These should be his first 2 signings before anything else is done
I think TS realises that and is just playing crafty.
Much like RD TS doesn't like employing managers who want to bring their own backroom, as it's double bubble when he sacks them. I suspect it's more to do with the restrictive contracts he's offering.
Didn't Luzon, Peters and Riga all bring back room staff with them? Slade did, Robinson did. It was only after KM left and RD gave up (chicken or egg?) that Bowyer didn't?
The turnover in coaching staff under the succession of foreign bosses was farcical - even more so than that of managers/head coaches. I’m not sure how many were closely associated with the incumbent - I assumed Duchatelet got them by making random selections in a telephone directory.
Welcome Ben Garner. You and I and thousands of others now share a football club. A great football club. I will always be here, a lot of us will always be here, so whatever whatever whatever, please Mr Garner, win lots of matches.
Spending a bit of time tonight going back through this thread & revisiting some posts I merely cast a quick eye over before.
Reading the article written by Ben G as per RR's link, I've been blown away by this guy's honesty, passion, determination & basic common sense. He's really impressed me - speaking from the heart as well as the head IYKWIM.
As others have stated earlier today, I sincerely hope that TS won't play silly b*ggers with the new gaffer as he appears to enjoy doing with the faithful of late.
THIS is the time to be honest with both his manager & with us, recognising that this is now serious. No games, no " bigging up" issues that can't be delivered, no promises that are highly unlikely to come to fruition.
We need an owner we can trust & who is prepared to tell it like it is. To do otherwise is only likely to end in tears. IF the budget doesn't allow for our first choice of players, then say so, especially to our Ben before hopes rise exponentially. Honesty is the best policy.
I am still undecided about our owner's ability to take our club forward but the first step towards next season in appointing a hungry young manager is one to be applauded. Now give him the tools as far as is possible to be successful here.
And if, as several Lifers have commented, Thomas isn't looking as perky & upbeat as we've come to expect, maybe this is the time to urge him to spread the load & delegate to someone experienced to take the helm at The Valley. Yes, it would mean further outlay at a time when the assembly of the squad inevitably requires hefty funds but surely the value of health & wellbeing should never be underestimated ....Maybe time for Raelynn to have a serious word.
In conclusion, BG already has my full support & respect for taking on this challenge. I believe he'll fight his corner with patience, tenacity and the benefit of years of experience to negotiate the players he wants. We can only hope that he's successful.

My understanding was they were RD people, not Luzon, Peters or Riga's.
I fully expect the two guys to arrive, but suspect the delay/wrangling is over terms, and not the minor compensation to Swindon. They won't be getting straight 3 year deals! We are also yet to hear/understand (nor will we likely to) the terms of Garners, could it be like Jacksons and severance will be performance related?
I know for a fact Peters assistants were his choice, one of them was his brother in law and the other was a guy he met whilst studying for his A license.
If only someone could do a summary of the verbatim quotes from Thomas Sandgaard and a Bona fide Journalist on the SLP or the Swindon roundabout sports advertiser but not posters who say they have a mate who told them or folk on the internet called Sausage or Conor just in case it turns out to be attention seekers who just rehash what they hear from each other.
Both Airman Brown and buttleJR are good sources as the former has a track record of garnering info from the inner circle over the years and the latter has a connection with Thomas who tells him information which may be smoke and mirrors but young JR passes on in good faith.
There is only one person who is a course and distance winner in this skill on CL ?
I call for super woman @aliwibble to separate out the wheat from the chaff.
Thankfully things have moved on since you posted that this morning @soapboxsam, cos my brain is mush at the moment, so I've generally been skipping big chunks of this thread. And that was before the dodgy perm posts started.

As you know what TS is thinking and what contracts he's offering I hope you can you tell us all the signings we'll be making.
Are we buying any players?
The biggest shock for me today was Gallen saying we had over 100 applicants for the Managers role, clearly that's why it took so long, that's a lot of CV's to go through........
& in sandgaards interview I believe he said that we had about 40 applications.
Welcome Ben Garner, got an extremely good feeling about this.
Reckon we are gonna win by some big scorelines and look like a real dominant side.
You’ll have to excuse me as I read a lot of posts, but a regular poster made an excellent point earlier. The last load of managers we have had sort of just fell into managing or did it for the sake of it, we have an experienced, passionate coach here who has been employed by reputable clubs and developed players. I reckon we will see some real improvement in our players individually and I can’t wait to see how we look on the first day of the season
Having had time to read reports, and listen to interviews, actually excited for the season now, hopefully we can play attacking brand of football. Clearly TS didn’t like Jacko style or the way he was setting the team up, hence it took him so long to appoint him, and was basically forced to have as manager because of the run of results. Hopefully we get a few good signings in, and get off to a good start. Could be some entertaining games down the valley this year
Just had a chance to watch the three interviews on YouTube. Very pleased with all of them.
- Garner speaks well, calm demeanour, knows what needs to be done. Looking forward to seeing what the team looks like in a couple of months time.
- Gallen set a few rumours straight re: our transfer policy etc. Good to hear it from him, a face and name that the fanbase as a whole respects.
- Sandgaard’s switch of focus is undeniable. Not more talk of blowing the league out of the water. Every decision is being made to help give the team the best foundations and the best opportunity to gain as many points as they can.
Whether it all pans out, we’ll find out by summer 2023 but I can’t poke holes in anything the club put out today.
Welcome Ben Garner. Hopefully it’s a long and successful era.
We have some right tits for fans on social media, Twitter in particular.
Loads of posts about ‘cheap option’ when we paid compensation to get him and have heard he was the prime candidate. The cheap option would have been Euell or a manager out of work. Who else did these people expect? Sean Dyche?
We have to be one of the most entitled fan bases surely

There are plenty of serial applications. People who play Football Manager etc. they send in a cv that needs to be filtered out but is still regarded as an application. Over 100 of these
then those with genuine experience but who may not at all right for us - but still need to be checked. So maybe 40 of those
a shortlist of those who are worth a chat. 10-12 of those
but only one chosen. Ben Garner is our man.
Rather than split the minutiae of everything that gets said - perhaps we just move forwards now
Not entirely sure about this appointment. Swindon fans seem very non -plexed. I suppose in the greater scheme of things they didn't see enough of him to make a measured judgement.
Bit of a gamble by TS and if this one blows up in his face I'm really not sure what happens next.

I wonder who the experienced managers who have premier league experience were who made it to the last 5/6 shortlist that TS mentioned?
Immaterial now but…
Gary Monk? Tony Pulis? Tim Sherwood? Stuart Pearce?

And we already have 5-7 before we have even got down to business, if he can get a side like Swindon playing ball with minimal investment, I’m sure he can get a side like ours playing with an owner who puts his money where his mouth is
On another note, watching the TS interviews? Is he having a pop at JJ/Stockley? Obviously there’s whispers of Stockley wanting out and Wednesday being linked by one of their local journos, TS says something along the lines of ‘the days of knocking it up to a big striker are over’. Feels like a bit of a pop when you consider that was our previous managers style and our main strikers strength..
I am not opposed to selling Stockley if it means it makes way for other strikers who have looked good like Alfie May or Stockton.
Get the feeling based on our owner, manager and style we we trying to implement that Stockley will be off
Here's the chant I've been working on, to be sung raucously to
the tune of ‘David Pleat’s
A Pervert’, or
should I say ‘My Old Man’s a Dustman’,
🎵 Ben Garner's No Nigel, He's Proper Charlton Now, He F***ing Hates the Eagles, Says he'd rather be a Cow. (Moooooo!) 🎵
Drawing
out chanting ‘Moo!’ at the end appeals to my infantile
sense of humour and the kids can join in with it. I can’t see it
catching on, but ‘Goodbye Horse!’ mysteriously
did back in the day.
Anyway,
why not try it out at home and see what the missus thinks, those
preferring more moderate language substituting “F***ing Hates”
with “Doesn’t Like,” although it loses
something in the delivery I find.
If sung loudly enough, he might even look over to milk it.
No! Alright I'll get my coat then and withdraw my application for the post of Poet Laureate.
Insert clown for cow
clowns don't moo...
You're not wrong, and without the (moo..) the whole thing falls apart.
Instead of 'cow' I tried using 'sow', but grunting doesn't work as well and might offend the local constabulary.
Besides, I don't want to see our own BeeGee wearing big red shoes and making us out to be a 🤣OXO.
Gallen confirms that for every transfer since Sandgaard has come in, theManager has been asked does he want them or not.
Some people on this thread should hang their head in shame.
Recruitment process is completely clarified in Gallen's interview for those interested.
For some balance I’d add that I know there were players being put forward by Adkins and Jackson last summer that were being vetoed by TS as he didn’t think they were good enough, so the process didn’t seem to work both ways.
As someone mentioned further up Adkins didn’t fancy Dobson, but he was signed anyway. Asking the manager whether he wanted the player didn’t stop TS signing the player.
Of course they may have made changes to that process since last summer and if they have then great.
I don’t think people should ‘hang their heads in shame’. People are right to be wary about the club’s recruitment after the way it’s panned out over the last year. But, again, if lessons have been learnt and changes made to it then good.
Brilliant. Bloke has paid compo for a new manager, we have had confirmation from Gallen how things are running, our owner has once again shown that he wants what’s right for us and is trying to do the right things, yet people still feel the need to say how he should conduct himself
Classy fanbase.
Count your lucky stars it isn’t someone like me as an owner, cause if I read the amount of insults being hurled at myself and my family, despite showing my best interests I’d be having a fire sale and be boshing us off to the next lot of con artists for a couple of quid.

I'd love to be optimistic, although innate pessimism does mean that you are pleasantly surprised a lot. I don't see the 5-7 though. I can see CBT playing in an attacking side, plus Dobbo as insurance. I can't see any of our strikers playing in a high tempo, high pressing side. JFC would be good enough if he can stay fit; jury massively out on Fraser/Kirk etc.

has he got that bit of steel to deal with a certain breed of footballer , let’s hope so
about time Gallen got some more Bielik and Cullens in rather than the recent dross
hopefully he gets the coaching support he used at Swindon and not BRFC (someone will now tell me it’s the same people!)
welcome Joel , you thought the inbreds from Swindon were a freak show , you ain’t seen nothing yet !
