I wonder if they are expecting Dobson to leave and they are planning for life without him , hence the appearance tonight in the seconds.

That would be crazy and depressing and that can't be the plan if we really have ambitions but nothing would surprise me any more after the transfer of Mason Burstow after a handful of games.

  • Every club does it nowadays... Kloppball, Bielsaball, Potterball, Gerrardball... just a few off the top of my head.
I know that’s why I mentioned it!!!  It’s silly I know but it really annoys me!!!🤣…. Especially being third division!!😂,,, I got some popaballs , lovely snack.

You may well, of course , be right ; I’m only
going by the old fashioned view that your first 11 might play together in pre season.  But I’ve always assumed McGrandles was signed to replace Dobson
McGrandles was signed for reasons that will apparently will become clear, is what I was told.

My guess is that 1 or 2 things that were expected to happen haven't, as yet happened.  Or something has happened that wasn't expected.

We were first in for him in March and it was close to being finished when Jackson was still here.  It then needed Garner's sign off.

It's a really funny signing because now we have got Payne I am not sure if he has a case for being first choice in any of the positions or combinations.

Maybe he will be the Paul Haynes of 2022?
  • Absolute no slight on his talent and I hope we get to see more of him this year, but if we’re going into next season with Leaburn as first choice winger I’d be worried
Not sure why so many seem to think two of the front three should be wingers. You need an out & out striker but basically you need three front runners who can inter switch & you would hope are all capable of scoring goals. Given that sandgaard has decided that we will play a high pressing game it wouldn't surprise me if Jack Payne has been brought in to play in a front three. High energy player  with an eye for goal he could possibly do a job up front & certainly couldn't do worse than Kirk who I don't see as a starter.

We needed one when Davison was still at the club, that's one striker gone, and another injured. Surely we'll bring someone in, SURELY
And not forgetting the departure of Washington-The lunatics still running the asylum at Charlton

If only you could be running things......
  • Think McGrandles said he would not be playing the DM here when he first signed.
Did he not say that he thinks he’s better further forward? Anyway , I hope Dobson stays but playing him last night rather than against a team that will likely have a lot more of the ball seems baffling if he’s going to be around for all of next season.

Thought Ness looked very good today, interesting that BG moved him to CB and put Elerewere RB.
I agree, although I think it was partially because he was Lavelle and Ness for most of the game according to Terry 😂 (said with much love as I really enjoy his commentary)
  • I find that hard to believe. Why would you play your first choice midfield against part time Welling, rather than against Championship opponents, and really get them sharp?

Tomorrow will be a massively harder defensive task, and you want to see how your midfield copes.
Glad I'm not the only one baffled by yesterday's team selection. It's more important that we're competitive against Swansea and with respect to Welling, they're easier to put out a competitive team against.
  • It’s probably already been mentioned but I cba to read the whole thread. Why wasn’t this played at Welling in front of a crowd?

Payne and Mcgrandles haven’t been signed to sit on the bench and Fraser will be a big player for us so I think they will all be starting against Accrington maybe Dobson just doesn’t suit Garners style but with the 5 subs everyone will be getting a chance, enjoyed the game last night I thought Ness and Clayden played very well and gives Garner another choice.

Because Welling are having work done @ Park View Road, they had to cancel all home friendlies.
  • Looking forward to getting down the Valley against a good team, see some new players, don't have to see some faces we have released and enjoy the sun.

Well you clearly saw the game through a blindfold if you think Kirk offered more than DJ in it. Let's wait for the highlights package, shall we, count how many times each gets involved?
Had to miss game last night so highlights were my first impression. Seems both were quite heavily involved in our best chances, DJ especially first half and Kirk second. Purely on those highlights you'd have to say DJ shaded it because of that cross onto Chuks' bonce first half, and his goal.

Can't believe how many chances we wasted. Yes I know it's only a pre season work out but we should be hitting the target.
  • RC_CAFC said:
Surely in pre season it’s just a good sign we’re creating those chances? Sharpness in finishing will come if we can create.
This. Scoring goals is a habit and comes naturally once a striker gets going and his confidence/arrogance has been kick started. Creating chances is down to hard work
  • I assume you can buy tickets before the game at ticket office, as they’re no longer available online.

Only one mirror on the wall…no wonder we never kick off on time, they probably have to line up to check themselves out before they leave the dressing room
  • Can you buy tickets at the ground? You can’t buy online anymore
