Point to me posts where more than one person has said they're happy with the Strikers we have available? - Seems the voices in your head are telling you something that isnt true
can't be bothered - there are some though, trust me - in fact, you can have a look yourself
Haha of course not... I'm not the one who needs to backup calling people names
if there aren't any, i haven't upset anybody have i? not sure why you're getting so touchy?
Hahah “Muppets! Clueless! You’re the touchy one”
nope - i'm just stating a fact - why comment on it if you aren't touchy about it ?
Calling people muppets and/ or clueless because they think we might need a CB more than a striker isn’t helping the debate, it’s just being unnecessarily rude. You might be right that we need a striker more, and it’s probably what the majority think, but there’s no need for vitriol.
you're going on the register as well then - these people need to be exposed - doing nothing about such blatant foolishness is what could see us with a blunt attack for the season - i'm going to try and get some support from the news shopper and local radio perhaps to help the cause
I thought this thread was a Transfer Rumours thread, yet everytime I have a read it seems to be people falling out with each other and very few rumours!! Can we, finally, agree that 99% of people on this site agree that we need another striker and some people also want another CB, furthermore some people want another LB. So if those 3 positions are generally agreed, can we please stop arguing and sniping and repeating ourselves over and over again, and just post some rumours, or is that too much to ask? Thanks. NB I'm sue BG knows what he wants so I'll trust his judgement, afterall he's the professional and the Manager.
I think we need a striker, absolutely.
But I think prioritising a centre half, as BG has said, is the best thing to do.
It’s purely for numbers, we’ve 3 strikers for 1 position, we’ve 3 centre halves for 2 positions. And we have 1 injury prone striker and 1 injury prone centre half. Makes perfect sense to me.

115 new posts. There’s bound to be a juicy rumour in there. Nope.
What were you expecting? How many of our signings were actually leaked before they happened? Apart from Rak-Sakyi pretty much everyone who came in was a surprise
Mainly expecting rumours. Not grown men bickering or in depth discussions about how good/bad Stockley is.
Grown *man, there’s one person bickering, the rest are asking why.
If you can’t see that Stockley either doesn’t fit the system we’re playing or isn’t good enough for it, you don’t have a clue about football I’m afraid.
We’ll then, you’re saying Garner doesn’t have a clue about football. He’s seen him in pre-season for months and is so confident he’s made him captain. I personally think we need another striker but then Garner has 17 years experience as a pro coach and I don’t.

Garner has said ideally he wants a striker, CB and FB so he agrees with you.
Firstly as I mentioned before next year this thread should really be called something like ‘transfer rumours and general new season discussion’ as it always ends up being the most visited thread and prompts the most discussion for obvious reasons.
Then there could be a locked ‘bite size’ transfer rumour post for those who literally only want to read those (not that there would have been many this year due to how tight lipped it’s been). I’d be more than happy to mod this, and dish myself out a promote for every post I make.
Secondly, much to certain posters all seeing all all knowing eyes, they’re not fighting against the grain of general consensus with some 4D big brain out of the box thinking about where we need to strengthen.
Where people differ is that some individuals can have a conversation and appreciate the wider picture and look at alternatives in a nuanced way without blathering on about it constantly, trying to point score, or by resorting to name calling and pigeon holing of posters views.

Nice to meet you Sue.
How do you do Now you are gonna die
I don't think we've quite reached the Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer stage yet. Let's leave something to look forward to on Thursday even if no more rumours.
Always kicks off on here on an August Bank Holiday.
Why can’t everyone just calm down and look forward to ITV showing us a James Bond film from around 3pm. That’s how I remember my bank holidays growing up
Maybe there should be a thread specifically for the discussion of our 22/23 season which would hopefully take a lot of the non-rumours discussion away from here... although this page would certainly be very quiet without it!

This question is for Ben Garner obviously or otherwise Ben should be pleading for Thomas Sandgaard to sanction another forward to come to the club ASAP. I'm sure he is to Steve Gallen and Martin Sandgaard.
Big Centre forwards like Jayden who give 100% to the cause need players around then in the box. Not happening enough in the away games at the moment.
Perhaps it's the stats that are driving the club to look at a CB before a striker.
Attacking stats:
5th in the league for goals per match.
3rd in the league for expected goals.
6th in the league for shots on target per match.
Defensive stats:
8th for xG conceded (1st being worse).
10th for saves per match.
17th for clean sheets.
-
Some interesting unrelated stats. We're 2nd in the league for accurate long balls, behind only Fleetwood. And we're 23rd for possession won in final 3rd per match (so much for the press).
Whats an expected goal?
It’s a pointless stat that’s all the rage nowadays
Charlton took two gambles on Ryan Inniss and Chuks Aneke. If Aneke could manage to be involved 36 matches out of 46 like two seasons ago then magic as he scored a goal every 100 minutes BUT ever since he was thrown in and Played 95 minutes on his first game back from Brum his injuries are getting worse and longer. A decent 12 month contract max and prove you can be available for an extension for Chuks would have had some validity. The crying shame is Aneke could smash League 1 defences even just playing 30 minutes from the bench most weeks.
Ryan Inniss can't play more than 15 League games in a season yet gets another contract 🤦🏻♂️
I know the coaches who have mentored Deji since he was 8 years old and they are surprised how he isn't good enough for Cafc squad in League 1? Professional coaches, not dad's helping out!
Reality has kicked in for Thomas Sandgaard since the hyperbolic 5 year ambitions and blowing teams out of the water: it achieved the aims of selling a shed load of season tickets 14 months ago but the Charlton fan base is battered from the last decade (longer for most) and now are cynical as they see injury prone player's injured and despite a young manager with a plan, not enough players in vital positions to carry it out over the long hard grind of 46 matches.

It's not a pointless stat. It sounds like a pointless stat because of its name but it's a good way of identifying the quality of chances created, and with that the quality of your players in front of goal. It can also let you know if you're creating chances and just not taking them or if you're actually rubbish. Is the problem your strikers or is it your entire build-up? It provides you with more detail about your chances than just on/off target; did you have 10 shots on target but they were all 60 yard dribblers that the keeper stopped with a toe? Did you have 8 shots off target that were from a yard out and somehow put over the bar? Is your striker missing golden opportunities or are the chances he's being supplied with incredibly difficult for a player to convert? Looking at a striker who scored 20 goals last season but not sure if he'll do it for your team? Look at his xG; if it's 19.99 it might indicate that he was having almost unmissable chances created for him by his teammates, so maybe he's not so much a brilliant striker as playing in a brilliantly creative team. All useful information that can be gleaned from xG. It's not the be all and end all but it's certainly not pointless

But I think prioritising a centre half, as BG has said, is the best thing to do.
Don't know if he still is.
But a centre back has to be a priority*
* in case anyone doesn't get it saying we need a centre back as a priority is a mild leg pull of those repeating ad nauseum that we need a striker.
Of course another striker would be great, as would another defender. Everyone can see that, no one is saying it isn't.
Just some of us are phlegmatic about these things and others are less so.

realistic, affordable and suited to our playing style. Name please.
Will send an urgent email to the club in case it hasn’t occurred to them.

The above isn't a rumour.
