Would imagine this is a nail in the coffin for the competitiveness of the Premier league now that 3 clubs will have oil money.

City have 5 titles in 6 years and have finished top 2 in 10 of the last 12 years.
United with Qatari money would have to seriously fuck things up to not challenge City now.
Newcastle have already got top 4 and have only just got started.

Newcastle might take a while longer to build, as they're still restricted by FFP and cannot spend fortunes but looking further ahead it will be hard to see those 3 not nailing the top 3 places consistently.
The thing is United don't need Qatari money to compete with City, they just need the owners to stop taking money out and and employ someone half competent to run the place.

Since the Glazers have owned United they have cost the club as much money as City have had put in.

Then you look at their abysmal record on recruitment and, importantly, player sales they don't need a massive cash injection.
Exactly my point though. They'd never have that with the Glazer's but now with Qatar instead of the Glazer's they will be a serious threat. They've also promised to redevelop the stadium and training facilities to bring them up to the level required.

Will be funny though listening to United fans who've gone on about 'oil money' for years, justifying it all now they have their own.
  • Qatar isn't oil money though.

    It's gas money  ;)
  • Will never work, unless promotion and relegation become a thing of the past. Take this year for instance, suddenly Chelsea, Man United, Man City and Newcastle, with all their money swilling about, are only allowed to spend to a number dictated by Luton getting up,

Either that or they push through with their own league and fuck off along with the big clubs in Europe, I'm sure they can throw enough money at it to make it stick amongst them
  • No chance. Why on earth would the clubs vote for that?

The bigger richer clubs never will and the mid-table sides won't because the leagues spending power gives them an edge over most of Europe.
  • Half-hearted attempt at showing the fans that the clubs do understand blah blah blah. Will be immediately rejected but yeah, 'at least we tried'.
  • Salary cap
    ok here’s a bonus
    here’s a signing on fee
    here’s a 4 knuckle shuffle
    load of shit

Well I suspect it's how real football fans view the situation. There has always been an order in football, where consistently certain long established clubs ruled the roost based on size, history and attendance.

That order only changes with money. No way on God's earth without money would, Blackburn, Chelsea, Shitty and soon Newcastle have ever had the success they enjoyed.

If Abramovich bought Spurs rather than Chelsea, Sheikh bought Everton rather than Shitty, Sunderland rather than Newcastle, it would be them having success. It doesn't appear right to me and just seems unfair. They haven't organically earned that success.

Forest, Derby and Leicester's success was hard earned and was a natural achievement through progression. A bit like the Curbs years if you want.

  • I wonder if Jack Grealish has stopped partying yet
  • Will have to get his dealers number....

  • 19th place: Burnley £29.1m
    20th place: Luton £1.8m

They are well and truly the small fish in a big pond this upcoming season.
  • Burnley havent done a bad job either to constantly be around the Premier League the last god knows how many years with such limited spending.

Proof that Luton's relegation isnt a foregone conclusion

Not saying it’s fake but Luton requested to play their first 2/3 games away.
They believed it would be tight to get the necessary renovations done before the season started.
Perhaps they’ve told the league they’re ahead of schedule. Or maybe that specific game will just be switched to Anfield, sure that happened with a team a few seasons ago.

Unbelievable the huge gamble Forest took last season and it only just paid off.

Liverpool have already requested starting the season with away games, as they're also going ground rebuilding work, extending the Anfield Road end!
  • From a policing standpoint that looks possible .None of the rival clubs are both playing at home which makes an initially believable However, the fact it’s on Twitter will guess it isn’t correct.

Would trust this one more because of already having the TV KO on them.
  • These leaks happen every single season and never materialise. If you can bet on first game fixtures then it’s probably the bookies at it.

Neither leaks were 100% correct in the end.

    Friday 11 August
    20:00 Burnley v Manchester City
    Saturday 12 August
    Arsenal v Nottingham Forest 12:30
Bournemouth v West Ham United 15:30
    Brighton v Luton Town 15:00
    Everton v Fulham 15:00
Sheffield United v Crystal Palace 15:00
    Newcastle v Aston Villa 17:30
    Sunday 13 August
    Brentford v Tottenham 14:00
    Chelsea v Liverpool 16:30
    Monday 14 August
    Manchester United v Wolves 20:00
  • Needs a new 23/24 thread i reckon....
  • One thing i did notice is that there are 7 London clubs, plus Bournemouth & Brighton plus the midlands clubs.

So on Boxing Day, Luton have been given a local game away at...........Sheffield United. Ridiculous.
  • City joined the race to sign Rice
  • City joined the race to sign Rice
Can’t help but think offering Kalvin Phillips as part of the deal would suit everyone.
  • Gutted Kane didn't go City. Walker, Stones, Rice, Foden, Grealish, Kane playing with each other every week would be glorious.
