So if was to be Payne, what are your views on him Sage. Do you know much about him?
  • Without any knowledge I’m just guessing if we do it’ll be another complete surprise and not Payne or anyone else mentioned.
Scrap that, it’s clearly Payne, seen articles from local press etc on Twitter saying he’s about to sign for a league one club.  It’s gotta be.

Gilbey signing a new 3 year deal... B)
  • This will be good for the “where are the goals coming from” mob, 13 last season 👏🏻

Are you happy with him as a player?

We shouldn't be excited we are just making a signing.
  • It’d be good if Payne & McKirdy were on their way to have their medicals together

    But they're not!

Cawley tweets this after reading Charlton life  😁
  • Payne it is, love that we are signing players that a few clubs want, McGrandles was another.
  • Never seen him play.  Hope he is decent and good luck to him if he signs.  We certainly need more midfield goals.

Not related to Payne himself and purely an observation but if he signs we will have taken 3 players from Swindon..

None of them finished in the top 4 of the Swindon Player of the Year award last season (Mckirdy, Reed, Iandolo, Williams) and Swindon were knocked out of the play offs.

I hope they are all strong L1 players and we storm the league.

In L2 to add a cautionary note, though he has had decent seasons in L1 as well.

If he's having a fitness test today... good luck with that fella! 🥵 May not be coming after all.

I'm sure I recall Swindon fans saying Payne was way too good for L2, or words to that effect, on that forum posted to the Garner thread.

Mind you, Sunderland fans claimed Dobson was a disaster of a player who looked like a dog chasing a balloon, so can't read too much into differing fans opinions.

Of course, I guess if he had scored 13 in our league last season he’d be championship bound.
  • A mate of mind is a big Southend fan where Payne came through, and has followed his career fairly closely since he left them.
'Good player but teams always find it difficult to slot him in the side, potential to be a bit of a luxury player but use him correctly and he'll do well for you'

    Poor man’s Oztumer.

How does one fit him and Fraser into the same team ?
  • From the local Swindon paper about Payne “ And despite enduring a lengthy spell out injured last term…”

    will fit right in!

Easy, put one of them on the subs bench and bring on as one of the five.
  • Looks good in that video…they always do.
I was impressed by some quick positive decision making, his speed of reaction and his waspishness.
He also looks to keep his shots down, unlike Albie.

Hadn't he been in Swindon's pre-season? Seem to remember people spotting him in their photos/videos
