If Garner is insisting that his coaching team come with him, that does give Swindon the upper hand. They can hold out for the full compensation they have stipulated in contracts if they know Garner won't go without them. Indeed, if the boot was on the other foot, I would be reticent for a cut-price deal to be made if there was leverage to get more value from losing 3 key staff members, especially if a Director of Football had just walked away for free.
TS therefore would need to potentially drag out the negotiations to see if Swindon flinch. It seems that now BG is in a position where he is more welcome here than at Swindon in the eyes of the average fan, which leaves the Swindon board in a difficult position. However, having lost BC, you could argue there is a win to be had from retaining Garner and his team even if the fans will have to re-establish a bond with Garner in the short term.
The delay is fine in and of itself, providing that Garner is able to put in place the plans he wants for Pre-season at CAFC. If talks are advanced as far as reports suggest, I doubt Swindon will have BG working all hours to plan for next season and I am sure Garner will be wanting to put the foundations in so that he can hit the ground running.
However the handling of this is amateurish. If they wanted to control the narrative, they needed to have a regular pro-active communication strategy in place that enabled them to do so. By sitting back and responding after the leaks, the rebuttals seem farcical. Especially as the truth is probably closer to Cawley's version than it is to the rebuttal.
This is like a rollercoaster ride 🙄🙄 I wish whoever has TS,'s ear would advise him to delete all social media channels! There is absolutely nothing to gain from any response that they put out. Big week coming up by the end of it we could either all be in a positive mood looking forward to the season ahead or in meltdown. No middle ground imo
5 weeks and still deciding is a disgrace. Clearly something is very very wrong.
FFS……..I can’t be specific but I’m pretty sure that in my 65 years of supporting the club, on several occasions we have spent at least as much time in appointing a new manager……. if not more.

How about at an end of a season? Slade was 30 days when Riga got the sack in 2016. Jackson is now 33 days since
Can't believe how toxic some posts here and on FB appear.
Shows what an entitled society we live in.
Social media at its very worst.
TEL….. very very well said fella, spot on.👏 Mind you, if you want toxicity extremus……”the forum whose name shall not be spoken” is the place to go……if you have the stomach that is.
maybe just maybe TS has alternatives lined up and hasn’t decided ?
More likely it’s just that he needs / wants to meet in person before confirming the appointment in case it changes any opinions from the zoom style interviews to date.
But actually this PR game may just be creating a small bit of drama/interest in what otherwise would be a relative non event in the close season and has actually made the choice of manager seem better than it was first perceived.
Faux outrage of amateur communication matters not a jot whilst we are third teir.
On balance I’m more inclined they are just trying to create a bit of noise and PR to big up the confirmation when it comes as otherwise we are barely newsworthy.
That’s the thing though it’s not newsworthy. It probably won’t even get a mention on Radio Five whilst it might on Talksport but it’ll be a one liner and move on. The only bit of noise it creates is amongst our fan base.
I think TS is struggling to handle completing all this from America with the privacy he wanted. He thought he could just quietly get on with it without outside interest like in any other business, he didn’t (quite naively) factor in that football is not like any other business and opinions, hype and speculations play a huge role in football, even at this level.
The ongoing negotiations are normal of business, but unusual in their length in a footballing sense.
I definitely think the biggest mistakes they’ve made in the last 30 days is responding on social media to people.
I am supportive of TS and totally believe he has the best interests of the club at heart but I think he needs to give the fans something positive soon just so we can all get behind the new manager and team ready for next season.
Hire an experienced chief executive then. Millwall have an American owner and he hired Kavanagh. Someone who not only knows how the Football League operates, but has experience in this region they play in as well.
Barclay says there is little incentive to invest in lower league anymore. When has there been? If you can take charge of a League 1 club and take them to the Premier League, stay there for at least a few years then it can be financial rewarding. But the chance of doing that without making huge losses first is almost none. That's been the case for quite a while now, in fact I'd argue the incentive is greater because the money in the Prem continues to grow. That's why clubs like Sunderland, Ipswich and Wigan still attracted enough interest to be taken over. Of course I appreciate that for smaller clubs it's not worth the hassle because you've been an even greater improbability of success on the pitch. I don't think anything has changed in a long time though.

Agreed. Makes the appointment seem more appealing to ‘us’ when they acknowledge the initial luke warm reaction the news had.
It’s a possible explanation. It’s not any attempt to advocate it.
Let's face it we are an embarrassment at the moment. Millwank and palarse are both in a far better position than we are likely to be any time soon. I couldn't give a flying fuck how successful Sandgaard has been in his medical equipment company but he knows fuck all about running a football club. Employ some people with knowledge of how to run a football club and listen to what they say because as things stand we are a joke of a club.

I agree with you. It does make sense and maybe TS will turn to that in time.
I think Andrew Barkley has kind of highlighted though that the opportunity to make money in football is tough (impossible in league one I would suggest) which means that TS wants to watch every pound that is being spent and make sure it is done sensibly. It means he is negotiating everything and isn’t letting anyone else have control.
The positives are that the club will hopefully stop wasting money, hopefully be shopping smartly and be investing in youth which is such a strength of Charlton.
The negatives are, TS is an excellent businessman but he isn’t an expert in English football. He so far has underestimated English football, it’s very difficult to get success on the cheap. When an owner isn’t splashing the cash, the fans are a lot quicker to jump on their back.
TS needs to live and die by his approach, and I believe that his approach really can have positive results. He just needs to have someone telling him what, how and when to communicate with the fans as that is really letting him down.
In a world before social media there wouldn’t be this sense of panic and feelings of doom and gloom.
I doubt we’d even really notice how long it’s taking to appoint a manager. We wouldn’t be responding to every rumour or comment on Twitter, there wouldn’t be any ill advised replies made to fans messages on LinkedIn by the owner.
We’d know that JJ had been sacked of course; then we’d have heard that Garner looks like he might be the one; then we might have read that negotiations are ongoing vis à vis his assistants joining him.
No massive deal.
Not saying this thing has been well handled, but really can’t get too triggered by social media messaging.
Appoint Garner and let’s get on with recruitment.
If that turns out to be a disaster, then maybe I’ll grab my pitchfork.

A brief pause ensues while people formulate how to criticise this statement.
I can’t believe TS is taking so long on such an important decision. He should just go with the first bloke mad enough to sign a contract and be done with it.

The tension and curiosity arises as Charlton recruit a manager/absolute nobody
From league two
Sums it up for me.

Learning from our mistakes my bollox.
