If I were picking a team based entirely on performance today it would be:

    MacG
    Clare Inniss O'Connell Clayden
    JFC Henry Fraser
    Leaburn Aneke Kirk

Yeah Dobson didn't overly impress today - But then again with Dartford sitting back, he didn't really have much of a defensive role to play.
Agreed. Thought Henry managed to find space better when he was on and provided a better passing option for the defenders, which helped us get up the pitch.

Might be a function of the Dartford team being far worse in that second half but even so Henry played that role better on the day.

Hopefully that forces our hand and makes us go and find another Left-Back - Having Sessegnon and Clare as other Right-Back options is good enough, but Sessegnon and Clayden at present on the Left doesnt feel strong enough
Highly doubtful they are actually considering these being the final options at left-back. I'm sure they're bringing in another one.
Don't understand why Sessegnon didn't get 45 minutes instead of playing Egbo out of position again.
Not quite ready yet according to Garner, almost certain to at least get game time next time out.

Well he's the professional so he would know, but I would have thought he had been having a pre season at Fulham & a steady 45 mins at Dartford would have been beneficial to his fitness. Hey ho
  • I know I said to Jayden Stockley that Sean Clare should play as an attacking Right back if we sort out the CB problem and Deji, Lavelle step up this season and I'm sure I have said it on here as well; Did Sean play as an attacking RB today ?

Seeing the goals from Corners with Innis, Leaburn, Deji, Clare and Chuks all on the field at the same time then if fans and Garner ? can't see how important good crosses in the air are then I'm totally out of sync. Morgan made a great long pass from midfield to Kirk on the left; THIS IS NOT HOOF BALL.  I still can't work out why Albie has so little composure in front of goal because he can pass the ball but he has a phobia when he see the posts.
I would try hypnosis and he would turn into Frank Lampard.

Good work out today and pleased to hear we won the first set 6-1 also Kirk played with some fire in his belly. What was pleasing was Charlie got the ball and didn't need an overlapping Pickering type full back on his left. League 1 defenders will know Kirk will use his favoured right foot and really should know this so on second thought Steven Sessegnon overlapping may be a good option.

What happened in the 2nd set ?

He's only had a limited amount of time with the squad. It wouldn't have been 45 minutes as both teams played 60 minutes.

Passing out from the back was much slicker today and showed that training sessions are working.

Today also saw Lucas Ness get a run out at full back. Looked very comfortable on the ball.

Sadly the comments on Albie just feel deja vu. His finishing has not improved from the first game of last season when he blasted some glorious opportunities over the bar. Let's not pretend it will just click because we want it to.

Really disappointed with DJ today. Hid from the ball and made no forward runs. Shockingly lazy.
Bloody hell not the L word . Leuth won't be impressed.

Albie Morgan's fitness, passing, and set pieces have improved on what it's was but his tackling like Gilbey looks untidy but the complete lack of confidence when the posts are in his vision has really halted any progress. Garner will need the midfielders to score a decent amount what ever system we play.
  • Does this mean we have to dig out our "I've seen Leaburn score" shirts  ??
Are they still going to fit?

I think we're seeing why Leaburn went to Spain ahead of Kanu.... Kanu may have been more prolific, but Leaburn looks (literally) ready for the man's game
Yes I thought that at end of last season, this confirms it.
Tracy was there, she must be very pleased with her boy today.

Mentioned in the first game, I am not sure where he fits into this Charlton side. Been hear 18 months now and hasn’t really had a settled run in the side in his favourite position. If the season starts tomorrow, he would be behind CBT and Kirk.

Still can’t work out what his strengths are as a player. Davison is a popular one to offload, but DJ is one I would look to move on as don’t feel he suits our style at all. Both wide positions we are lacking in cover, but wouldn’t be confident if he ended up playing 40+ matches.
Good to see him go pronto. Done nothing from the day his fat lazy backside strode in to sparrows lane. Offload asap TS

Two points here-One most guys on here see much more of the boys in action than i do But i am a great fan of the long diagonal pass that Morgan sent over for the Kirk first goal. And although this type of pass is LONG its NOT. yer typical ,hoof ball, If done pin point into space, it usually by passes defenders to the extreme. It takes execution and mindset. Onya Albie. But he should have burried that open goal.I am a fan of Claire, who  also has this long ball delivery, ability
Secondly it's great to see posession football, played out from the back ,But bear in mind, there was NO tactical press by Dartford .Unlike Killie last week, where it led to a mistake, and a goal ,There will be a press, from most teams in league games, but it looks like Garner has faith in the defenders playing out, and the quality is there to work on. Overall i am personally  feeling more optimistic. this season, than last
  • Aaron Henry is a player, this lad will go on to have a good career. Range of passing is very good, very calm on the ball, happy to have it under pressure, and strikes the ball very well!

miles Leaburn is a until, and athlete as well, is he one of the those that will benefit from a loan or will he stay around the first team as he is such a handful..

let’s not get carried away, as Dartford were awful.. players looked more comfortable today with the ball at there feet..

negative for me, Clayden isn’t up to it, neither is Davinson
  • How did Elerewe play? Was really excited about this guy seeing him last pre season, so great on the ball and athletic with it. If his pre season is good I want to see him starting a fair number of games this season.

Davison did well with the pen. Keeper committed so he knew to touch the ball past him and make contact. Poor keeping though.

BTW everytime I have seen Ness I have been impressed.
  • Davidson did what Clive Mendonca and Gary Nelson did in bygones days and made sure that contact was made.

Ask the question again did Sean Clare play as an attacking RB ?

Clare didnt really advance as much as Clayden on the other flank, almost acted as a third Centre-Back

Though unless Garner addressed it (not seen his post match yet) I'm not sure if that's under instruction or just him being a bit more wary about being caught out as he's not a natural FB.

If Egbo/Sessegnon end up at RB I'd expect either to be considerably more attacking.

From where I was sitting Sean Clare went forward many times during the 30 minutes we could watch. He was looking really fit. He was linking with Gilbey and Leaburn which led to goals.

Clayden runs very well but he has a major flaw. He can't kick with his right foot and his lack of height is a problem when defending.
