They are plenty of valid reasons to question TS (such as MS and his role, his managerial appointments, his over promising, his rush to make things happen ie pushing fill the Valley too hard after the initial success) but some are looking to see a negative in every action or if no action then to see a negative in that same lack of action.
Back to Garner.
IF IF IF (WIOTOS) what the Swindon journalist says is true then I'm pleased.
We have a manager who's been allowed to bring in his own staff (a criticism of the Adkins appointment).
We have a young but experienced coach wanting to progress his career with us (you could argue we had similar with JJ but he wasn't given time/wasn't good enough).
We have a manager who, we hope, sees eye to eye with the owner and buys into the "model" that we plan to use.
Will it work? Possibly, if TS and MS don’t micro-manage BG, give him a large say in recruitment, fund said recruitment and give him time.
Will BG get all that? I don't know but at least some of us will have something different to look forward to and some others something different to moan about.
Sandgaard made the point about the pathway/ progression not just in regards to youth coming through but coaches too.
If, if, if we get Garner and his team in I'd take that as TS having a wake up call in regards to what it takes to getting out of this league and moving forwards, just plugging a random coach in to current set up - ala Adkins - isn't as straight forward or easy as it sounds, hopefully, that mind set will stretch to recruitment, ie the manger/ coach having more if an input into who comes in.
Could be the start of that Charlton resurrection right here.
Do you want to be ridiculed for positivity you fool!!!!😂😂 if you’re going to put you’re head above the parapet maybe you should have said Thomas is a good for nothing, bravado loving prick!!.😜😂
Apparently I have an agenda against Marty so, I'm on an even keel.
Plus I'm at a Spanish wedding so I'm pissed, which may have got the positivity tingling.
It seems like Garner is going to bring a shape and dynamism to the team. In itself that may not yield instant results because he will need the players to be able to execute the plan. In the short term it will be interesting to see how our current squad gets on. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised on the upside with one or two of them - DJ?, Fraser? Morgan? Gilbey? My biggest about turn would be if Stockley manages to cut it.
I fancy it will increase the chances for younger players to get a look in if the team is more mobile as a unit, making them less vulnerable to strong-arm tactics.
After a couple of pretty dire seasons of Charlton watching, I am actually excited about the next part of the journey.
I do hope Chorley comes with, we need more experience in the building and Gallens recruitment has been very hit and miss, Chorley on the other hand seems to be getting it spot on.
Thought I'd pull up Garner/Chorley's signings from last season , lots of younger players that had been released from higher levels and a couple of non league talents too.
I welcome him and I am hopeful he can get some quality in and we can put the last 3 disappointing seasons behind us.
Who knows how well he’ll do. I just want us to start winning. Better football would be a bonus, but in general I tend to think overall, if you win consistently, the football tends to be decent as well.
Last season was dire. There were a couple of decent performances, the two Rotherham games, Plymouth and Ipswich at home, that was it. Prior to that the season before I think 60 minutes of the home 5-2 win over AFC Wimbledon and the 6-0 away at Plymouth. That’s 5 and 3 quarter good performances in 2 years. We’ve been starved of good football.
To the untrained eye such as mine, I would say most our team bar maybe Dobson and CBT are good enough to be in a promoted team, but maybe some some of the others like Stockley with better players around him, are good enough, I just can’t see it.
We need a big few weeks. No way this current crop, even with 3 or 4 quality additions are good enough.
If Garner can replicate what he did with Swindon last season, that’s a good start
A couple of observations about the reported £90k Garner is being offered a year by Charlton. Kind of throws into suspicion that any move for a target “more ambitious” than Beale seems, well slightly odd at best. Beale is not even number one at Villa and although he’s probably on one of the best packages around for number two I suspect anything “more ambitious” would attract significantly more than what’s being offered to Garner. I don’t doubt we’ve made contact with several “names” but I doubt it got very far. That’s not to say I’m disappointed if Garner is announced. I think he has something about his CV that might suit us very well. What I suspect is that we might well have fortuitously ended up with someone who was’nt high or even on our original list.

If you look at the original tweet, that has fed the salary conversation it says
"Can also confirm it will be a 2-year deal for Garner at Charlton. Reported salary over that period is in excess of £180k #stfc"
Now people have taken that as 90k a year for two years.
If you Google average league 1 managers salary the result is, coincidentally, 180k a year. I suggest that he has googled the average and add excess in front of it.
He hasn't got a clue what his salary is and is making the assumption it's in excess of the average. Which is probably true. Its a non story IMO.

Beale was on 600k a year as a coach .. you got Blackpool manager giving up his job to take the position at Villa …. money … Blackpool bring in Simon Grayson how much they paying their managers ?

Simon Grayson hasn’t gone to Blackpool? That would be a terrible appointment, there’s no way they would be that stupid

Assume you have lumped on Grayson at 7/2 because you have said it twice and there is not even a clickbait site reporting it.

I know next to nothing about Garner but like every Charlton manager beforehand - I simply send him my warm best wishes for the challenge ahead. Fingers crossed it works out - and who knows it might just do that.
If and When x is announced they will become the 14th different permanent Manager/Head Coach of Charlton Athletic in the last 16 years since Alan Curbishley departed back in 2006.
The previous 16 years prior to that saw 3 in Curbishley, Gritt and Lawrence, being in charge.
Garner finally agreed a deal and compo for him is sorted. However, not a done deal as he won't be coming without his own backroom staff. Talks regarding them are ongoing. Compo sticking point at the moment If pushed I would say announcement likely Tues/Weds next week.
If that’s true it’s heartening that he’s holding out for his own team. Suggests he won’t be a yes man.

If you want him to be successful then you need to bring the support with him that’s helped him do that. Stop pissing about Sandgaard.
How do you know he’s pissing about? It’s reasonable to assume that relevant personnel are away….. at both clubs as well as agents, accountants and their respective legal representatives etc. There are three new additions to our payroll being selected here not just Garner. Have you not thought it may well be others who are pissing about or playing hard ball or just not sure if they are up for it………..who knows? Yes, things have been moving along via the internet but I expect some things are still best done face to face. There’s a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to be done. Just peed off with people continually pulling the Sandgaard’s apart, especially when they don’t have all the low down and make wild assumptions to suit their glass half empty agenda.😕

I said cocoa the last time, so there you go something different👍, interesting? Not a chance🤣
I’m quite excited by the prospect of Garner and his own team bringing a style and pattern of play to us. If you look at the squad, it should be doing so much better than mid table in League One.
Hopefully BG and his team get stuck in early at Sparrows Lane and set a blueprint for how we play.
If we can add numbers and quality to the likes of AMB, Lavelle, CBT, Fraser, Dobson, Stockley and Chuks then it could be an exciting season.

I don’t have a clue if this will be a good or bad appointment, what I will do is judge and support him if he does indeed become our new manager by his performance with us.he deserves our support so hopefully he comes and gets us promotion.

I think it’s pretty clear nothing is a given in high level professional sport. Coaches, players, and processes that work at one team, might not work at another for instance - hell they might not even work at the same team the next season.
However I think with Garner we have someone who has more chance of being successful than not. He’s a young, ambitious, progressive coach who has a very solid coaching CV behind him which, short of having Steven Gerrard claim he’s the best coach he’s worked with, I actually think is more impressive than Beale’s.
Being allowed to bring his own coaching team in is clearly a positive indicator, but (the conversation has been done to death already) it’s whether he can get the players he wants in that fits his ethos and style.

I think if we have satisfactory recruitment and Garner shows he has a plan then he should get that. I’ve said all along patience is required and let’s judge everyone once the season is underway.🤞
