THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
Today I hit my 69th birthday, but far, far more importantly than that....we've raised £600 (or 400% of the £150 target) for Bowel Cancer UK.
This has surpassed my wildest expectations and YOU have all contributed to saving someone's life, and, that person's family from grief!! This IS the best birthday present I have ever had in my 69 yrs.
The generosity of Charlton fans knows no bounds! Whatever your faith, religion or otherwise, in the words of the late, great Dave Allen "May your God go with you"
    Cheers

Belated happy birthday, you don’t look a day over 68. Seriously, well done, to you and all the donors, on exceeding your target.

Hi all, had a more in depth bone scan last week and spoke to my Consultant yesterday, he said that I do not have Bone Cancer and that the original scan showed a dark shadow which they thought/assumed was cancer, Great news, although i still have Prostate Cancer, and they are now telling me that if the Medication I am currently taking, which has taken my PSA level, which should be in the range of 0 to 4, it was 39, down to 3.9. In 6 months I will be having Radiotherapy for 6 weeks, 5 days a week, and potentially, could be Cancer Free at some time in the future, how quickly things can change, still just taking 1 day at a time though, thanks for all your support.

@RedJohn, great news re the bone cancer. On the radiotherapy front, when I had my prostate cancer 11 years ago, there was a new treatment being refined in the Czech Republic, using a proton beam aimed at a tiny piece of gold they place in the prostate; it was looking like being a lot more successful and far less invasive than traditional radiotherapy. You might want to talk to your specialist about it.

What have you been doing with your elbows @Redmidland?  If you are doing pull ups to get fit, like the team out in Slovenia - please stop or we will have to send you to St George's...

    Wishing you well. <3

Thanks for your kind message, had an update last week where I was told that I did have Bone Cancer from the same Consultant and likely to live 3/4 years, same as before, have rang the Hospital and their records state that the Bone Scan stated - none detected, very confusing, arranging another appointment with a different Consultant, feeling OK, will update when I can.

@RedJohn - how confusing!  I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's just an IT problem which means the all clear info had not made its way to your notes as seen by the other doctor,  Fingers crossed for you.

the Lass was seen at the Southampton cancer unit last night. They intend using a newish treatment that while it won't cure her it should give her more time.
Thank you to those who have given their good wishes they do help us both. If she is well enough we intend making one of the away games nearer to us like Exeter, Bristol or Reading, might see you there
@lancashire lad - I hope your wife's new treatment is underway and is being successful.  Best wishes to you both, and I hope you enjoy your awayday at Exeter or Reading.

I've just had an update....seeing my surgeon a week today! Hoping for an operation date now!!
@Redmidland - The nation has done its best for you and all others on NHS waiting lists, so I hope you get a date for your op and no further postponements.  Wishing you the best of luck.

During a recent check up I asked my diabetes nurse to have a look at 2 patches on the top of my head. She said probably nothing to worry about but she arranged an urgent referral to the dermatology clinic at the Queen Elizabeth hospital.

I was amazed to be offered a Sunday appointment the following week. The consultant looked at the 2 patches and told me that one could be removed and that the other required 2 biopsies. I assumed I would need another appointment but no. A surgeon was on duty and I should wait outside.

5 minutes later the surgeon is at work and a rough patch of skin is sliced off. She then did the biopsies on the other patch.

The results came through in 10 days and I returned to the QE Hospital to be seen by 2 consultants who explained that the patch is pre cancerous and is only in the top level of skin. It needs to be cut out but i have a patch of red skin beside it which needs checked and may need to be removed. I've been referred to Guy's where they have a machine to check the red skin and to the skin removed as necessary.

This shows that the NHS is working well in my area.

Very pleased for you Malc, 8 hours? - easy just lie back and think of Charlton
The Lass was taken back to hospital yesterday due to a sepsis infection and a lot of pain from the lymphoma, they are getting it all sorted and she should be home in a few days.

That’s an awful situation to be in @RedJohn. Hopefully it’s cleared up soon and the previous diagnosis is the correct one. We’re thinking of you, hang in there.

Amazing! I was called today, having been waiting for any further treatment since my radiotherapy finished on 12th January, my surgery will be taking place on 8th August!
I can now plan, I know I'll be shit scared, but hope I pull through the 8hr operation and can start getting back to full health. I'll not see Charltons first game on TV as I'll be in the intensive care unit, but hope we can win, and that someone might be able to let me know. What a fillip that would be, to hear we've won our first game of the season.

Don't pin your hopes on Charlton winning at Wigan  :)
Anyway, I'm sure you'll be fine, just do the best you can to be positive.
    My very best wishes.

I've come on here this morning, early doors, as I've not been able to sleep very well since Friday.
Sadly the 'euphoria' of my post last week with news of my upcoming operation has been smashed.
I had a chat with my surgeon/consultant Friday morning, he told me my latest scan has shown, where the tumour had shrunk after radiotherapy, last session was 12th January, it has now grown again!
They can't now operate and everything has been cancelled. I was gutted, understatement, even more so when they told me I can't have anymore radiotherapy, but they are looking to put me back on chemo.
Chemo, if you remember, made me very very poorly last September, so much so, that they cancelled it completely. It seems, currently, that this is now my only option. I asked him if my cancer is now incurable, he responded "No, its not" and that Leicester Hospital Trust, will do all they can to help me beat this.
I'm sure you can imagine how I now feel, in fact my MH has gone severely backwards.
I am waiting for an appointment with the oncologist, which hopefully will be this week. I've been told I can sit and discuss all options with them, as they are fully aware how poorly I was last September.
I just wanted to let you all know that 8th August is no longer happening.
I'm also letting  you know, for now, I'm just taking time out for awhile. I may now try and get to the first game of the season, but need to work out logistics, (I still have Baggy Mcbag Face and a hernia), but if I can make it I'll try as I now have no idea what the future holds. That's of course if I'm not undergoing chemo at that time. I will keep you informed via my good friends @TCE and @DaveStorry.
Sorry to give such bad news, but, I'll still try to fight this as best I can.
I just can't help thinking, if I'd been able to have the surgery just a few weeks ago, whether this would be different now. My last actual cancer treatment was January, has delay caused this, who knows? But I don't blame the NHS, who've been doing all they can.
If I can make it to the first home game, it'll be nice to meet a couple of you for a pint, but if not my goal is still to get to The Valley this season.
    Cheers all
    Malc
