just what everyone needed and we use this today to kick on.
I have never experienced a game like that before and it was so fitting that Dobson, whilst wearing the armband, scored at the death in front of the Covered End. I just wish more were in the ground to see and experience it.

I watched the stream and the drama at the end felt like something from a Curbishley era game in the early 2000s.
Stormed out when Ipswich scored their fourth. It was too much!
Heard our third just outside the club shop, and what sounded like Ipswich’s fifth in Floyd Rd. Everyone thought the same, until someone saw on his phone that it was us who scored.
Gutted to have missed it. Aaaagh!!

I didn’t walk out in disgust after their fourth goal, I walked out because I didn’t want to see us losing after the great fightback and the awful refereeing and the annoying Ipswich fans who almost literally only sing when they’re winning. I was more excited after our second goal than I have been since the ‘19 playoff final. I’m thrilled that we got it back to 4-4 and would have loved to have been there to see it, but that’s life. 👍
Watching the highlights back, and it made me think….How much better is football without VAR? Any spontaneity and fun would be sapped out of those ten minutes with that nonsense going on in the background.
What an extraordinary and marvellous end to the game ! The last time I recall seeing anything remotely similar was when Jason Lee and Carl Leaburn scored two extremely late goals in 1997 to secure a 4-4 draw against, ironically, Norwich City. The bizarre and almost surreal nature of the latter stages today was reinforced by Ed Sheeran posing for selfies with fans outside an executive box just behind us in the Alan Curbishley Stand.
We were utterly toothless in the first half and I think that Stockley's tame effort when the Ipswich goalie misplaced a pass out from the back (the first of many cock ups by Walton) was our only attempt on goal. Ipswich were competent and muscular, as opposed to particularly impressive, but they had more territory than us and a succession of corners, taking the lead from one just before half time. It's difficult for goalies in packed 6-yard boxes, but I think that they really do have to command that area and that I think that Wollacott should be coming for a cross 4 yards out from his goal line.
The referee's award of a free kick following Dobbo's perfectly good tackle led to the second goal, although we failed to react to the initial clearance and Wollacott looked to be slow off his line to try and intercept the resulting cross, leading to another close range header and goal. Things looked grim at that stage but the introduction of Chuks Aneke and Corey-Blackett-Taylor totally transformed the game, finally giving the Ipswich defenders something to worry about. Prior to that, they had enjoyed a very relaxing afternoon in the sun, against the slow and labouring Stockley and Charlie Kirk, who was doing his all too regular disappearing act. Chuks' barnstorming run down the right wing led to Rak-Sakyi's goal and Walton's inept spillage of Blackett-Taylor's shot presented Morgan with the equaliser on a plate, although credit to Albie for following in the shot.
The team had shown great character to get back on terms but, as the game entered its final stages, we started to look very fatigued. Morsey was seeing a lot of the ball and, from his pass, Lapado was allowed far too much space by Lavelle to turn and place a low strike into the bottom corner. Morsey's fourth goal - with both central defenders backing off and allowing him far too much time - looked to be an irrelevance until our miraculous two goal salvo. The goals followed two good crosses from Albie Morgan and it was entirely fitting that Dobbo - who had a magnificent game throughout - got the equaliser after Walton let his header loop in under the bar.
Even allowing for the losses of O'Connell and Egbo to injury, we were poor defensively and Jojo Wollacott had a poor game by his high standards. We competed reasonably well in midfield but were totally powder puff up front prior to the introduction of Chuks and Corey for the hopelessly ineffective Stockley and Kirk. Rak-Sakyi was heavily marked - and fouled by an Ipswich team well-schooled in the dark arts - and Jes is far more effective when running at defenders with the ball than when playing as a supplementary striker.
Still, a great result in the circumstances and a finale that will live long in the memory. In a moment of true serendipity, the Ipswich coach pulled out just as a number of our supporters were leaving the North Stand Bar and the assembled company reminded them that, despite being 4-2 up, they had (ahem) rather made a hash of things.
Regrettably, the injuries and suspensions are starting to pile up, with Leaburn, DJ, O'Connell and Egbo all now sidelined and Inniss and (presumably) Clare now suspended for the next game. Let's hope that the injuries to O'Connell and Egbo aren't serious, as we're already down to the bare bones.
A final word about the referee, who I thought was a total arse. His "look at me approach" grated from the first few minutes and he seemed to be under the impression that we were there to watch him, rather than the football, He was inconsistent with his yellow cards and then got the big decision leading to their second goal wrong. I hope I never have to endure the pompous little martinet again.
I cant see it's been added but on top of a crazy game, there was the international Addick doing the half way line cross bar challenge who whilst waiting his turn decided to milk the applause from the crowd and do wanker signs to the Ipswich fans .. never though I would see Brian stumble on words!
One thing I remember today, beyond all the madness, is that after Rak-Sakyi accidentally left a hand in on Sam Morsy's face for an innocuous foul (but a foul nonetheless) late in the second half after a tussle, he immediately apologised. Morsy rolled around to waste time, and Rak-Sakyi went in about 30 seconds later (while Morsy was still shithousing) to apologise again. It looked absolutely genuine. We've got a good bloke there, even if he is on loan for Palace. Hopefully he stays for the season.

I think the people who give Stockley very low marks are wrong. Admittedly he is a relatively limited League 1 striker but the poor guy has to play up front virtually on his own. He gets no support at all from Kirk ( who is useless) and precious little from Rak Saki. He won quite a lot of headers today but its pointless because there is no one near him to help or take advantage. Also he is very important defensively because he is the 2nd best after Inniss at clearing headers. The other point is that the reason Aneke is so effective when he comes on is because the defenders are tired partly from their physical battle against Stockley.
Stockley is a big lad himself. He should be able to hold the ball up occasionally under pressure from a defender and lay it off but he doesn’t manage it anywhere near enough during the course of a game. He looks weak technically and slow.
If we aren’t going to provide him with the ammunition in terms of crosses at head height in the penalty area and he can’t contribute enough on the ground it feels like his only significant contribution is to help us defend against corners from the opposition.
Kirk is still not contributing enough either. Occasionally he will provide a good assist for a goal but both his and Stockley’s body language annoy the hell out of me. On the match thread my comment at half time was that it was time to be brave and substitute both of those from the start of the second half and bring on Chuks and CBT.
This has to be sorted out in January by bringing in another striker who is technically stronger on the ground than Stockley. Even a raw young loanee would be better than watching Stockley waving his arms around in frustration every match as the game completely passes him by.
When was the last time we scored a last minute/stoppage time goal that counted for something? Obviously we got one at Accrington but conceded immediately after.

Full members cup semi final against Norwich. Hardly anyone there to see it but it did take us through to Wembley for my first Charlton visit.
First half was proper awkward viewing, so stop start and with two teams just cancelling each other out the forced changes gave Ipswich more of an edge.
Second half better once we got CBT and Aneke on. Big game changers. The pair of them are so much more effective coming off the bench, if we can find similar to play like them from the start we'd be something else.

Just an additional thought, never noticed before but Wollacott is very flat footed at times particularly against free kicks, maybe why he gets beat from distance so often.

It has everything from not commanding the six yard box, spilling the ball under pressure and bad positioning - all condensed into two and a half minutes.
Maybe I need new glasses but I didn't have a big problem with the ref. I couldn't see a problem with any of the player bookings, although I have no idea what Garner did to get on his bad side.
The lino on the AC side got most of the off-sides correct but his biggest contribution was not seeing Chucks grab their guy round the neck to get away for our first.

Quoting Barca or Man City and false 9s is not an argument as we don't have De Bruyne, Sterling, Messi et all playing in other positions.
Come January we'll be too far gone from the ay off positions. Jayden is in very poor form and we can't rest or replace him.
Now the dust has settled, losing Egbo and the much improved O’Connell is a massive blow. Hopefully they aren’t serious injuries. Egbo and Sess give us balance and we look a far better team. None of the other players seem to give us the same fluidity.
O’Connell has looked imperious. And with Innis suspended that’s a another new centre back pairing in Thomas and Lavelle. Hopefully they quickly form an understanding.
