Bit of revisionism on here, in the first half of the season with us he blew hot and cold, but had a strong second half of the season so that's what everyone remembers. There was a spell where he couldn't buy a goal and missed some glorious chances. But that's the thing, young players develop, and coming into a new side they have to build relationships and teamwork.3

Blowing hot and cold is just what wingers do. I've long felt that a section of our support doesn't get along with the tricky winger. They'd prefer the hardworking JJ / Johnny Robinson type.

He was creating chances and Leaburn missed a couple of sitters in that poor run , one I recall at Oxford .
He stuck out like a sore thumb, he could glide past the oppo with ease .
On Monday I watched him closely and on the 4 or 5 times he got the ball he done well .
Class player and my pissed chat with his dad at home to Brighton convinced him to stay , I’m sure of it .
if I can just see the rest of the squads family and tell 90% of em to fuck off we may stand a chance .12 -

Bielik was similarly inconsistent earlier on in his time here before really stepping up in the second half of the season. Aribo got better that same season too, established himself as a regular starter and added goals to his game.3 -

Problem is that (on current evidence) we'll be so far off the pace by then it probably won't make much difference.0 -
Played most of the game today from the bench, and did well. Which shows how much of a "cheat code" he was in L1 last season, once he settled into men's football.3

A cheeky little bid to take him on loan in January for the rest of the season to strengthen our promotion bid is called for.

Are we missing that much going forward? Would be interesting to see our xG under Appleton as compared to Holden0

Rak-Sakyi, even the unwise must now realise where would have been without 15 goals and 8 assists last season.

Isn’t it true that there is no place for either JRS or CBT in team at this level at least that insists on 3-5-2 because neither of them are ever going to do the “back” part of the wing-back job well? And if so, isn’t that a bit…wrong? JRS is the most shining talent to grace our shirt for years. When he was on the pitch there was always a chance of a goal, and the chance of seeing something that gets fans out of their seats and provides lasting memories. I can still picture his final goal against Port Vale- he sent two Vale defenders half way into the East Stand with an exquisite dummy before firing through the gap they’d vacated. If there’s no place for players like him in 3-5-2 then you can stick 3-5-2 up Andy Scott´s arse.10

I don’t quite understand wanting a high press and a 3-5-2. It’ll never work. If you want press high, it should be a 4-3-3 or variation of.1

The lack of any wingers, creative midfielders or wing backs that can attack are a huge reason we are where we are. Our best and only hope is that ladapo and chuks stay fit and we play long ball to them for the rest of the season. We simply do not have the players to get the ball in the box through playing on the floor or beating a player through skill/creativity.4

Even at his best Campbell’s still not good enough to justify playing with wingers to fit him in. It made sense with JRS and CBT, but Campbell hasn’t shown he’s at that level yet.1 -
We need to avoid thinking that you can’t play exciting football without wingers. Bowyer’s promotion winning team had no wingers - and I know which team I’d rather watch week in week out out of that one and some of the recent sides that have had with wingers in …14

The question is, why did Holden come in and try to start playing 3-5-2? And then why did we spend all summer seemingly recruiting for 3-5-2 with CBT still on the books, only to switch to 4-3-3 after about two matches? And with that came the question of where May would play.
I think 3-5-2 makes sense now. I don't think it did previously. And obviously there are still a lot of questions around it. How do the CBs fit together? Is Gillesphey best on the left or in the middle? Do we get enough creativity out wide from our two starting WBs (I would say no at this point)? And the worst one is how do all of our midfielders fit together?
This is not all on Andy Scott given he also inherited a Frankenstein's monster squad. But a lot of it is on him because he's now had about 2.5 windows (with varying degrees of backing) to try to build a coherent squad and we're still lacking. I think the building blocks are there, but the decision to basically tear it down and rebuild in January was a far riskier one than I think he anticipated, and we're honestly paying for that now.0 -

I just did my squad prediction for this week and I don't have him in the 18, but I do think that he will still have a role to play in the run in.1 -
We don't have the players for 3-5-2, so why do we persevere with it?0
