Good evening guys/gals. Had a very rough few days, both physically and mentally. I'm still in hospital with no date to go home as yet. Biopsy confirmed cancer was told this morning, stoma fitted - hate it - but it's a means to an end, don't think I'll be down The Valley for a few months yet unfortunately. I know Ray has been keeping you updated, but I just wanted to say thanks to you all for your best wishes. Trying my best to fight back and hope to back down SE7 in the not too distant future. Chemo and radiotherapy start in a couple of weeks, I have a battle to win. Cheers Malc x

Well as I'm in good company, I'll declare that after the PSA blood test at The Valley on February 11th, I got a red text the following day. Hmm, I wasn't expecting that. Long story short, after months of tests, scans, biopsies, I had a prostatectomy last Thursday 6th July. Just recovering now and hoping to be fit for the start of the season. Hopefully it hasn't spread and early indicators are it hasn't, will find out more in the coming weeks/months. I've had a better 5 months.

Good luck @Redmidland . As you know I feel your pain . I’m home after having two months in hospital in April and May and I’ve had my pancreas, spleen, a kidney , part of my diaphragm and my large intestine mostly removed thanks to this awful disease and I’m in recovery at home . I’ve lost 7 stone but I’m gradually putting weight back on , a pound or two a week.
I’ve had a Stoma fitted and while it can be a bit of a pain , you’ll soon get used to it . The worst part is that it’s farts indiscriminately at the most embarrassing moments and there’s nothing you can do about it .!
Apparently they can sometimes be reversed but there is no way I’m ever having surgery again as I don’t think my body could take it .
I hope everything goes well . I couldn’t have chemo as it has no affect on Sarcoma cancers but the last scan was clear and I hope to be at The Valley for the Orient game and hopefully back to work later in the year .
To @Redmidland, @Covered End, @Bedsaddick my very best wishes in meeting your respective challenges. Nothing but admiration for the way that you have met those to date. Not forgetting either our friend @JohnfromNorfolk and his family at this horrible time for them. Cancer is truly awful.
@Redmidland I remember it was my early days on here when you were going through your heart stuff. It was so great reading how you overcame that. I have no doubt we'll do the same for this.

Great to hear from you Beds, been thinking of you and your progress. Can only imagine what you’ve been through, you’re an absolute warrior to go through all that. Small improvements one day at a time, hope you’re at the Orient game.

The support shown on here to fellow lifers and Charlton fans is very moving and humbling. When times are shitty (which, let's face it, they often are at Charlton) it is the humanity, humour and steadfastness of the fans which reminds me why I love this club. We've got some bell-ends of course, but the vast majority are such good people.
A lovely female nurse at the Marsden, Sutton back in October 2019 when I was having 20 days of radiation said it was a "cancer Journey" and it can be quite individual ! So true. Despite it being life changing it's a big relief when the cancer has been Zapped. Despite being Agnostic/Atheist I did take on loan a guardian angel who did a great job before going back to a Premier cloud. My Conor Gallagher, Guardian angel rather than ? A Penney for your thoughts.
To everyone who is going through Big C or little c, whether it effects many organs like @Bedsaddick or a localized cancer for @Covered End it's your cancer Journey and it's a challenge to body and mind. May you find inner strength and battle on to the best recovery you can have with support from family, friends and health professionals.
I read through this and am overwhelmed by the courage and spirit of Addicks going through so much. Puts a lot of other stuff in perspective. Heartfelt best wishes to all of you. xxx
